State of the Game

the positive outlook on the patch lasted for roughly the time it took for sally to goto bed. Likely only due to her instant feedback in acknowledging people's reports.

once that stopped, the outlook plummeted faster than odyssey's steam review score.
I think the uptempo mood had more to do with Sally's post earlier on...

"I'm on my knees right now for a lesser bumpy landing, please."

I think people were.... distracted...

mayhaps. though, if the playerbase was full of 14 year olds and not nostalgia addicted old people... i'd think there would be a much stronger push away from getting rewarded for just enduring with no real concern for actually being good at what you're doing. And certainly not such a strong urge to make a change like saving players from themselves when they go click happy on every item they see without paying attention to if it's illegal or not.

There's really very little difference between middle-aged men and 14 year old boys when it comes to pretty* young women.

*no idea what Sally looks like, but judging by the reactions on the forum I'm assuming she has blue hair and wears catsuits 🤷‍♂️

pretty sure this patch is the best indicator yet, that frontier really no longer have control.
The highly addictive game that was ED, is no longer addicting.
and thanks to the non stop bugs that are NOT getting better at being dealt with
The once highly addictive game is no longer even interesting.

Sad as it may be, I think ED is done. There is no 'magic' anymore, now its only...why does this not work, over and over. This is beyond bad.
The ONLY thing happening anymore is all these people that paid to be the beta testers for what was advertised as a completed game, now fill the game and the forums while a very very large number of once addicted players move on having written off 7 years of their lives for nothing more than false promises unfulfilled.
even many of the discords are now NOT talking about ed.
I paid too, but don't touch EDO other than to verify certain things. Because many of us lost ships, tons of rep and tons of credits and many many more things, by playing in EDO for the first 2 weeks. It's only good point in all this time was free ammo. there is no game, there is no balance between what was and EDO, this is being done as it gets reported by the beta players.
new cmdrs will buy an enjoy for what we see so far is a week or 2 before they start complaining and dissing the entire game for lack of content....content they don't know about because they bought EDO, they bought the loop. thinking it was new game play.

I would still be happy to see a rollback, that won't happen, even if it did though, its not good enough. and Farrr to late.
It should have happened on day 1. Any one at frontier that thought this would work, has no clue about programming and merging programs. This I said in many ways when EDO released. Now they know. but they will not remember.
they had horizons to learn from, they repeated it in carriers, proving they did not learn or even remember.
EDO was far riskier because it was merging 2 programs, 1 nearly complete and 1 bare bones unedited. sad really, even MS would never attempt something like this.

this will be remembered. at least by all the people that are familiar with ED, will know to stay away.

understand the anger people have. the game was addictive. addicts get a large range of things to go through as they walk away from what they were addicted to.
now all we have is creamer...not good enough, not addicting, not fun.
its no fun being on either side of an addiction.

I think it was mainly when the novelty wore off.

I do my normal tests with patches and while this one is better performance wise, its still a total dogs breakfast.

I turned it off when I realised that the main performance improvements have been obtained by implementing FSR (which wasn't even done properly for VR). It's obvious that nothing has been done for fundamental issues. Colours are still screwed for one.
Its a step, a small one in the right direction though. I just wish the fps was actually consistent though. It varies so wildly its painful still.

As an example, concourses are fine now, until I go into the hangar and look at my ship which tanks the fps, then I walk back, and the fps is lower. Then I get in my ship, and the text is garbled, or bases on foot when certain places are 10 fps while others 30 or more.

I can't honestly see this working on consoles like the PS4 ever, after six updates the performance gains have been so small its crazy.

I was surprised that they really added something to the planet surfaces, little patches of color that you can see when you come closer and you think there is a structure but it is a small mountain with canyons and stripes of different colors. It was enough to undust my Anaconda to make a quick 2000ly round trip to look at things. With exploration there are no big issues with FPS.
And now back to the topic:

I agree. I think a huge proportion of the forumites have a crush on Sally!

well, her words are kinda mesmerizing, I give you that.
I think it is Sally's upbeat presentation more than anything else - judge for yourselves if she is particularly stunningly attractive ;)

... and possibly that she is seen to act on requests as much as she can in getting QoL fixes sorted!
