ED Core Usage - Single core usage maxed

Running I9 w/16 logical, ED maxes out 1 core (#13) no matter what. The others hover near idle. In this case, nothing else is running, just the launcher and load screen paused in BG but it doesn't matter what I'm doing in-game, one core is always lit up full tilt. What is going on? Why isn't the load properly distributed?

I have a 12 core AMD and it seems balanced across cores pretty well, nothing like what you're showing. Here's a partial shot, I can't see all 12 at once but they are all similar.

@Ram Paige It's likely not EDO, my Intel core usage is really well thread spread as with @Codger 's AMD ones.

[1st column being Min Usage, 2nd column being Max Usage, 3rd being Average Usage.]

Try monitoring software other than Task Manager, perhaps it is reporting incorrectly. Otherwise, perhaps you have some W10 power settings throttling all cores except the one you state? Virus check for trojan software running off one core hoping not to get noticed?

@DJ007 all good suggestions, I've ruled out those potential causes. OS is a new, clean build. This core lights up and stays lit no matter what I'm doing in-game. I've checked other processes (Lasso) and it's 100% ED, I don't know why it's feasting on CORE13 but it really likes that. Sucks because it brings my coretemp up, rather than load-balancing over the 16 cores. RTX barely breaks 30% at ultra so no idea what's going on.

The last things I can think of to try is to run the client directly, rather than through Steam. Installing now and I'll update...

UPDATE: 100% related to affinity. 16 cores available, locking exe down to 8 seems to be the sweet spot. Still is curiously high usage, 8x cores @ ~4.5Ghz seems like a lot.

UPDATE for anyone goog'd here:
100% related to affinity. 16 cores available, locking exe down to 8 seems to be the sweet spot. Still is curiously high usage, 8x cores @ ~4.5Ghz hovering at ~18% seems like a lot. Still, it's better than one core lit up 100% all the time.

Would like to see a dev chime in to see if this is a known issue on high-core count CPUs?

Interesting
I will check later in the evening how it looks on my new laptop with ryzen 9 5900hx (8c/16t)
On my older laptop with i7-9750h (6c/12t) i haven't noticed any anomalies, but i will recheck

I'm still seeing the same result as originally reported. Have used lasso to check and there is nothing else running. Usage is ~1% on idle. One core ramps to 100% on launch/idle at load screen. If I leave it at load screen for 20 minutes it's still 100% with the only thing running is ED.

How many fps do you have in that load screen ?

As for the background usage. Sometimes, i had a problem when ED would ignore vsync while in background.
My cpu/gpu usage would shot up while ED was in background.
I don't think it happens anymore. But at that time, I had to use the ingame fps limit on top of using vsync :)

@MrVaad How many fps do you have in that load screen ?

It's G-SYNC @ 144Mhz locked at 60FPS. I get weird tearing along the bottom of the screen if I don't lock it down. It stays locked @ 60 in-game, really no matter what is going on. I check the logs and usage on the GPU hovers in the 30% range and the one core that it spikes @ 100% stays locked, the rest never break 20%.

I've played with affinity and reducing core allocation (I tried 8 and 4) which seemed to help but it's still an odd problem. I max settings, I play for fidelity, but my rig can certainly handle it, it's just this single core issue that bugs. FYI, I've tried the Steam version and the EDLauncher version, same results. I'll just add that I lock vsync and framerate in NVIDIA panel and in-game.
