African Painted Dog

I know it's a canine and thus not so popular and breeds quickly and such but ... it's one of the rarest (and, IMO, one of the more interesting) canids in the world - almost due entirely to human activity. It's a little underpriced when you release them to the wild. I also wish they group size could be larger, in the wild, their packs can get quite large (they do, admittedly need very large territories). It'd be nice if they got overcrowded less (in terms of numbers, not space size) and they were worth more when released.

How many can live in a pack, in-game? Because the dholes can have like 30, if I'm not mistaken.

Just some trivia most probably know, but dogs are far more successful in their hunts than cats are. And the way the African wild dog hunts is amazing: some chase the prey into a kinda forested area, and the others ambush.

African painted dogs are so beautiful, I think they really stand out from other canines.
I would love if there could be bigger litters. In reallife African wild dogs sometimes have very big litters with eight or even more cubs. I only get one or two cubs in each litter in Planet Zoo.

African painted dogs carry canines family, overall felines have higher kill success rate.
In general yes, but African Painted Dogs are one of the most successful hunters, period.

With an impressive 80 percent success rate, wild dogs are among Africa's most effective predators. Lions only prevail around 30 percent of the time. Even with their finely honed hunting skills, African wild dogs count among the world's most endangered mammals.

Huh. I tend to get 3-4 pups in a litter. Then again, I play mostly in Sandbox or the easy mode in franchise so maybe that makes a difference.

It is intentionally so players don't have problems with to many offspring.

Weird. I also play Sandbox only and haven't got more than two cubs in one litter.

There are successful hunters among big cats, but they do also have ones with lower success rates.
Lions are fairly comparable to wolves in that regard (I think a tiny bit higher), and tigers are far lower.
Though it is important to remember that high success rates in hunts isn't anything. There is also the energy expended, the reward of the hunt (painted dogs for example only have the high success rate on small-medium antelopes), the availability for it (pumas may have higher success rates than wolves in hunting elk, but they need to do it in wooded areas while the wolves can do it wherever) and other stuff.
Basically, higher success rates in hunts don't mean that an animal is better nor that it is worse.

You also have to consider the reward… 1 antelope kill for a leopard = 1 antelope to eat per leopard. 1 antelope for a pack of 10 dogs = 1/10th of an antelope per dog.

And their appeal rating. They have one of the lowest in the game, lower to the hyaena for example, and while i Do understand that we need low appeal animals too, they are just a weird choice to have as far as i know the lowest of all canines
Yeah like it never really made sense to me considering how "exotic" they are. They should be given a higher appeal rating in my own personal opinion.

We have some in our local zoo and they are delightful. They sleep in a pile all together - they're very social.
