The truth in that is evident in brain being the one who thinks it's a good idea to try. As we are made aware in Pinky & the Brain, Pinky is quite likely just patronizing the much less intelligent Brain by asking and doing what he wants every night - as pinky often points out the flaws in brain's plans and goes along anyway, giving brain a chance to abort...but brain always fails to see what pinky sees. And pinky has come closer to world domination than brain - only failing because pinky doesn't want to dominate the world.
So, if Pinky really is the brain in this outfit, and as you say, we're purely along for the ride as far as the cosmos is concerned.
