From what I remember the book is very different to the film.

On a serious note, the film is very far detatched from the book, but both have their merits in their own right. I watched the film before reading the book (as I did with all of Philip K 's stories that were recreated in holywood; A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Total Recall, and Man In The High Castle), and still enjoyed the original works immensely.
Although the book is good, I much prefer the film. Its ironic that some of the best dystopian sci fi films are better than the books they were based on. My absolute favourite being Children of Men, which is far superior to the book (IMO).

The film is loosely based on the first half of the book, but the film is an utter masterpiece. To me its Clive Owens best film.
When I was a cook in the Army, I saw this other cook who was fishing jalapeno peppers out of a #10 can with his hand. Then he realized he really needed to go whiz. He came out of that bathroom dancing a funky jig.possibly better than finding out when you go for a wee....
Managed to acquire a PDF copy to put on the e-reader later... once the book is demolished, then I'll take on the film from your recommendation!
