Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I've only dabbled in it so far.
Poisonous planet with toxic storms occurring every time you blink, so be careful.
I'm going to have to hoof it far away from my ship to get to a location where I can build a base, the planet seems crowded, as all players doing this expedition are on the same planet, however I need the blueprint for the base computer first.
I haven't spent enough time to actually look at all the steps to get the blueprint, so I suppose the thing for me to do next is sit in my ship, and go over all the different tech trees.
I may be too impatient of a person to actually do an expedition, we'll see.

You get two months, and you don't have to complete things in order. I scanned all the creatures on the planet, and got a reward from tier 3, even though I've not completed tier 1 yet. So you're free to basically do the expedition any way you like, which is cool.

One thing though - apparently one of the rewards you get is a Station Override, which you can put into the terminals at the back of stations. If you've not completed the expedition though, it'll say you're unauthorised & then swallow it.

Okay, so as is my usual NMS ritual, every new update I TRY to like the game again. Maybe this will be the time it sticks? I genuinely want to like it.

So I installed it, booted up my 70+ hour save game.

Found I was parked on the nexus(?) thingy. Very nice graphics, lovely smooth movement on my old system, good good.

Fly out in to space. I'll head back to that planet there, I think I have a base there? Maybe? Not sure if that icon is my base but let's go.

Spool up the drive to fly there ... no fuel. Need asteroids. Attacked by pirates. INFURIATING mouse combat controls.

OK, killed the pirates. Still no fuel, no asteroids. Wait, I probably just need to craft fuel from my inventory.

Yes. Have fuel.

Fly to planet, great.

Oh, it's not my base, it's one of those bases with a landing pad and terminals.

I don't like it. Sorry.

Uninstalled. Again.
Where are the usual suspects asking for your stuff?
oh right, most that play NMS are pretty laid back and don’t need passive aggressive behaviour to try and belittle someone for expressing an opinion

Apologies for the passive aggressive :D

In NMS, people rarely ask for stuff, and if they do they get bunches. People actually give away stuff randomly because they managed to collect so much of a thing. I've heard about people randomly receiving living ship eggs or horror eggs just by walking in the Anomaly and meeting people. So it's more like "`Oy. I gotz stuff. I gib 2 u. 'Ere ya go."

Update fixed some issues... now completed expo 3...

Signal booster was not working even outside of bases (now fixed works again, out side of bases.)
Anomaly was not able to be triggered to spawn in space. When you launch from planet with hyperdrive still offline... (fixed)

Not a very big task... and they give you over 6 weeks to do this one...

The hardest one was to be in air for 30 seconds. I was struggling getting a tall enough mountain that I could climb. Finally did it, barely. Hit the ground at 30.1 seconds or something. LOL!

Easy way for me was using storms that boost jump pack power... waited for storm at side of cave entrance... then boost into side of cave as roof prevent you going up you just sit there hovering not going up... but balance with left to right controls....

Geez the expedition isn’t new player friendly is it. Having fun with it with myself after many restarts of learning.. but it would probably be well over you head for new.

You have to turn off multiplayer and possibly chat for the game to not turn into odyssey.

Yeah funny about the elite community. Not caring now, it’s clear that the game just is. It’s just software. The huge amounts of bad blood are truly towards first frontier and then the white knights for tell you you’re wrong when it’s right in front of you. The stuff that goes on here is so far up itself it’s a bit sad. Having said, befor frontiers paid forum trolls came back, there was almost a year of peace where everyone agreed, was civil and got along….

One of the issues I see for newer players is when story mode tries to divert you from the Expo 3 targets...

One core example of this is an annoying pop up comms message that's meant to give you a FC which is not needed for Expo 3... but new players may not know that...
Another When you finally fixed the ship and jump from system to another it again tries to force another story mode mission that nothing to do with the Expo 3... So if they did not know to ignore that and select the correct mission in the log screen they would do a lot of content, again that's not to do with expo 3...

Wow. Fancy. Never tried that.

Yes. Absolutely. Any save file, I believe. You claim them at the quicksilver trader in the Anomaly/Nexus.

At the end of the Expedition, your expedition save file converts to normal or disappears, I'm not sure which.
So confirmed, the expedition save file (it says so in the mission log) will be converted to a normal save file. I assume it's at the end of the expedition period (6 weeks). Right now it stills says expedition save on mine, but I completed it. Got my "egg" at the end too. And you do keep your ship and the blueprints you acquired.

Nice one. Will keep that in mind.

I just restarted mine, spent the first hour and half bouncing around 20 fps because of the multiplayer. I also used the ion batteries to charge the toxic protection addon tech, using ammonia was much more efficient (and the achievement for walking around in storms seems much more realistic). Also my gravitino balls bugged out and i lost them... this time won't claim the reward until needed, or will build a base storage locker first. Which means power first. Yeah its definitely enjoyable to still be learning :)

So what's it for, and is it worth saving?

Not sure. They added that console in Prisms (I believe), but nobody had the chit it asks for so it was assumed "reserved for future expansion". Maybe station ownership? Lots of speculation flying about.

Point is - don't use it yet. It's almost certainly worth saving.

After 5 years of playing this game on and off, I've finally completed the Artemis questline from beginning to end for the first time.

Just been so many other things to do that I always get sidetracked and never done it. I'd heard it was quite sad, but... omg...

😳😱

For a sandbox survival builder the story was actually quite good.

It's really good, and actually rather affecting. Did it last night and I'm still thinking about it. Did I make the right choices? Would it have changed anything if I'd made different ones?

Anyone reading this - if you haven't completed it to its end - you definitely should. It'll flip your ideas about the game, even when you know the basic outline. Well, it has mine anyway. 🤷‍♀️

One of the best things IMO about NMS is that it's not a PVP game. It's not competitive. You wants stuffz, I haz stuffz. Hav sum stuffz! Enjoy!

Got a void egg randomly at the anomaly at the start of my current save, which grew into a ship, and now I pay it forward wherever I can.

Awesome, well done. :)

Can I ask a favour of you? If you got a Station Override as part of expo 3, can you create a manual save and then try and use it in a station? Curious to know the results.
