Quote snipped for the point I want to make. I do get the sense that Frontier is "throwing us a bone" that they might not have otherwise. For example, why after months (if not years), now Frontier has finally decided to fix megaship looting? Same goes for module storage increase. It feels like Frontier is saying, "Give them something, anything, to calm down the angry crowd. Heck, give them Barabbas if that's what they want!"since FD might have put the same effort into improving Odyssey without all the negativity. We could even speculate
Because...lol, no of course not![]()

And yes, I'm speculating, but I'm also looking for silver linings in a very dark cloud, and if Odyssey being a failure at launch ends up giving us a better product a year from now, then maybe this is actually a good thing.

Their opinions are no better than any player, but they ought to reflect the opinion of their audience if they really are paid shills as some users here claim.OTOH I don't think their opinions or league positions in the game hold any more weight to me personally than anyone else .
No, it's not unanswerable. It doesn't take a lot of grey matter to analyze past experience and ascertain what would have been the likely outcome - unless you'd rather not know.An unanswerable question, and therefore, you supposition about the "sycophants" is silly (especially since no community is full of sycophants, there will always be those who are reasonably critical and those who are unreasonably critical in any community), since FD might have put the same effort into improving Odyssey without all the negativity. We could even speculate that without all the negativity things might have been much further along, as CMs would have had to spend less time sorting out the real issues from all the chaff, the developers might have been more motivated, and management might have been more focused. Pure speculation as well and no foundation to believe that over the opposite either.
As a developer myself, I've never understood that either, but I think you are confusing valid criticism with victory dances. In fact, I've no idea what you're talking about, as it just sounds hysterical. No one has attacked the devs, if anything most people have been quite sympathetic about the situation they've been placed in. People have been critical of the management, because decisions to release an alpha as a fully paid software product was ultimately their responsibility.Personally i've never understood the mentality of people who do victory dances over the devs doing something that in theory they should have done anyway, and trying to take credit for the devs doing it. If you truly believe its only through the efforts of the complainers that the devs fixed the game, walk away from the game right now, because the devs do not deserve your support anyway.
It's their livelihood, so if they're seeing interest wain, then I don't blame them for wanting to diversify. It should be noted that none of them have stopped with Elite content, although I do feel while some have been critical or simply published less Elite content, a few (actually only one that I know of) have actively attacked it, which I don't believe is helpful either, but this is by far a minority.Still, good point about them diversifying. Putting all your eggs in one basket is always a risky move. Reminds me of SaltEMike (Star Citizen streamer) to who someone suggested a year or less ago that perhaps he should "pivot". He said he was too old to pivot. However, in the last few months, he's been playing other games, and while this might cause him to lose some viewers, the hardcore faithful who only watch him for his SC content and consider his playing other games a betrayal, over time, if he is good, he should find his channel growing.

I dont think 'stupid' is the end statement of that, I'd say it sounds more like 'willful ignorance' , not saying I think that, just that that's how I read itAh, so you're calling me stupid.
Got it.
what is great with Katie and her buddies is that they are just trying to have fun and explore the opportunities offered with an open mind independent on what game it actually is. It is quite refreshing to watch their videos. They did as well some great content and had fun even with a still broken EDO, pointed out some of the flaws, but their goal was having fun and showing off what is possible. I agree with your assessment.Just got dragged in here due to a mention...thanks @Bigmaec...I always liked being dragged screaming to the lion pit
I normally don't do the ED or EDO v SC thing at all since I've been a fan, supporter and player of both titles since 2015, my mantra on the matter has always been "It's really OK to like both." as a denizen of the SC sub-forum on here and on Ci¬G's Spectrum... when I'm not banned from there.
I've put 5,500 hours into ED, just slightly less into SC over the years and in all that time the only content creator I've followed was our own Obsidian Ant...he does do a few bits and pieces on SC too. Having been the FDev forums resident SC idiot for a few years now, I rarely found any ED content creator outside of Obsidian Ant who's views on SC were universally respected on t'other side of the divide...so to speak.
Then along came Katie Byrne, another already well respected ED content creator trying her hand at Star Citizen as a player and simply recording her adventures, not reviewing...just playing. I was hooked from the first video as were many veteran SC players, some like me, who play and enjoy both games...some strictly SC players who were drawn in by Katie's infectious enthusiasm.
Content creators do what they do, there are some who've recently switched over from EDO to SC for 'reasons', some seem to have an agenda, some excuse to appear pithy or petulant with regard to EDO or FDev...Katie certainly isn't one of those...I could name the others but that's as equally pithy and childish
@Katie Byrne, carry on doing what you do and I hope I can catch you sometime you're in game, I'm in there every day, usually EU servers ...watching you play was like seeing Star Citizen through more open and less jaded eyes than mine have become over the years. Respect![]()

Sorry I genuinely am not up to speed with most influencers ... But I did see a video of a lass trying mining in SC for the 1st time a week or so ago... No, I didn't. You clearly didn't bother reading after the hyphen.Ah, so you're calling me stupid.

hm, I haven't seen a video from them since them exploring the megacity in SC - been busy playing NMS, when I had the time. I think, Katie wanted to have a go at NMS as well, but I'm not that sure, that this will be a game for her and her buddies - it's less about flying space ships and more about planetary exploration - but we will see, I'm curious what she and her buddies will think about NMS. This said, in my mind it takes about 50hrs of gameplay to have a real impression what NMS is like.Sorry I genuinely am not up to speed with most influencers ... If so it was a v good video and I must say I was watching it with envious eyes wishing ED had mining like that. It was involved and looked fab.
If you wish, but ignoring something I wrote, that was plainly evident to others in this thread kind of supports my point.Ok, let's leave it there.
I've actually a few hundred hours in NMS, and it would be an excellent alternative to ED, were it not that I find it a bit PG...hm, I haven't seen a video from them since them exploring the megacity in SC - been busy playing NMS, when I had the time. both are very different games - after having played it for 150hrs, I think both aren't really comparable - the focus of NMS is that what I'm missing in Elite and that is why I'm playing NMS now and no longer Elite. But is it really a space game?- I use my ship to go to different systems, see what planets are there, and if those are interesting, I plant a base or two on those planets and then I'm mainly on the planet and my ship is a local transport on those planets - I rarely ever do something else in space than flying to the anomaly station or warping to new systems - otherwise the teleporter system is fulfilling most of my transportation needs - so it isn't really a space game imo.If you wish, but ignoring something I wrote, that was plainly evident to others in this thread kind of supports my point.

It should be noted that a lot of those MFS views came from Xbox pilots like me who have been waiting for this sim to land on console for a while (and it was worth the wait). Also, there was a major peformance update for PC as well on the same day as the Xbox release, so regardless of platform, a lot of people are eager to watch QA's MFS content, now and in the future if comments on his videos are any indication. In the past 48 hours he released two videos:
ED: improved planets. 22k views.
FS2020: five things to try. 78k views.
The other ED video got 18k views. His other FS2020 views last week got around 400k views. Again, as he said, ED is a relatively small part of his views. So yeah, since august 2020 he got multiple times more subscriptions than he got from ED the past decade or whatever.
