Development Update 2 - July

Okay, I'm tentatively excited!

Also super glad I finished unlocking engineers. If the Colonia engineer offering night vision/audio masking is easy to unlock, I wonder how many people will make the trek?

The improvements to the planet tech are good. The same goes for the larger module storage and the increased number of bookmarks.
But ... AMD's FSR doesn't do me any good and, in my opinio, it's the wrong approach to fixing the performance issues. Even with the current down sampling technology rendering in 1080p (I'm playing on a 4k screen) there are still settlements and lounges where I barely manage to get 60 FPS on the "Low" preset (with AMD's CAS disabled) on a 2080TI. Other places run at 98 FPS (monitor's frequency with G-Sync) with the graphics card almost falling asleep. At some point I might test what frame rates I get without capping it with G-Sync. Nvidia's DLSS wouldn't help with this either.
I'll give it a test, when the update was deployed, but I suspect, you're not done yet. I do hope you are though.

Air Defence Turrets in Conflict Zones
We recognise that further balancing is required between on foot commanders and ships entering Conflict Zones. As such, further defence turrets will be added to Conflict Zones with associated on foot gameplay.

Please add a spawn NPC ships when there are players with ships above a settlement. Because it's more fun to do ship combat above the planet surface.

Mission Feature Extensions
We will be expanding mission features for Odyssey with the aim to increase mission diversity and also create stronger links between the in-cockpit and on foot game.

Good, need a lot more variety with the on foot missions, different random stuff that people can find and occur while exploring.

Any ETA for the new Thargoid stuff?

What about mini-games and drinks in the concourse?

At this point, not even the fix for Megaship Piracy (broken since April 2020) would bring me back to the game, not when MFS launches tomorrow on Xbox Series consoles.
Yeah, nothing is enticing me to spend $40 on Odyssey either. That said, I appreciate any and all fixes, balance passes, and graphical improvements that Frontier makes, because someday I will be back.

Enjoy MSFS, it's pretty amazing!

Listed fixes and future additions look good. Hopefully performance improvements and new settings will allow me to raise my planetary graphics settings further.

Right now, the foot engineer unlocks are the most painful part of Odyssey. I basically ignored them since I didn’t want to force myself to grind any one thing. However, even after a lot of “organic” playing, still have 1 Opinion Poll and 0 Settlement Defence Plans. (The weapon and suit upgrades themselves seem more reasonable, but I’m not going for G5.)

Although I'm looking forward to the new features and content ( looking good FDev ), it will be the performance improvements and bug fixes that I'm most eager for. I've rebuilt my PC and upgraded my motherboard recently to an ASUS B560 with an intel i5 11600K processor and some fast Corsair 16GB RAM. I'll have to keep on using my MSI GeForce GTX 970 graphics card for a while though and it tends to struggle with certain parts of Odyssey, even on medium settings. I'm enjoying the expansion for the most part.

Finally! A roadmap that is worthy of the name! This is what I've been desiring to see from FDev. Honestly, it is the first thing that gives me real hope for the future of the franchise. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, of course, so we'll see how that goes. But I am happy to see this roadmap today. Now, it is important that we get similar posts on a frequent basis - i.e., not once a month or when FDev feels like it. Bi-weekly would be perfect.

Good post, FDev!

How little people need to return hope...
Well for myself i can say that i'm not impressed.
Let's start with issue tracker:
Points 1) and 2) are basically "we did... something, but we still don't know we fixed it or not". Why did you state that points from 4 to 7 is fixed then? "Keep it for further feedback and make adjustments if necessary"
Point 3) i heard in update 5 and my game's performance gone worse, so i wouldn't give a penny for that.

Next, from your separation between planetary colour improvements and planetary surface improvements i can make a conclusion that planetary colours would affect non-landable planets. I wish i'm wrong on that case.
Rocket troops are nice though.

And future updates. Mostly of them looks like tweaks than actual updates. More modules to keep in store, is that your idea of update? Really? Remaining ones are too vague to say something at this point.

This post are much better then previous dev update, don't get me wrong, but it still bad. But who knows, mayby this update will be actually worth it. At least for this time i don't expect nothing from frontier.

Lets just hope that all the Fixes and improvements actually work.

Also When is Update 6 coming? Did i miss a date or wasnt it mentioned?
There was a heading in the original post just above the new coloured planets that said "Planned for later this week (Update 6)"

You would think that means update 6 is coming later this week (ie. could be Thursday maintenance window time)

Good DEV post... now it is important that you keep this up every month for the rest of EDs lifetime.

And, also... proof will be in the pudding. :)

This is more than a cracker to a starving man, there are some legitimate sneak peeks in there just as we used to get in the newsletters back before 2016.

Hopefully this kind of info will become more routine with each monthly update and there will actually be things to talk about other than being told what's not coming :)
