Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Of course, we now see the pay to win effect of SC, with some people logging in and back to starter ships while others will log in with a full fleet ready to go.
It is what it is...it was that way back in the beginning, it's still that way now and always will be. If anyone who's bought into the project has an issue with it, rather than someone who never has just making an observation we should all be aware of by now...they shouldn't have pledged in the first place. Were they perhaps just plain hoping it was all a dream and they'd just wake up in the shower 2 years later and it would all be different? :D

Not talking about PvP. Talking about progress.

Why do people so often thing P2W revolves around PvP? You know there are many single player games out there that are pay to win?

Because if i'm moving a fat cargo load of boxes in my $260 ship to progress some chav in a peasant trolley can ruin my day in about 5 minutes flat.

While i agree the game is very much p2w, there's one slight factor compounding this - starting ship configurations are almost always lowest possible tier for everything. Kinda like freshly bought ED ships being E-class, you need to do a lot of shopping around in order to get a proper build, and that costs a lot of money (outfitting a Hercules C2 with top tier equipment is about 1.5M IIRC - which is not starting money at all). But yeah that C2 can pay for itself rather quickly provided they fix the space trucking (did they yet ?).

Most of the 'progress' will be dependent on whether any individual is a member of an org or not too. Practically every org in SC has at least one or two members who have a few ships tailored to cargo, mining or even bounty hunting. Ships for the most part are a shared resource.

Coming from an ED perspective or similar, the ability for anyone else to fly your ships should the need arise might seem strange. Even some random commando running a few box missions in an Aurora to buy a ROC buggy will always have someone willing... even from just asking in global chat...to lend them a Cutty black or an MSR to ferry the ROC around in until such time they can afford to buy their own with in game credits.

'The ship is mine' thing works a lot differently is all.

Nope...it'll be broken until Ci¬G revamp the whole trading thing at some point...they've said as much. No more hotfixes, so cargo hauling is still a complete pain until whatever they're planning to do with the economy is done.

This was amazing, thank you

Anyone just plain hoping that it wasn't going to happen whilst they went off and built a fleet of in game ships is bordering on complete idiocy...

Hey, stop talking about the shiny new players like that ;)

Yeah I’m sure it won’t be global, but it’s just inevitable that the 'playable now' sheen will have put some into the standard grind mindset. This is their first full alpha rodeo now, and some of them won’t like being bucked is all.

There will be salt ;)

Don’t fight, run away. MSR is faster ¯\(ツ)/¯

You’ve bought a Millenium Falcon bro ;)

There is that..... unless i'm in atmosphere in which case my ship goes and handles like a block of flats, the Millennium Falcon doesn't get away from Tie Fighters in atmosphere and its a sitting duck without a crew.

As @Mole HD said, shared resource.

Still completely irrelevant to the P2W point.

Some people start with nothing. Some people start with a lot more.

Again, you reference PvP. Again, P2W doesn't have to be about PvP. Single player games can be P2W.

The MSR doesn't give me an edge over anyone, i can earn more money mining in caves than i can moving cargo around, a lot more, and i don't even need a ship for that.

Copying a post on SA from @WotGTheAgent here because it might be fun to see if it comes true and reference later.

Database wipe coming in the next patch: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...m/1/thread/currency-hotfix-and-upcoming-wipes

I figure this is Turbulent transitioning away from the broken rear end poo poo CIG did over the last 8 years to their shiny new backend service. Pretty sure AWS is getting the boot next, so expect a player server cap bump (probably to 100 or 125)

We’ll damn, with its non-working goods smuggling, data smuggling, and scanning station, its chess set which makes you want to rip your own arm off, and its inability to evade a starter ship… the MSR is starting to sound a little overpriced ;)

I'm pretty sure AWS are getting the boot, i'm not at all sure about a server cap rise any time soon, at least not double or more tho i wouldn't rule out a smaller bump, its been tested.

Yeah, it does seem CIG are trying to distance themselves from Amazon.

Its funny though, CIG made such a big thing about switching over to Amazon/Lumberyard to get out of their deal with CryTek.

And now we are led to believe ToW is made with Unreal.

We hear how Firesprite and Turbulent have taken responsibility for a number of things in SC's development.

One has to wonder what those hundreds of CIG employees are actually doing all day long and why CIG have to rely on third parties to do this stuff if CIG (alledgedly) has so much talent.

I don't fly it without the radar dish deployed

Data mining is just one aspect of it, and its not why i bought it.

You will get no argument from me in that regard, i think going AWS was a mistake.

As for Engine choice, at the time i think Cryengine was the right choice.

Incidentally, did everyone see Obsidian Ant's latest?

I suspect Ant enjoys making these vids, building up the possibilities and then politely crushing them. What's coming next in Star Citizen?! Pyro?? Well, probably not any time soon. Nix?? Well, no, I wouldn't hold your breath. But hey, it might happen!
