I'm really curious WHEN technical state of Odyssey will correspond to officialy announced hardware requierements. This is something what I expected should be adressed by Patch 8, but slowly changing phrases and annoucements makes me less and less optimistic in this regard ...

Did you watch the stream? They said it was lower priority and was only being investigated. I think the Update 8 is a bit of a red herring (happy to be proven wrong by wrong). Same also holds true the VR orbit lines issue (my pet peeve).
Argh. Yeah, I suspected as much since its still tagged as "investigating" - although I expect that roughly translates to "We need to figure out what it'll break if we add it in."

Greetings Commanders!

It's time for the latest of our Issue Reports. Below you'll find the latest Top 20 table, based on your most voted issues in the Issue Tracker.

Note: the status and planned release of each issue is subject to change as various factors affect the ongoing development schedule.

Top 20 Issues

  1. Tiling Planetary Features - As before - would require a large overhaul so no short term plans.
  2. Automated accounts are used to influence BGS and Powerplay. - See our statement from 9 September.
  3. Anti Aliasing Not Working Correctly - Anti-aliasing improvements will come in Update 8 with additional ones planned for the future.
  4. Exiting the Game just hangs need to force terminate - Still under investigation.
  5. Joystick buttons 32+ not working - Still under investigation.
  6. Severe performance problems since Update 5 - The specific cause of frame rate drops following Update 5 has been identified and should be resolved in Update 8. Further performance work will be ongoing thereafter.
  7. Expose telemetry data for motion simulators - This is still being discussed internally.
  8. Dav's Hope not spawning materials - Appears to be fixed for Update 8 - confirming internally with our QA team.
  9. Supercruise Stuck at 0 - Still under investigation.
  10. Interdiction progress bars not visible - Appears to be fixed, currently planning deployment.
  11. NPC Fighter kills in Conflict Zones counting for the progression are a potential exploit. - Appears to be fixed in Update 8.
  12. Planets and Moons orbit lines not visible in the FSS when in VR - Under investigation.
  13. System and Galaxy map misalignment in widescreen aspect ratios (21:9) - Requires significant/fundamental changes. Nothing to announce.
  14. Missions and rewards not sharing with the team - Still being worked on.
  15. Thermal conduit too strong and wrong damage increase - Appears fixed for Update 8. Issue largely comes down to difficulty understanding how they work. Changes should allow players to see when it activates and how much it's activating by.
  16. Incorrect brightness/contrast adjustment depending on angle between camera ship and star - Some of these issues seem related to system limitations while others are genuine bugs. Will be worked on after performance/optimisation is improved.
  17. Discovered systems show validating - Appears related to the way we identify Xbox Gamer Tags - fix is still being worked on.
  18. Illumination of background planets is tied to illumination of player ship by the illuminating star - Similar to the above brightness/contrast issue: could be related to system limitations but otherwise may require further overhauls.
  19. Gamma balance is off which causes details in space to be lost - Seems related to balancing rather than gamma values. Will be investigated post performance improvements.
  20. Epic Games Store commanders having troubles with cAPI - Still under investigation.
As always, please remember this a reflection of the current situation as we see it, and the planned release for these fixes is subject to change.

Fly safe Commanders,

This is a great system, but do you think a console-specific version is needed? The biggest issues specific to console will never make the Top 20.

YA MEAN LIKE THE ONE I ORDERED TWO WEEKS AGO?!?!?

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE, MARK!!!!

(By the way, assume you know that in Virpil's software you can program the throttle to assign buttons 33+ as keyboard presses? Its a bodge job at best - there's no way of actually specifying what those keyboard presses are, they're automatically assigned, so every time I use one of the switches to open my cargo scoop, the game pauses... 🤦‍♂️ but at least it gets it functioning.)

Honestly, if they actually get this sorted, I'll dread having to go through all my binds again but it's a sacrifice I'm 110% willing to make!!!
Bahaha!! Hey, I got a pair of Ace rudder pedals with all the fixin's on its way as we speak and don't look at me like that I CAN QUIT ANY TIME I WANT.

I saw that option in their firmware to convert buttons to keyboard presses but I'm leery about using it. From what I've read up on it, it seems a bit janky and not a feature Virpil seems keen on supporting much. I have an outdated version of their firmware installed that still has the option to split the CM-2 throttle into 3 different logical devices so that Elite can handle it. It works, and I've learned to live with it, but saying it's "twitchy" is a huge kindness. If I plug in my devices in the wrong order, Elite gets very confused and I have to re-bind most of the buttons again.

If they actually squash this bug, the lengthy re-binding session is gonna be well worth being able to properly update my device firmware and use this stuff the way it's intended.

They borked their minimum/recommended hardware requirements. I think they were being wildly optimistic announcing that the game would run on 9 year old hardware, and "recommending" stuff from 4 years ago - especially with such a rushed through testing process.

In reality, I wouldn't try Odyssey (really) on a non 20XX series GPU. (i5-8600/Ryzen 2600 should be grand, though. SHOULD be.)

Depends about resolution… for 1080p should be well enough 1070 and up … heck, I play Cyberpunk on all ultra with 1070Ti … and it’s perfectly smooth all the time. Sadly EDO performance is very far from that state …

I dont know what all these hate is about npc crew use living up the expecations. When they are paid that expensive and no matter if active or not anyway they should be able to deliver some sort of usefulness as bounty bills, combat bonds and progress in a war. I mean that s what they are paid for.

The Odyssey issue with the Comms panel not getting activated in headlook/VR is now present in Horizons. This happened with Update 7 or 7.01 and the Horizons QoL improvements.

Would it be a matter of restoring the previous Horizons code to fix? If so, could we please look into this and sneak it in the next update?

Thanks!

Today I learned that I am completely out of touch with FDev's and the community's priorities. Like 'Expose telemetry data for motion simulators' - really? THAT is the community's number 7 priority item compared to the thousands of other bugs and issues??

The entire list does nothing to get me excited. The only item in FDev's list that I consider even remotely worth looking at is antialiasing.

The items I thought most players considered to be important (e.g. broken lighting: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/a-long-post-on-lighting-issues.590674/) don't even make the top 30. 🤷‍♂️

You haven't checked the list very closely... They closed the general lighting on the previous top20 last month and asked players to submit more specific lighting issues. In this top20 there have already been 3 spots being taken by lighting issues (16, 18 and 19, though I am making a bit of a stretch to consider brightness related to lighting).

So you aren't really out of touch.

That's the issue with the system. Those that shout loudest get prioritised. An edge case such as "Telemetry for motion simulators" seemingly takes priority over e.g. the fact that PS5 has game breaking crashes since launch.

to be fair, if #2 is actually a large problem being that abused, then being able to make high performing bot systems for automated accounts must also be a fairly high priority for players. So getting that telemetry is important.
