Notoriety: an environmental sin

Getting bounties is fair enough, if you are doing something illegal, but getting notoriety whilst doing a mission is a no go. Specially in Odyssey where mission and bounties sticking on the player head instead beeing linked to the ship, as in hozizons, getting notoriety for fullfilling mission is really an issue. It

Just got notoriety for doing an odyssey ground mission (settlement raid). Since when we are getting notoriety by following mission instructions? Now i am forced to keep my computer running just to get rid of this ********! Besides this:

Keeping the computer running to get it removed is a complete waist of energy and resources. It is not understandable FDEV forcing its customers to become polluters, while nearly every big company is trying to become energy neutral and while governments are supporting energy saving. Therefor the "Notoriety" feature is absolutly not state of the art and must be reworked or removed intirely - to safe energy - to safe our planet!

I want to suggest the following sollution:
  • no notoriety at all
  • low bounties if you do illegal missions like settlement raids or massacre missions
  • very high bounties for doing illegal stuff without a mission (current bounty system is good but should be doubled)
  • extremly high bounties (i.e. 20 mio) if you are killing players with crime report activated while not beeing in a combat zone and / or an anarchy system and no bounties for killing players with crime report off. This gives the players the possibility to choose their own path.
  • sending special forces after players if they have more than $$$ bounty (replace $$$ with a value of your choice)
  • bounties must be paid on death. if you dont have enough money you are force to sell all your assets. If you still dont have enough money to pay your bounty you have to start in a sidewinder again with 1000 CR in your purse.
  • players who are killing other players with bounties should get a reward (but not a money reward). maybe a new rank like "bountyhunter"?

Happy discussing!

Hahaha, love this. I CAN be...I can be :')
Good. I like this. I'd be happy to add myself to your "emergent content tracking system", ahem, "friends list" ;). In fact I'd be honored. But if you ever see a CMDR out named "Tucker Clellan", please shoot me. I'm begging you! :) It's like... yes, achievement unlocked!

Keep up the good work and the great attitude, Sally, it's muchly appreciated! :)

Maybe you want to have a look at this thread within the suggestions:

Just to add, so far I have not really seen this though obviously it is being seen by others based on what I'm reading. On missions when sent specifically to kill a settlement I have not had notoriety develop. I'm almost positive at least one raid was on a non-anarchy or criminal faction too. I have had it instantly on killing when it was not the objective, like killing the lab tech that's giving me grief trying to steal a sample.

So maybe you want to double check:
1) get into a "normal" system
2) get a normal "settlement raid mission" in the same system (not the ones where you have to kill scavengers)
3) fullfill the mission and take your reward
4) report in here ;)

I disagree. Just because you do your killing as part of a mission should not stop you from becoming notorious. On top of that, I've done two missions in the last two days, both to massacre faction members in non-anarchy states, and not one bounty or spec of notoriety: both missions were to take out criminal factions, though.

If anyone fancies....

We need 10 to rid us from this nonsense
iirc it only counts as a kill because PEGI would change the rating otherwise, citing we could shoot them while they're stunned.

An older game had it so where a non-lethal takedown on an NPC counts as that NPC being dead, but you are not penalized for killing them. Either way, that specific NPC was not going to get back up.

Oh gosh you're so welcome. I feel really bad when I need time to muscle things on dev and "behind the curtain" side, so end up quiet in here some days, BUT it's all because I'm off doing my job from the awesome work that comes out of our time here!
