State of the Game

It's not a dog's, and it's barely cooked but I'm happy to save it for you.

Don't fill up too much though, I'm going to combine crisps and mysterymeat sausages for seconds.

That's tea for tonight sorted - just popping out to buy the crisps and cocktail sausages.

Perhaps 'Hedgehogs' to go with them - any excuse to use up the pineapple leftover from last nights pizza
Perhaps some Angel Delight or Instant whip for pudding?

(Light blue touch paper, and run away very quickly)

EDIT: Added Images for the uninitiated

We still have hedgehogs at family parties.
The children look at me in the same way I looked at my grandad when he tucked in to jellied eels.

I'm only seeing the best cuisine from my childhood here. So classy, and so tasty too.

we have wifi, it isn't a good alternative here to hardline. not only is it contending with surrounding networks, but it's shared bandwidth degrades the more active the clients are on it. and we're relying on it currently and this house must have wifi blocking paint because 20ft away and my signal struggles to maintain 150mbit on an 80mhz ac band.

i usually like leaving wifi up to the mobile devices and gaming consoles and such. the TV, pc's would all not be wifi.
I use IP through the mains plugs, they work fine. Not sure if they have a generic name, but look for TP-Link.

As an aside, what speed Internet do you have? Do you need the full 150mbs?

Minor point, shared bandwidth is shared, no matter how the clients connect. You only have the one 'pipe' that you all terminate to, the one at the 'front door'. Just saying.

Be aware those powerpline plugs have to be in the same electricity ring, and will get lower speeds based on distance, how 'clean' the line is (i.e. certain appliances cause interference). The good news is....you can mix and match them :D I had two pairs of them, lost one plug and found I could add the third and it was 'seen' still.

Powerlines are also mega slow compared to full fat CAT 6 / 5E cables too. Even the fast ones lose a lot of bandwidth so take the ratings with a pinch of salt.

I also find no matter the brand they just lose connection for no reason if not in use continually, then need reset to connect again.

Quite right about them needing to be on the same ring main. The speed I get at my PC is basically indistinguishable from what I get when plugged directly into the router, so I'm both happy and perhaps lucky. It was also a lot happier/easier/cheaper solution than laying cables.

I've also used WiFi boosters, and they work very well too. Alas, I can't recall the brand I used, but it was a great solution to a troublesome brick wall!

We have 50mb/s DSL. (50 down/25 up)

The "home office" (1 printer, 1 server, my PC and wife's iMac) is connected via 1gb/s cat 6. Everything else (4 TVs, 2 consoles, 4 phones, 3 tablets, 3 laptops, 1 PC and various, seemingly ever present, "guests") is all on wifi.

Our wifi is a Linksys EA7300 dual band router w/ 3 staggered antennas, mounted on a door frame near the ceiling in the central hallway, which I'm using as a WAP. Some devices are connected to 2.4 GHz others connect to 5 GHz.

All of our "consumption entertainment" is streamed (GoogleTV, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney, etc../). We ditched cable/satellite over a year ago.

Once or twice per month we have to reset the "WAP" and the DSL router, otherwise it works very well for us; granted, we're in a 1000 sq/ft single floor dwelling.

TL;DR. Summed up with sign language for the hearing impaired

Well, what a week it's been for me. I was given a temporary holiday from the thread because I said Star Trek Discovery wasn't that bad (Jokes it really is bad) then I discover my kid (13) who doesn't live with me has Covid and now to cap off Friday I get my household (Three people including me) PCR test results back and one of the other people in my house has Covid.

Anyway, I don't want to go full ender so have a meme....
