it is! i'd like to be floating too if FPS allowed me to do so!That's just the onionhead...
At least I'm enjoying myself, that is all that really matters, isn't it?
Even the plant is floating of joy

That's just "it can be done" silliness though. Can FD pull it off to the point where we don't notice it anymore? I don't know, I'm not a programmer, but this whole "it can't be done" silliness I just can't get on board with.
Only 'noise' can throw up unique things, that's the only part of the programming that is of interest to an explorer like me. For example i couldn't care less if i found the largest version of 'hand-crafted Mountain A' somewhere, knowing that same mountain was all over the galaxy just in different sizes and rotations. Your second point is obvious, sure nothing is unique at a molecular level in the universe, but the smaller the particles the more unique whatever the larger whole they are representing is. Obviously Elite's programmers aren't going to reach that level of tinyness with their hand-crafted assets, and therein lies the problem. The planets should be made up entirely by 'noise' imo, that the hand-crafted stuff is there at all is something i really dislike. The tiling issue can be fixed. All it needs is more tiles, more noise and more resizing/rotation so it's not noticeable. If you break it down, everything is "tiled" as in "made up of tiny replicating pixels or bits that you cannot reduce any further". Nothing in this universe is truly unique.
Still far from what they showed to us, but it's getting better and better.I didn’t partake in the Alpha’s, but I did frequently check out the threads on the forums when that was active.
After patch 4 I purchased Odyssey for my PC Elite.
My biggest issue with the planetary tech post patch 6, from a personal perspective, are the repeated single huge craters, which is simply one asset.
I see it on so many planets, that I’m now fed up with it.
I do find the tech an overall improvement and I am not suffering the same issues some of you have experienced and reported here.
Here’s a few recent good examples:

Obsidian Ant discussed that in his latest video.

Yep. Neither has D2EA. Or any of the ones that started covering other games that was seen as the end of all things as we know it.So OBANT hasn’t left - I knew it !!
I don't think a lot of people truly did. Most people are in the "wait and hope it improves camp".Yep. Neither has D2EA. Or any of the ones that started covering other games that was seen as the end of all things as we know it.
Why? He was making the point that he has no reason to lie about the figures.Agreed. Although that OA video where he discusses his views... the bit where he says "Views on my ED videos are down but my channel is doing fine so I don't really care" (paraphrasing) was criiiiiiingey and what puts a bad taste in my mouth about "content creators" to begin with.
It was an insight the majority of us don't have. It was interesting imo.Agreed. Horizons had the same issue - it's probably because there's only so many ways a crater can look tbh. Deep and round tends to be like, their thing.
Can't tell you the number of times in Horizons I found the same crater with this giant nipple in the middle

Hey Erei ?
Now, I’ve not been to this engineer place - but I see it in your sig image often. Is it Really that bad? Can someone go have a look. And also where is it? Cos I’m so lowly i dont even have anything engineered yet.

If you link the peaks of two poles (you know, a bit like you're chest link you're legs),what do you think it will happen ?Ahh, you see.. NOW is a good time for the Posts @ Noon photo

Yuk - that needs workYes it's the engineer place (Farseer inc).
The signature is pre patch6. It changed in patch 6, but only in color. Now it's greenish.
It's a handcrafted location and it seems they didn't do it properly for odyssey. It's important to note (IE it's rather unique, and not how all the terrain look like, thankfully). Originally, we had "puke camo" at others place, but over time it seems to have been mostly fixed.
Even without considering the "puke carpet" textures, the location lost all it's details in ground formation. it's just smooth and cut with a hot knife in butter.
