Modes Odyssey The Start of a New Mediocre Loop: The New Hotel California.

A question for those who perpetuate the open vs Solo/PG game play threads. Do you think the world revolves around you? If moderators insta-closed these threads, will the forum cease to exist? No, you will leave the forum, others will come. It's time for the moderators to do something that breathes new life into the forum and instantly close these threads.
Oh yes, your egocentrism is more important than mine.

OP,

Although a rebuy is a rebuy no matter what form of demise, the fact of the matter is, is that many Commanders are more deeply affronted by getting blown up by human who roleplays a criminal rather than the truly draconian in-game rules like pad loitering.

Nevertheless, the three modes are here to stay. If FDev actually had a viable Crime and Punishment mechanic in Open, a lot of the current PvE vs PvP salt could have been mitigated

It's funny how it's always those who want to gank and grief who want to take away the alternative play modes.

Personally, I generally play in Open and have one CMDR who I play exclusively in Open. And while I don't think it's anywhere as dangerous as moany seen to think - especially as you can block gankers - and would rather everyone play in Open, I have no desire to take the other modes away from anyone.
I’m pretty much the model of a PvE carebear, who extends his caring to any would-be gankers who are lucky enough to come across the big target on my back whenever I’m in Open. No salt, just laughs all round when I blow up.

But when I’m in Solo it’s not because I’m scared of being blown up (in my pretend spaceship with my 1b+ credits and, on the last ship I flew about in Open a sub-1m rebuy), but because I don’t want to spend my time around other humans. That includes gankers I’ve friend requested, squadron mates in our PG, real life friends and my mam (she’s crap at games anyway).

Wonderful thing about this game isn’t it, choices I mean.

A question for those who are against only open play. Do you think the world revolves around you? If you leave the game, will the game cease to exist? No, you will leave, others will come. It's time for the developers to do something that breathes new life into the game.

Thats two questions, and the answer to both is nope.

Having said that open only won't breath life into the game.

Question back for you. Why do you think others should be forced to share their time and space with you when they are playing Elite Dangerous?

Follow up,

Is time with you so odious that people will not do so voulinteriy?

With Frontier now working on fixing Odyssey I find myself wondering if it will continue Frontier's trend of getting it to work and not evolving the idea into a more flush out system within Elite.
I should have stopped reading here.

What exactly is a "flush out system" in the context of Elite?

Is it Odyssey, with regard to player numbers? 🤷‍♂️

I must have missed all the calls to have Open shut down. Just because your playstyle of choice isn't occupied enough for your tastes is no reason to come unwillingly draft us. We're gonna pass, thanks.
Though if they did ditch the multiplayer elements then maybe some of the compromises could be removed, so we could get things like modding. Getting rid of open is at least as valid a suggestion as removing solo.

For those complaining about killing open and just leaving solo and private mode, you would be killing off more features than killing open. For example, there would no longer be a need to be community goals. Squadrons would also be gone because why would you need it if you were in a private group and also you wouldn't be interacting with an open player base so nobody is gonna know who you are. Um.. Powerplay would have no consequence and there have been talks within Frontier to move it to open only or so the rumours go and finally how is the storyline going to work? Elite storyline content delivery isn't built for a single-player experience. It's been designed for an MMO with the community working together to solve its mysteries.

On the plus side Fleet, Carriers would be a hell of a lot cheaper with no upkeep cost. You don't have to worry about getting your ship blown up because NPC really doesn't provide any threat that isn't a Thargoid. Painte mining might end up becoming a goldmine again so you can make your billions.

I'm just a little surprised how you make fun of the idea of scrapping open and private modes yet you don't seem to have an actual argument on why they should stay. Telling me to go play other games is fine but really if you cant provide a valid reason for yourself to keep these modes instead of quoting David Braben just proves a point on why they should be gone.

A pure PVP game would require a fundamental redesign. You would need to build a version of Star Citizen that isn’t just a hacked together CryEngine mod - it would need functioning netcode.

Realistically, you need to choose whether you want a MMO, or twitch-based gameplay. Getting both in the same package is extremely difficult. You then need to design the game around the constraints of what your netcode can do - an obvious step that the geniuses at CIG missed.

Anyone that thinks changing this fundamental element of ED by posting in the forums is delusional. Personally I've been around here 6 years and it hasn't worked thus far. You'd have better luck setting a meeting with Braben himself to discuss this "issue". I suspect you wouldn't get far with the discussion.
The funny thing is, last I checked when logging in, the two Moebius groups still have about 40k people combined. I remember when they had to split, since they reached the physical limits of a PG :D

Makes you wonder if some think PGs are just like 3-4 people poodling together in the galaxy. Also makes you wonder, what their tune would be, if their idea was accepted, and 40k players just vanished over night not playing their game of open only. 🤔
