State of the Game

lots of sphere of combat stuff geared towards multiplayer same instance gameplay.. you know, to benefit all of the multi-player same instance gameplay that the game has all the time.

No possibility of hiring npcs to provide air support or word on taking missions where you serve a role while npcs take the other on your team.

What's to be conjectured upon the megaships are getting interiors and the carriers are not.

nope. it's been verified. carriers are the megaships in question. You would have to be purposely 5th columning your own game to not be referring to carrires in that future feature. And as we already know, Fdev is having a delightful time working on this passion project that they're extremely proud of. They couldn't possibly be sabotaging it just to troll their users.

Carriers are getting interiors then?

Hmm interesting.

the alternative is that only the megaships that aren't carriers are getting interiors.

So the explicitly said that the megaships mentioned in the update thread will include player owned fleet carriers?

Surely you dont think fdev is that inept to make such a design decision.

Prison megaships already have interiors, so making that bigger is not that much of a stretch.

However, with the network overhead on FCs I'm not sure if ED won't grind to a halt with having extra stuff.

FC's only have network overhead when you move them.

otherwise, they're no different than any other base.

and the moving part is only an update to a database and registering to the instancing server.

the clients just disconnect and reconnect to the instance during the jump sequence just like any other jump.

I'm not sure- you still have to deal with a station concourses level of data at any one time. And when all thats in one system with thirty FCs I wonder if thats going to cause issues. Hopefully by now the network code that deals with FCs and the stuff in them is mature enough.

what's going on inside a concourse doesn't need to be transmitted to anyone outside of it's instance. and you can't have more than 1 such thing in a given instance.

just like there can be all kinds of stuff going on inside CZ's and roid rings..but if you're in supercruise, none of that matters ... instancing makes it easy to compartmentalize the data sent between the client and anything over the network.

now sending data from within concourses to ships who may be outside of the concourse ...separated by walls that can't be seen thru is where the client code needs all that fun optimization work. But that would only impact the few players sharing that instance. And it would not change or scale in scope because of the number of stations in a system.

It still has to go to the transaction servers though. Given how rickety Odyssey has gotten it might push things over the edge.

it's not like you'll be able to loot and pick up stuff. no different really than docked ships cause in terms of network traffic. everything else is p2p

the only thing really needing to be sent to fdev is the fact that you exited your ship.
