State of the Game

Well, one of side effect of overcoming the irrational and exaggerated emotional responses to negative "baits" is diminished joy coming from positive ones.
I may have forgotten to mention that, as this is bad for marketing ;)
Actually this is not true, although it should be.

I just realized this by recalling how many times I have laughed reading this thread, and amount of joy and delight I have experienced there,
and honestly - I can't call it neither reasonable nor well grounded outcome.

It's absolute lunacy, is what it is! ;)
Yeah, but a positive one.
Looks like this filter evolves with time, I used to be pretty indifferent to input when I first injected this "input data normalization" by DIY debugging & reprogramming.
Now I see I have fun from trivialities but negative content is scaled down properly.

PS. I think an IT-based perception and comprehension of processes in human mind is absolutely superior to psychological semantics.
At least when I read original psychological content, I have impression like I read a poet trying to reverse engineer how some complicated IT system works - he just doesn't have mental tools to understand what is REALLY going on lower levels, he just sees flashing buttons, windows and other superficial layers/products of code, but not the code itself.

Can I just take this moment to be inexcusably off topic and serious, though? (Why'm I asking? I'm gonna do so anyhoo):

I just love this thread. Not only have I met a whole bunch of new friends, I've also learned a lot about y'all and, as it turns out, y'all are a lot more like me than you'd probably like to admit. I know I wouldn't. :)
Somewhat belatedly I just wanted to chime in and add my vote for this.

Not only is this corner of the forum my favourite part of the forum by a long way, I'd go so far as to say that it is my most visited part of the internet by a signficant margin, surpassing MyFavouriteCatMeme.purr... and possibly even kale.crunch.

Blam!

Same here mate. Honestly I've lost count - some of the posts are brilliant and have me laughing to the extent that Mrs PiLhEaD has given up asking 'what?'... ....although I've not seen her since she went to see her mother sometime last week... hmmm.... no wonder I'm hungry! Hungry for PIE!!!!!!

so no updates about when we'll be able to fly our own hand-crafted dredgers and all. It's been days since the community as a whole asked Fdev for a roadmap of when this integral feature would be added to odyssey and make it finally playable.

Silence. Does fdev even care about this game anymore? why even pretend?

FTFY.

Buy an Idris!

star citizen has 55 unique (non variant) flyable ships and vehicles. Can you guess how many elite dangerous has? (hint, it's way less than 55)

I'm not one to defend star citizen, but the whole ships being vapor thing is showing it's age.

make fun of them for all of the other idiotic feature creep issues it has, but when it comes to creating assets, star citizen creates assets. Maybe assets that will never be married to a decent full game, but lots and lots of assets.

it's hard to throw stones when your own house is busy continually renovating itself with glass pieces.

Maybe. Being able to buy them with out of game cash though is a kind of vapor game.

For all it's faults at least ED is classless. If I die horribly to an Elite Cmdr in a Corvette there's no question that what really killed me was his credit card. Some people might long to be a Second-Class Citizen but I'm definitely not one of them.

same difference. whether it's spending money or grinding for a few days.., you would end up in the same boat. but you would be stupid to pay real money for elite credits.

it's not like you get credits (insane amounts) from tests of skill.

in elite, you're not being outplayed by a better player any more likely than in star citizen. just replace rich players with exploit happy. whether that's thru poor game mechanics allowing unbalanced gameplay or multiple accounts or just plain cheating.

It's not quite that. Difficult to put finger on maybe but a game is a game the store a distraction?

Like, if I want a ship that's going to cost 100 tons worth Void Opals.
All the while I'm mining them, in the back of my mind is a voice, "Why bother. All you need is $20, shiny things await!" ..
"Hang on, I thought I needed 100 tons, mass .. of VO's?"
"No."

does that change the game for the person who chooses not to buy their way in any differently than the person in elite who chooses to take advantage of the get rich quick exploit of the month?

don't we constantly say the same thing about players rushing to infinite wealth who then complain about not having anything to do? or that how little it matters to anyone else when those players do those things?
