Description

The Exiled Marlinist Assembly of Baltah'Sine has declared war against the Marlinism Reformation Party in the Hyades Sector RO-P b6-2 system.​

Political relations degenerated into open combat following the NMLA’s recent attacks, with Acting First Minister Amrita Ross’s efforts to negotiate a peaceful resolution proving unsuccessful. ​

​

Supporters of the Marlinism Reformation Party are gathering at the Steel Majesty megaship. This was formerly used by the Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid to flee from their home system.​

​

Minister Aaron Whyte sent this message from his private vessel:​

Volkov’s unlawful strike is a violation of our colonies’ charter. We call upon all true Marlinists to defend us from this illegal act of aggression.

The Alliance, Empire and Federation have informed the Marlinist Consulate that they consider this conflict to be a strictly internal matter.​

The two factions have set out seven-day campaigns, which will end early on Thursday the 19^th of August 3307. If one faction meets its objectives earlier than planned, the initiatives will end immediately.​

​

To be eligible for rewards, you must sign up as an active participant before handing in Combat Bonds at the Steel Majesty in the Hyades Sector RO-P b6-2 system.​

​

Please note that if you have any crew members, a proportion of your combat bonds will be automatically assigned to them. These combat bonds will not count towards your personal contribution total, and your crew will receive the reward for these combat bonds when they are handed in. The proportion of combat bonds assigned to your crew will depend on their rank.​

​

Be aware that faction-state changes and other disruptive events can negatively impact markets and station services, and could prevent the initiative from running smoothly.​

The morale high ground exists in Elite? Morality is simply the tool evil uses to convince normal people they are the good guys. I as an Imperial accept I'm a villain. In fact, I'm a supervillain. And do you want to know why? Becuase of presentation!

The only surprising thing about Serene Harbour was that they bothered keeping a terrorist prison and interrogation centre so clandestine in the first place.

But if the empire cares so much about it's civilians why do they keep enslavement legal? The rulers only want to ensure their high position and profit - that's why the empire is not a democracy.

There is no obvious contradiction between the existence of imperial slavery and the Empire protecting its civilians.

On one level you could say the imperial slavery system is about the Empire caring for its civilians, using it to catch them when they fall rather than just cutting them loose. In fact, you might want to read the Knowledge Base articles on the Empire's society and culture & values to see how it works.

The only leading Imperial figure we know of that has any real interest in profit is Torval. The others seem to have rather more abstract motives.

As far as the Empire being a democracy goes - why should it want to be? Objectively speaking, there's nothing special about democracy. It's a political system like any other, with good and bad points. Other options, you might say, are available - and the Roman model the Empire is based on grew one of the world's greatest civilisations. Why not follow that model if it works?
