Refresh rates question.

Hi.

I'm currently using a 55" 4k tv as a monitor. My current setup lets me play in 4k resolution as long as everything's turned down low. that has a 60hz refresh rate, but I can't realistically get a higher fps than that anyway.

In the near future, however, I'm getting a new rig - Ryzen 9, gtx 3080, 32gb which is a lot more powerful. I also have 50" 4k tv, which can handle a 120hz refresh. Now, the 50" is better as a tv, so I'm wondering whether swapping them over is worth it.

Bottom line - Will I get any noticeable visual improvement playing at 120hz instead of 60hz (taking into account that I'll be turning all the settings up to max)

Cheers.

The higher the refresh rate the less likely you'll notice tearing if you aren't using some form of vsync. Higher refresh rate panels also have a loose tendency of being faster panels with less blur/ghosting.

All other things being equal (they rarely are...ideally you'd be weighing all the other relevant IQ factors between the displays), I would personally find the higher refresh rate worthwhile, in and of itself, doubly so if I could drive frame rates significantly higher than the refresh rate of the slower panel.

Also, not all "120Hz" TVs actually accept a 120Hz input. Make sure yours does before moving anything around on account of the refresh rate.

I had a similar set up and decided to bite the bullet and buy a proper gaming monitor which runs at 250hz and boy what a difference
