Air is getting thin for Star Citizen

Back in the days I played more Wing Commander on the PC, than I played Elite on C64. The reason being that I wanted the magic immersion the better 3D CGI gave me. Let's face it. Graphics on the C64 wasn't great. Now I play Elite in VR, and if StarCit supported that I'd surely give it a try. However, it doesn't. Just updated my rig, so to Odyssey, bring it on! :)

I don't care about running around shooting people on a flat screen, but I like shooting up spaceships, looking at stars and planets, and cracking rocks open in VR. If the rumor is true, and the lighting model has been updated all over, I'll happily buy the game. Once it's released. Until then I'll enjoy ED as is. It's still by far the best game I have ever played, even with all the hiccups.

I was also this crazy now roughly a decade ago. You need to feal the pain first, before you can call yourself Read Admiral in CZ.
Harharharhar....:)
I initially bought in at wing commander level...refunded my account in early 2017 before they changed the TOS and shut the door on further refunds....I bought back in late in 2018...basic Cutlass black package for $100 during the free fly sale that year... but before I refunded my original account, I had gifted a few game packages and solo ships to my alt account, which is my current one.

Its based on US mindset more money more hype. There is a space gam ethat wa sdevloped by a single develop although he did go a bit crazy in the process.

Instead Star Citizen seems to be still years away from beta phase. So the modular development of ED seems to be a far better concept than to put everything in at Game Launch like they try it in Star Citizen since almost a decade..

Curious... any updates on this comment now that ED is playing with the "big boys" such as Star Citizen?

Fascinating watching the WAVE of ED CMDRs ... flowing into SC with "first impression" channels now dedicated to Star Citizen and being blown away from the experience and immersion.

A good and fair experience in the series from this ED CMDR journalizing their experience for the first time.

After the latest redesign of the Cutlass 'Black', it is arguably the best bang for your buck in its class.

Fun watching ED CMDRs buy it and just get overwhelmed with the current immersion.

3.14+ is a game changing update. Updates are now becoming force multipliers gaining in momentum with each release.

Once Squadron 42 - Episode 1 (Single Player SC version) is released in QTR 4 2022 or QTR 2 2023... that will free hundreds of Devs to focus more on the Persistent Universe. With some luck... Server Meshing is completed QTR 2021.

But everyone in that "other thread" says SC is a scam and there's no gameplay to be found...🤔

"Everyone" being the same handful posting the same thing 100 times a day. 🤭

Well fellows I baked ED 6 or 7 years ago as well as Star Citizen (Rear Admiral).

But if I see now the great improvements in quality of the graphics and gameplay in Odyssey and all of what we already have in Elite Dangerous I fear that I will never put on my Rear Admiral uniform in Star Citizen.

The single player fight mode in Odyssey looks fantastic also compared to those I have seen in Star Cititzen.

And as a half Greek I very much like the name of this new Update ‚ODYSSEY‘! :)
I was waiting for Ulysses to show up as a PowerPlay leader. 🇬🇷

I agree with everything you say.

I love optimism :D

I think D2EA did a survey which indicated a recent increase in people trying out both SC and NMS, take that with a pinch of salt etc. I’m taking a break from games in general, fdev has crossed a line as far as I’m concerned.
Well that Drew Wager got me to buy NMS on my PC, despite owning it on PS4. For me the trick is to treat NMS as a Minecraft replacement rather than an Elite replacement, though I'm hoping some mods can make it a little more Elite-like.

The great irony is that I usually take a break from gaming in the summer, because nice weather is rare where I live, but the failure of Odyssey "forced" me to look for alternatives, and those alternatives (X4 for example) are so addicting that my break from gaming hasn't been that much of a break at all. Maybe I should have bought Odyssey instead so that I can go out and enjoy the summer weather :ROFLMAO:

I've been in both games from start (almost). SC is wonderous and way beyond ED in immersive surroundings.
But..
Pew, pew players from ED might quite like SC pvp, therefore stick around. But explorer types from ED will not fair so well.
I think you could spend lots of time in SC as a pew, pew player, however explorers will spend a month or so and want to move on, or move back.

There is no doubt when first getting into SC there is that awe feeling that you don't get in ED, but it doesn't last that long. The graphics are great, you do feel like you could live in SC, but I think, like I said, if your one for exploring and getting out there and away, it won't keep you for long after that awe feeling wears off.

If a halfway is what your looking for, whereas you can see and walk the interior of your ship etc. Visit huge numbers of planets (endless really) and find lore and alien races and do more or less all you could in ED ie. trade, mine, explore, make alliances or enemies, then Empyrion is probably a good one to go for. But not survival Empyrion, I suggest Empyrion your own way. That means building a ship, equiping it with whatever you need for your journey and exploration and then putting it into survival mode.
So you start more or less with the ship you want... because you built it. Of course you can get ships from the w/s and start that way, if building isn't your thing. But either way it is a great alternative to ED & SC.

Now graphic wise Emp isn't as good as ED or SC, but it's different, so they suit the game. It's not NMS style, but more realistic. I think trying Emp is a great option to get lost in and enjoy, it's a gem of a game that even I have underated before, but grown to love.
