Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 6

If FSR is enabled, even on ultra, the loss of quality is quite noticeable in VR. And with noticeable I mean not a bit, I mean you cant recognize text anymore at all. Like having to read the last line at the eye doctor without your glasses and 5+ dioptrine. So kind of not aly beneficial - at least in VR.
I tried various options and the best one looked like vaseline smeared all over the optics. Turned it off. We need DLSS added for Nvidia owners (or an upgrade to Vulcan / DX12).
Want to put plug in that VR feels so much smoother *(even without FSR). It is now officially smooth / playable including the worst of settlements and resource zone combat.
Not me for. Was ok up to patch 5 which killed performance, but 6 is better - playable (at least in space and empty planets), but still no better than patch 4. Settlements is still a juddery mess. For me that is, not in general.
Please add back the AMD Fidelity FX CAS thingy, while keeping the new AMD FSR thingy!
I think AMD recommend against that, it's one or t'other.

Cockpit also looks washed out in brightness tho' I did play with the gamma and space looks somewhat better, need to fix that.

I tried that, and then i found that now there is a separate option to enable the context menu on srv and on foot (driving miscellaneous and on foot miscellaneous), enabling that it works like horizons.
However iirc in horizons worked even without the context menu enabled.
Yooouuuu are a star! 😁

I’m giving you an Arnold Rimmer-style salute with both hands ٢o7

This would explain why I haven’t experienced the issue before, while others did - something in Update 6 must’ve changed that new setting. Odd that the default isn’t set to “Enabled” 🤔

So I guess we gonna be stuck now with the "useful" million seconds press and hold to steal things (which is the majority of on foot gameplay as we lack any other types of missions)
until update I guess 7?

Also the "less shy" crew is annoying as hell. The SLF fighter is just constantly talking when you do any type of combat which is more than one ship. It is just non stop bla bla bla

For me a lot got worse after the patch. The graphic can no longer be adjusted in a meaningful way. Either everything looks muddy or I switch to native 4K and the FPS drop even more. I always have bad FPS, regardless of whether I reduce the resolution or quality. To me it feels like a patchwork solution. Approach the right problem and not provide a workaround. Sorry for not seeing any positive things here, but the problems mentioned prevent me from playing longer.

"Right, so you just murdered a dozen civilians for no apparent reason, bringing your total victim count to 521. But do you really want to steal that roll of ductape? That's a crime, you know! Could you ever live with that dark secret?"
And god forbid we do it legally, since Reactivation missions are no longer a thing.

And that is exactly why we need the CAS option back. Because it is designed for that, unlike FSR.

Yeh looking at the amount of people with 1080p screens not happy with FSR it's probably s reasonable request to have the option of FSR or fallback to CAS with manual scaling options. I wonder if it's possible to implement both?

One for @sallymorganmoore

The percentage on enemy shield bar now changes to red and that causes you to squint your eyes constantly to try and see what it says (the FSR is not helping there and yes I know I can turn it off) and then when shields are down the percentage runs again from 0% up also in red until it reaches 35% and becomes blue while the shields are not up yet... so the whole things is even more annoying and cumbersome than ever(the % on POI's, systems, planets and stations is even more useless) It's like again the Devs are doing their part and then no one just try and "play" the game with the new additions to see if they make sense.
Edit for spelling mistakes

Thank you for the cool communication about the update. Like it and you can tell the dev team that they made great progress.
I've got some early feedback regarding performance in VR and the FSR feature. Hope you don't mind sharing it with the devs.

Got a Lonovo Explorer driven by a GTX 1070.

So I had to disable the option and fall back to Normal, since the option in Update 5 is not available anymore. The Update 5 option gave me at least some crisp image which was noticeable sharper than before I ever played. Now with update6 and the normal upscaling quality has decreased and I have the feeling that also FPS have decreased. At least there are also some additional situations where FPS just dropped to single digits which was not the case in update 5. (I was entering the ship in the hangar and then the performance in the cockpit dropped)

So all in all I'd say - sorry, but I'm not impressed. Maybe the devs should have one more look.
By the way as a general feedback: While FSR is sure a nice thing, I think It's a measure of last resort improving the frame rate when everything else has been done which is possible. When I compare the scene/effect complexity of Elite Dangerous and other games I need to recognize that there is quite something possible to being optimized. FSR is just basically getting the performance by not rendering the game at the intended resolution and using advanced upscale technology to hide that.
Hey, try upping the hmd resolution a little from what you have set it to with fsr enabled i can sneek it up at least another 0.2 with no noticeable frame loss. unfortunately flat screen on foot is awful and has been reported as a bug. please if you havent go to the Vr forum/vrspecific issues thread and use the link in the original post to report the bug. (dont forget to click the can reproduce button!) hope this helps!

So in conclusion - the update is welcome as always good job for devs and everyone working on it. Especially the player base which works as QA testers for fdev who also has to pay for those tests. Very nice, thank you all.

So in conclusion... such a long list of fixed bugs and nearly nothing changed. I don´t understand what´s their priority but this update is hot air... nothing else. 😡
