Species Field Guide - T. rex

You can change their skin colour and their pattern colour from many different colour options, letting you mix and match the two. You won't be able to change the pattern itself, but having no pattern is an option.
Ahhhh I see, that's a good compromise, thanks. So the options are:
  • Pattern on/off
  • Pattern Colour
  • Skin colour
Now to be completely happy I just need confirmation of the JP classic skins :)

I agree. I NEED the TLW rexes

.. so there's only one pattern per species now which you can choose to use or not? That would severely limit customisation for dinos which I was excited for.
This is getting more confusing the more people try to clarify specifics. I think I'll sit it on the "wait until release day to get an actual clear answer" pile of questions.

Which is why I was insisting on being clear, but I hope everything is clear now.

Having one pattern per species rules out JP skins, as they changed the patterns in jwe1, not just the colouring. Oh well.
Still looking forward to it, this is a bit too hard to explain in text I believe. Need the game to release!!

Where was it ever stated that we only get the option to turn one pattern on and off? Never saw anything about it, rather read that you can chose from different patterns and different skin/pattern colors.

I think having different patterns was an early assumption. I remember youtubers around the dinosaur customisation info time period saying there was 12 or so patterns per species. however now we know it is only 1 pattern and I guess that means only skin colours get unlocked through challenge modes, so no pattern choices except on or off. I was stupidly hoping for better options for dinosaurs then JWE1 had. But it seems to be the same base skin colour system just with an extra colour choice for the spots or stripes.

Yeah, just saw. I‘m only on my phone right now and it didn‘t load all the posts >.<

Sad to see there won‘t be more to the system was really hoping for more from what we were shown and told about it in the past :/
Well I mean, we still have many, MANY combinations.

Either way, every dinosaur I've seen so far looks amazing with the upgrade to textures, and model tweaks alone so it's not like we're getting a downgrade from jwe1 even if the customisation is far more limited then I felt they had teased it to be.
Just look at the Rexies! and my new favourite Qianzhousaurus! <3
I'm disappointed, but not enough to dowse my excitement.

eta: Ok seems the 'dozen pattern choices' came from a journalist article, and it's possible they actually meant a dozen or so pattern colours, not patterns themselves. This is where all the confusion and mis-info stemmed from I believe. My brain wouldn't settle until I figured it out 😅 . Theorising a dozen pattern colours, and skin colours, plus 2 pattern choices (pattern or null I suppose) still adds to a large variation of dinosaurs. Not as many as we could have gotten but a more realistic set in the long run. This would point to the velociraptor with stripes in the background of a screenshot isn't "jp skin confirmations!" as some declared, but rather the velociraptor pattern, and the other skin we saw for them was the 'null'.

I'm happy to hear that! :) There will still be lots of different colour combinations to choose from.

Thanks for clarifying @Jens Erik . I was misrepresenting some info but I am glad it is cleared up now. It's still exciting knowing how many skin combos we will have between the base skin colors and the new exciting pattern colors!

Hoping you guys notice how open we were to multiple patterns, and, if the coding is not a nightmare, it ends up making it into the game down the road as part of an update.

I'm fine with each species only having one pattern, which can be colored and also turned on or off. That still gives a lot of options. I'd rather have more dinosaur species than more patterns. Sometimes the only way to tell two closely related species apart is through their patterning.

For instance, I personally wished the Deinonychus looked a lot more like Velociraptor and just with different patterning.

Honestly, that's still great. So many possibilities, SO many combinations. If every gene we saw in the previews is final, that's already 84 possible combinations per species if all genes apply to all species. But the key is Quality over Quantity, and JWE already proved it had Quality, JWE2 is only continuing that trend. So far, every animal looks incredible and I can't wait to see every skin JWE2 has to offer.
