Is there any need for a support player?

A bit of background first.

I backed the game in 2014, played until 2015-2016 (ish) when I decided it was time for a break. It lasted until just recently.

Since I sat myself down in the commander's seat again I have been quite busy with catching up with all this newfangled stuff like guardians, engineers and getting my puny fleet in order.

The thing is, I did all this engineer unlocking and material collecting on my own since I did not see any point in doing it in a wing or squadron. But I am a social player at heart, and in previous MMOs I have always gravitated to a support role (healing, buffing and whatnot). So if I am going to be of any use to a squadron, the support role must be a viable slot to fill.

So I guess that is my question - is the supportive wingmember a viable asset in the game right now, or am I better off on my own?

Yes I'd say a supportive wing member is useful. You could:
  • buff wing member shields with beam lasers with regeneration sequence special effect
  • repair wing member hull damage with repair limpets
  • in anti-xeno fights: clean caustic goo from wing members' ships with decontamination limpets

Or join the Fuel Rats and rescue players who ran out of fuel anywhere in the galaxy.
Or join the Hull Seals and repair critical hull damage of players anywhere in the galaxy.
Or join Operation Ida to repair stations damaged by Thargoid attacks.

That's what I can think of. Other forum dwellers probably know even more useful.support roles. Let's hope they join in.

Well I would normally leap in and plug our little player group and Faction, After Earth Stellar Alliance (there I did it). But actually @Krieger is right, those player groups would be perfect for you I think.

After my morning coffee I realised I totally forgot multicrew. You could join other commanders' ships in multicrew and fly their ship launched fighters or operate the turrets on their ships.

Saw this probably too late, sry. CMDR Darkmatter, in case you have not found yourself a home yet - the Alliance Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) is certainly the most friendly Squadron you will find this side of Beagle Point, yet fierce and fearless if we must. We are a somewhat BGS heavy group, which means there is not a day where trading, mission running, handing in bounties and exploration data are not urgently required.

So, if you are looking for a Squadron to reach common objectives with (and we do reach them :) ), then we might sit well with you. Stop by on our Discord and say hello, link is in the signature below.

Fly safe CMDR
