GALNET - 30 JUL 3307 - Rebellion Spreads Across Federal Systems

New Kuwembaa Labour, which controls five systems, has triggered a second wave of secession by severing ties with the Federation.

Following the victory of the Azaladshu Free, a minority of Federal factions are breaking away from the superpower in protest against its civil surveillance laws.

Governor Sonal Mishra of New Kuwembaa Labour made this statement:

“The Federal government has granted itself draconian powers to spy on its own citizens. Regrettably, the only way to avoid this is to withdraw from the Federal Accord. I urge the president to respect our wishes and accept our sovereign status.”

In response, President Zachary Hudson ordered Governor Mishra to abide by constitutional law or face the consequences. He has also redirected the Fortress Liberty megaship to the Kuwembaa system.

Political commentators believe that three other democratic Federal factions are ready to follow the example of New Kuwembaa Labour. If this occurs, up to 28 further systems could become independent as a result.

There are also reports that influential leaders within the Coalition of Uteran and Gluscap Labour, which both recently seceded, have expressed regret about leaving the Federation. The congressmen who previously represented them believe that these factions could be swayed to return.

The more, the merrier 😁

And Hudson seems to have officially lost it and is going fullout dictator...

Oh, please do... Nobody really loses if the Federation falls apart :sneaky:

That change of heart comes a bit too fast to feel organical IMO...

I assume this is Frontier trying to stir up support for the Federal side, not that they could think of any actual reasons that might make it more appealing to the community right now.

Maybe this CG will allow us to undo the damage done by Hudson supporters and KWS enthusiasts.

Well of course they do, swimming alone at sea is not the kind of freedom people actually want - they'd rather follow the school into the net.

Megaship liberty again ?

They should rename that megaship into "mobile oppression palace", that would be a lot more appropriate.

I mean, they could have Hudson step down and Winters take his place. A lot of people like Winters, so it's possible for her to fix this.

It's odd that they're having these take place in isolation.

Historically, people haven't particularly loved the feds, just liked them better than the Empire. But without the Empire there for contrast, it seems pretty straightforward that people are going to pick independence.

What they really should do is have the Empire swing in and start gobbling up the lost systems. Or someone like Archon Delaine. That'll give people some context.

Why do we even need to discuss anyone else? The Empire is clearly the best option for these people.

True, but unfortunately they've not been presented the option!

Say, has anyone tried taking over the systems in powerplay/bgs?
I imagine Kuwemba itself will have restrictions in place to prevent the CG being affected, as well as the closest Fed faction being tied up in another war anyway. But it's not inconcievable that a motivated group of Federal players could go after another system, say Navas for example, and flip it before the CG concludes.

I don't expect that to happen, though. I think a lot of dedicated Fed players are probably a bit disillusioned with this recent arc, and probably not going to be motivated to try it. The casual playerbase that supports the Federation because Federation probably won't be organised enough for that either.

If anyone is thinking of that though, be the change you want to see or whatever. All engagement with the storyline outside of Frontier's rigid boundaries is good, present them the opportunities that they can use to improve.

Or just wait and let this happen because you're fighting on the wrong side and god damnit why did you have to win that first surveillance CG.

Who is to say NKL aren't already planning something like that. I doubt it has anything to do with true freedoms but rather ideological alignments. Offer “freedom” to get independence then align with a like minded group intent on creating probably a much more controlled society.

You know, some of those 28 systems (HIP 46179 for example) have Empire factions. Why not make it happen? Same goes to the Feds as in my previous post.

Or Fdev could introduce a new shiny to force the outcome.....

They didn't for Jupiter round 2, so unless they've learnt that running the same CG again tends to lead to the same results, I doubt there will be any modules on offer.
