Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The instances of these apparently random and anonymous internet crazies being paraded either on reddit or here whilst all being perfectly plausible, seems to be completely at odds with not only my experience but that of many, many others...YMMV of course...
While I am sure most people you play with Mole are (mostly) reasonable persons, the percentage of people that either post on forums or (snicker) actually play the game is very small.

OTOH, if you look back at some of the kickstarter/reddit/youtube/any article at all about SC from back in 2012-14, the white knights were all out in force. Any critical comment at all was pounced on and burred under screams of "SC will save PC gaming", "hater", "no way it will take 5+ years" etc etc. No one could say anything even remotely pessimistic about SC or its business practices without getting pounced on.

As the years went by, this behaviour became a bit less.. rabid, given all the missed deadlines, but still there.

It's still there, a lot of it transferred over from the old forum to Spectrum...same old white knights, same old trolls, same old arguments. Like Star Citizen development...some things never change :D

Some backers are so defensive they need to immediately jump to CIG's defense over even the smallest potential criticism and the ITS ALPHA card is the easiest card to play. Even when the criticism is being made by a fan and is fair.

Over the years i've seen backers, even big backers, get attacked, insulted, and dismissed for saying they didn't like something or they think CIG should change something.

This is the level of zealotry games sometimes inspire and its dumb as hell. Not just SC/CIG - although it does seem to have a higher share than normal, probably because of all the dreams CIG have sold, and when people feel their dreams are threatened, they tend to get defensive.

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Those are the same entitled little #### who complain they are not Evocati.

CIG ignore them so backers should too, CIG want feedback, if you're good at giving feedback they will make you an Evocati tester.

Just in case you didn't know who he was... as for all the other crazies and mentally unstable trolls who keep attacking journalists or random folk outside Walmart when seen wearing an Elite Dangerous T-shirt...I keep wondering, who are those people...why don't I ever meet them online...why don't I get death threats...why does nobody I've ever played Star Citizen alongside know any of these people?

Yeah, i got who Baior of Red was.

As for not meeting the crazies, its been speculated that the worst of them don't even play SC (and funny when they say things like us FUDsters don't play SC so should be ignored).

My own experience of actual SC players has been highly positive.

I think i related an experience i had in SC where got chatting to a guy who was helping me and i expressed a criticism and he was like fair enough, i don't see it that way, but its ok.

If all backers were like that, instead of rushing to CIG's defense, i don't think we'd have a lot of the issues we have with them and we'd spend less time poking fun at the crazies that we do see.

Unfortunately, many of us skeptics experienced too much of the crazies and it soured our opinion of the community greatly. Especially when the crazies were getting upvoted and cheered on by others on reddit while the mods did nothing about them breaking sub rules, but woe betide a skeptic even slightly breaking the sub rules!

It has resulted in too much poking fun against the community as a whole rather than poking fun at the game. But when the community (as some of us saw it) was supporting such people, it tends to do that.

The best thing i did in relation to this though was asking the /r/sc mods for a permaban. I couldn't resist posting there sometimes, even though i knew what would happen if i didn't praise CR and SC and since i can't post on Spectrum since i never gave CR money, i can't post anywhere the inmates run the madhouse.

This leaves me with the ED forums and refund sub where i can happily talk poopoo about SC and the moderators will deal with anyone who starts throwing insults because i said something nasty about their spaceship game.

Its funny if you dig back on SA to the earliest threads. A lot of people were very optimistic there as well, although there were a few who saw the warning signs early on.

As I recall it was around the time of Beer's email exchange with Sandi that the mass opinion changed from one of hope to skepticism.

I'm relieved that someone noticed....Before he even joined Ci¬G as far as I know :)

CIG seems to have a habit of hiring fans.

Ben Lesnick, Tyler Witkin, and a few others i've heard of.

I'm not sure its the best hiring policy, hiring people who will kiss your rear end no matter what you do.

Although i'm sure CR loves the praise he gets from such people.

EDIT: Can't believe i forgot Mr Smug Face Jared.. he was an uber fan who got hired as well.

Pretty common in startups, actually. Some fan goes all "I want to join the company because I soo believe in what you do and want to make it a success" etc, company hires them as (a) they're cheaper if they are already invested and (b) likely to put in tons of effort and ask little in return.

Last startup I worked at was full of those people. Also last startup will ever work for too.

And their new liaison in the r/sc, Jake something or other, was doing INN streams (back in the Wolf Larsen days) for years prior to getting a paycheck (directly, this time) from CIG.

I'm pretty sure this is true. The last run-in I had over on r/sc was with a backer (who, ironically, was permabanned by the mods) who was trying to get the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to arrest FUDsters who were doing "crimes against video games" or whatever.

LOL, i know exactly who you are talking about. The "crimes against video games" was just classic.

Actually that's one case of a crazy where i pity them, because they clearly have mental issues. I don't quite put them in the same category as the "regular" crazies. I mean, you could probably sit down in a pub with most of the crazies and person to person have a normal talk about Star Citizen without it escalating into insults. They are just victims of the GIFT syndrome. That guy would probably stand up in the middle of the pub demanding someone call the police the moment you said something bad about SC.

He was grade A bananas.

There is, Ben Lesnick was hired by CR before CIG was a thing.

Oh come on, splitting hairs a bit there, but ok, CR and CIG if that suits you better. But actually forget to mention the smug git in my list (just added)... that's how hard i try and erase him from my mind. At least until someone links a CIG video and i'm reminded he exists.

EDIT: Sorry, confused with Jared.
