Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

Anyone willing to record themselves over some B-Roll can put their opinions out there for all to see. The thing is when those opinions become used as some sort of yardstick and some start thinking they "speak for the community" when in reality their opinions are no more or less valid than Frontier Customer #43,488.
By your own admition, many content creators have made cynical videos regarding ED because that's what their public wishes, ergo, if they make cynical videos, it's because it resonates with the vox populi, ergo, they do act as a yardstick for the community.

I would much enjoy hearing their theory on why my socks keep disappearing.

No, they act as a yardstick for their audience.

I'm part of the Elite "community" and I don't watch a single one of these plebs.

Except Ant of course, but that should go without saying :p

Their combined audience is a good chunk of the community, OA by himself has ~270,000 subscribers. Before you comment that is not the majority, you don't need to sample the majority of a population to get meaningful information out of it.

And as we know, all subs are active accounts belonging to one person...

I won't bother replying with a GIF. Instead I'll use text and say there is a difference between critising the state of EDO on launch (which we all know was not ready) and the toxic environment they are continuing to nurture with their commentaries.
Yeah, sure. I mean, I had principes too until I learned that youtube pays $0.00069 per stream. So if you can get like 10,000 views per video plus some ad revenue that is almost like doing junior internship! Sweet cash baby!

And the overwhelming majority of them are from Flight Simulator 2020. As he said, ED has become largely unneeded for his YT channel.
The overwhleming majority? What percentage is that? Has he won over 50% of his subscribers in less than a year (2020 Flight Sim was released in August 2020)?

In the past 48 hours he released two videos:
ED: improved planets. 22k views.
FS2020: five things to try. 78k views.

The other ED video got 18k views. His other FS2020 views last week got around 400k views. Again, as he said, ED is a relatively small part of his views. So yeah, since august 2020 he got multiple times more subscriptions than he got from ED the past decade or whatever.

It really adds up nicely to a 78% score more or less. Again, as he said, ED is a relatively small part of his views.
We are talking about subscribers aren't we?

You get paid per view, not per subscriber. Anyway, you clearly struggle with basic facts and statistics because it hurts some emotional opinion you have. You can see people vastly prefer his FS2020 videos. He told you, explicitly. The truth is unambiguous and plain to see. Best of luck with it, if you pray real hard to the Gods Above your favorite streamer will prefer your game again!

Then why did you say the overwhelming majority of his subscribers are from Flight Sim 2020?

What have I said that is factually incorrect? Regarding statistics, I'm studying a math major so chances are I know statistics better than you do, in fact, I doubt you even know what a random variable really is.

Lol, I don't watch any game streamers and barely any game youtubers, projecting much?

Given I finished my PhD focussing on automating assesment of affective experiences using high-resolution physiological measurements I am fairly confident I do know. Which is neither here or there, the topic we are discussing is that ED is a tiny part of Obsidian Ant's portfolio, and you need to come to terms with that. If you somehow want to argue he really has tons of subscribers that dont watch his videos while all the people that watch his videos dont subscribe; lol, whatever. At the end of the day more than 90% of his views are from FS2020, not ED. Deal with it.

Or not. Best of luck with your major.

Ok, hit me.

Tiny is quite an overstatement, regardless, Yamicks is quite focused on ED and has over 100,000 subs with views ranging from the 7,000's to the 100,000's.

Good luck with your academic career (if that's what you have chosen to pursue).

That sounds like a whataboutism...

I did not. If I ever would give anyone any kind of advice: dont. Long hours, crappy pay, endless admin. And if you finish your math degree you should have plenty of excellent escape opportunities. Industry loves math majors who climbed down Mount Olypmus to help the lesser beings with their Excel sheets. :p

I don't think so.

I figured, I've heard of many horror stories and the horrible job market for academics.

Excel is the language of industry, business and government.

Nope, no vitriol from me - and I have absolutely ZERO issue with people playing (and preferring) different games. In what little free time I have, I faff about in Elite (which I come and go in, fully admit to there not being enough in the game to keep me compelled beyond a month or two before I get bored), a few other games (I own SC, NMS, and X4... admit to preferring Elite over them personally) and have a PS4 with a pile of games, many of which I've not had time to play but Jedi Fallen Order and the various Assassins Creed games, more or less anything by Rockstar... all got time when time allows.

All that's neither here nor there, beyond saying I have zero issue with people liking, playing, or preferring other games.

Where it gets shady, and I'm speaking in broad terms, is that anyone with a camera and a microphone can be a content creator. Anyone willing to record themselves over some B-Roll can put their opinions out there for all to see. The thing is when those opinions become used as some sort of yardstick and some start thinking they "speak for the community" when in reality their opinions are no more or less valid than Frontier Customer #43,488. For example, we're conversing in a thread which references a small handful of people who have been critical of the game. Their opinions are somehow more valid to the community than a half dozen people on these forums?

Beyond THAT, it does create an issue when people start doing it for the money. Again, speaking in broad terms, but if people are doing it to put food on the table as you say, then there is going to be a propensity for some of them to sensationalize things above and beyond, pushing the desire for likes, clicks, and sponsorship. Content creation is not some sort of ethical media (which itself is pretty bleedin' unethical in and of itself).

End of the day, its like the people who come in here and announce with a fresh thread that they're quitting the game. Fair enough, but they still hang around constantly complaining, driving what little morale there is into the ground. If a content creator decides they're finished with Elite, and they make a video announcing that, fine. If they still make subsequent videos sticking the boot in.... what's the point, other than clicks?

So i don't mean to cause offense here but I really do think you are judging on contradictory standards here - Like if someone puts out an opinion piece about ED and it is well recieved, you blame the creator - but the very fact it has been viewed a lot shows that the audience is interested in this subject. Because i'm sorry to say this but regardless of your current feeling towards ED - the Odyssey product has been damaging to the brand.

I have not put out the kind of opinion video you mention, though i know a few creators that have personally, and they are not driven by cynical motivation - they are just sharing their opinion.

I personally am just enjoying SC and sharing our adventures at Skunk Works - it is nice that it has been well recieved yes, but i just like telling the stories.

Noone is claiming YT is an ethical medium, only that ANYONE is free to share their opinion. this is not 'dangerous' - this is the very defiantion of free press in action. you are of course free to publish your counterpoints

my point here is that content creators are individuals that, while some will just post video of the game they are enjoying, others will yes will respond to viewer interests with similar content - but there has to be an audience that WANTS to see this stuff for it to take hold. this is where we are right now - with ED in a less than optimal position and speculation will be abound just like it is when ED was riding high and everyone was excited for Odyssey - I don't see a problem with this that you so emphatically state. There is an open platform for people to post their views in support of ED and FDEV - but right now the state of the game is less than optimal

For what it's worth i hope FDev can turn it around and get back on the right track - i'm not sure it could pull me away from SC but competition drives innovation and isvery healthy to have between different products
