Zoo planning tools (Part 1): animals by country guide

I'm not sure how Danish people see it, but I think Greenland is sort of like a separate country that makes up part of Denmark (like how Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are separate countries, but within the United Kingdom).

Well it is complicated, and I think a lot of us Danes doesn't completely get it either, but they are a self-governing country within the Danish Kingdom.

When it comes to nature and wildlife, which is the only thing that really matters here, not so much politics - No Danish person would consider the wildlife on Greenland as part of the Danish nature. I am pretty sure the people on Greenland feel the same about our wildlife. So to consider polar bears and reindeers as native to Denmark is just odd.
Also the Zoopedia in game consider Greenland as it own country so there really isn't any reason to merge Greenland with Denmark.
The Zoopedia wrongfully mention Denmark under the countries for the reindeer. With the polar bear this mistake didn't happen.

Also what is your source for Flamingoes in Denmark? There isn't any breeding pairs here. Often the bar for if an animal truly belongs to a region is set by if they will breed there or not. If not they are more often seen as visiting guests.
But I can't even find any sources for rare sightings of flamingos here, so I am curious to why you added it to Denmark?

I managed to find the IUCN page myself now. If I were you I would only put the countries which are found under 'Extant (breeding)' and 'Extant (resident)'

I think the rest might be a bit too far fetched. I imagine with several of these countries it is about rare occasions where a flamingo have gotten lost doing flight or something.

But it is of course up to you, where you set the bar. You must have put a lot of work into this, so it is understandable if you don't want to change your criterias too much now.

Don't know if others mentioned it already, but forests in the Netherlands are swarmed with scarab beetles, so they can be in the list as well.

The thing with migrating burds is that it takes just a few birds to go over a country for them to count as native, hence making migrating birds distribution much larger and flexible than terrestrial animals and non-migratory birds.

 

[Planet zoo ‘The Netherlands’]

Netherlands has greater flamingos. In the winter they live near spijkernisse and during summer on the German boarder.
They are a small group but they live in the wild. There are definitely more flamingos than timber wolfs in the Netherlands

As far as I can tell, African penguins are not found in Mozambique. The easternmost part of their range is the Wild Coast, in South Africa proper. I might be wrong though, so feel free to correct me!

I'd move jaguars to regionally extinct in the USA. They very occasionally cross the border into Texas or Arizona, but have yet to re-establish permanent populations beyond northern Mexico.
