Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Apparently MassivelyOP ends all their SC-related articles with this:

They do it for other dubious Kickstarters as well, like SOTA. It speaks volumes, and I can't wait for those official reviews.

You should remember all those posts/pictures about bugs (what a surprise for an alpha ! ). They are strangely less frequents those days.

Oh I didn’t realise you wanted more :)

There’s always more ;)

Obviously their perpetual nature does mean they get a bit boring. But it’s always interesting when they speak to long-form issues. Here are two from today that speak to the nasty desync seemingly, for example:

Lord knows how a $3000 Javelin would deal with such deprivations. But thankfully it’s nowhere near being a playable item, so we may never know.

But for a novel twist, how about we end with some ED refugees enjoying some choice instabilities? Ones which speak to the joys of glitch deaths combined with imperfect persistence ;)

Imagine a bunch of guys despising a game in development for several years and thousands of posts...

Or, and stick with me here a moment, because it has been explained to you countless times before, we don't despise the game.

Can you please, finally, get that into your head?

We laugh at the game and its development. Some of us despise CIG's lies, business practices, etc.

In such a place, standing on it's own merits is not enough.

Ah, so you're saying the game need to have its defenders, who will valiantly charge forth on their forum steeds to do battle with the forces of E.V.I.L whenever someone says something nasty about the game?

You do know what that is effectively the definition of is right? Its something i try and avoid calling people on forums because often people are just giving their point of view, biased as it may be. But once you cross that line into "i'm going to defend the game no matter what" territory, then someone calling you a white knight is truly deserved.

The game? Nah.

The monetisation, and associated mismanagement and misrepresentation? Yeah maybe ;)
This.

I liked the initial pitch. The one that had me waving my Golden Ticket.

As things progressed and Chris talked more, and as they made a production of what would be rather than what was there - as "yes" seemed to be de rigeur instead of constraining the scope and using excess funds to develop lagniappe post-release, my enthusiasm faded.

I don't hate the game. I hope those initial boxes (see the Kickstarter pitch for clues - how is that partnership with Oculus going, btw?) are checked and I can happily play again. But the monetisation, delays, style over substance and mismanagement - combined with a (vocal) community conditioned to defend the most basic achievements in a mounting pile of unachievable things, and the ARG of ship sales and public fumbles while absolutely nothing happens on the development side - that all combines as to why I may be less-than-credulous about the direction and possible completion of this project.

tl;dr Star Citizen has a rich history full of contrasts.

That is pure semantics. When someone says "it is weird to obsessively despise a game for years and years and post hundreds if not thousands of posts about it on multiple forums" it is silly to respond "No no, I merely obsessively despise those making the game for years and years and post hundreds if not thousands of posts about it on multiple forums, including looking for weird twitter or reddit posts by Star Citizen players so I can mock and ridicule them. But the game itself, nah, I dont despise that."

You can do all those things, and I suppose it is harmless in the end. But he has a point that it is weird obsessive behavior. To be clear, I am not saying this in general terms about everyone who posts about SC, nor am I 'defending' whatever it is SC pretends to be. I am specifically talking about you here. :)

'you' don't despise the game but not 'we'. Some here despise it. Saying it countless times doesn't change this fact.

"i'm going to defend the game no matter what" territory, then someone calling you a white knight is truly deserved.
I defend the game but not at a 'no matter what' level. I try to be honest.
It absolutly doesn't matter to me if someone call me a white knight. For haters, every positive guy is a white knight. For cultists, every negative guy is a hater.

If you fail to comprehend the difference then that's on you and people like LA.

For example, a lot of people dislike Elon Musk but love his cars. Or people who dislike Jeff Bezos but still use Amazon.

Think about it. Its quite possible for someone to hold different opinions between a product and the person who produces the product.

But he has a point that it is weird obsessive behavior.

Just like his obsessive defense of the game? Perhaps. But at least we get lots of laughs along the way. ;)

I think i'm fine saying "we" in general, although there might be some here who despise the game. I can't think of any off the top of my head who've said they despise the game though. Look at the other replies you've got, people agreeing, saying its not the game that is the issue (in terms of despising.. the game has different issues).

I defend the game but not at a 'no matter what' level. I try to be honest. It absolutly doesn't matter to me if someone call me a white knight. For haters, every positive guy is a white knight. For cultists, every negative guy is a hater.

Then maybe chill a bit a don't go charging to CIG's defense when someone pokes fun at the game?

I mean, in this thread, that must be a full time job! :D Is that why you took a break for a while? You needed a holiday from defending the game?

Something else for you to ponder LA.

Pay attention to the mood here when someone isn't defending the game.

People like Mole and others post about their good experiences and what they are doing while we FUDsters post our jokes and memes, and everything is fine and dandy.

Then you or someone else comes charging in to defend CIG and then we get another page or two of arguments about people being haters and cultists.

Worth thinking about?

This place can actually be a very nice place for people to discuss SC if the knights can check their shining armour at the door.

You're saying we should post more?
If it please you, don't restrain yourself. The alpha has bugs, it's just the reality.
But when someone here post only bugs and negative facts about SC, it just shows new comers how 'balanced' the opinions are here.
Now that a lot of ED players know that SC can be enjoyable after watching some ED streamers, they have some tools to judge some recurrent sentences you find here like 'SC has no gameplay' or 'you only buy jpg'.

Believe it or not, but if you'd pay $10 to get access to a locked forum where you can craptalk Elon Musk day after day, year after year, and ridicule people who drive his cars because of random things they tweet, you'd still be weird. Regardless of what you think of the cars. What LA points out is that its weird to be so obsessively posting about something you hate, year after year, day after day. Its weird to do so about Elon Musk, CIG, cars, fruits, doorknobs, whatever.

About doorknobs? Yes.

About the livewire CEO who has his fingers in everything from space travel to green transport revolutions to bitcoin market crashes to insulting cave-diving child-rescuers? Nah man, there's never a dull day there. It's a drama for the ages, with real world repercussions, and a guarantee of colourful incidents. It wouldn't be that odd to keep close tabs on that world. Especially given the baseline of odd the internet generally runs at. (If you've got a down-payment on a Cybertruck, it'd be doubly explicable...)

Space games are a tiny corner of the world. And Chris Roberts is its Musk. It's kinda that simple...

(Just minus the space travel, green technology, and incredibly ill-advised use of Twitter ;))

And as i just pointed out to you, we had several pages of nice positive discussions between players without any arguments until you came charging in because someone dared to say something negative about SC! And go check the "likes" on those posts. How many of us skeptics were liking the posts.

I think you'll find this thread can be a very balanced place, with both positive and negative posts.

Again, think about it. Who is actually provoking the majority of negative comments around here?

I can do that on reddit for free!

that its weird to be so obsessively posting about something you hate

And there we go again. If you can't distinguish between hate and other feelings and motivations, i can't help you.
