Poor performance in surface SOLVED (it works for me)!!!

Why are those files even there, if they can be deleted anyways, with "sometimes good results"? If deleting the files is good for the game, why doesn't the game just start by deleting them anytime you start it?
They contain your gfx settings, you dont want to have to set them every time you start the game...
They could get corrupted, so deleting them forces ED to get the current DEV settings

Elite Dangerous Bugdyssey is unplayable after a while. Nothing you can't do about it and since release nothing is better. FPS drops, GPU will be hot while you play on foot so... Only what you can do is flying like in Horizons, then you will have stable FPS. It's big shame and game as it is now is a one big performance bug. It should cost 15Euro with notice that this is BETA version.

Specific places have low fps and stutter, especially cz. To say its unplayable everywhere is a exaggeration. In some places it is, and this should have been corrected prerelease.

This kind of fix reminds me of the days when, if you had any sort of performance problem with a game, someone would always tell you to unpark your cores. I miss those days 😀

@StefanOS
So you agree then its half finished product right? 5months later we still have half finished product where all of us payed 100% price for it. Please do not try defend the game because since release DLC is bugged as hell.
We all the time hear "we working hard, we fix this, fix that". But TBH FDev should focus to fix all stuff that is broken rather relase well very important new content which is "Pilot suits from Horizons"... will those suits fix any bugs that are present? NO, time spent to bring such a trash should be spent to fix things not bring cosmetics into the game. Same thing with "another seat for MultiCrew". I think all of us would rather wait for new things and have playable product. I bet that MultiCrew bring another new bugs that will have to be fixed so... This is how new updates and contents look released lately from FDev.

Because horizons dont have any fps gameplay or did I miss something?

Maybe we should think a little beside our frustration...

How many fps games do exist where the developer did add a extended SPACEFLIGHT gameplay (the complete milkyway please) as expansion on top of the existing fps?

In SC one reason of the delays is that they used a very good fps engine to make a spacegame, and they had to add the tech to make that possible - which delayed the targeted release from 2014-2015 to..... 2022 - thats 7 year delay minimum, and they are 600+ devs on it.

In this context, adding spacelegs to ED is a big task. The engine needs major changes and additions to do this, the DEVs need more time to make things work better and smooth.
Sorry but that makes zero sense. The DLC was supposed to add new functionality, not to ruin what was already working fine.

On foot content and new planetary tech is totally irrelevant while you are doing Horizon-ish things like space combat. That should not be affected by the Odyssey-exclusive content in the least.

Yet space combat is looking worse (bad brightness, lost details, crap looking pa shots etc) and is working worse (lower FPS) in Odyssey than in Horizons for all I can tell.

I did not defend the game. I am a player not a FD employee. You are suggesting that horizons was 100% o.k. and EDO is broken.
Did you notice the hundreds and thousands of open issue's in the tracker for Horizons? Its far from perfect.
If the parts you play in horizons dont have bugs doesnt mean it dont have many bugs.
I personally like the additional freedom EDO gives me. Nobody likes bugged games, but additional parts bring additional problems.
The performance problems will not be solved by the stuff which makes the cosmetics. Stop offering them will not get you a better fps engine as you suggest.
Specific devs work on the render engine, and I am sure they dont design the cosmetics too...
And about the space part, there are still bugs in EDO that need to be addressed, but the frames per second are on a level where nobody should have a problem to play, even if its lower then in horizons. There is a significant portion of players that like the lighting of EDO. It has its good and it bad sides.
An last the horizons engine was tweaked for many many years - with some bad period's like the begification we had - to get to this level. Even 2020 I saw performance gains in horizons in station's. They startet 2013 after KS to work on it, that are 7 years optimazation. The EDO engine will need some time to get to this level.

@StefanOS
yes Horizons is not perfect but as you see there was 7 updates already in EDO and performance was bad and still is.
As for game engine, EDO is build on top of Horizons so game engine is not new but upgraded with same fundaments. Taking your point we will have to wait again 7years for stable EDO as it Horizons is now. You are very wrong.
Those performance issues shouldn't happen, issues was pointed out while we had Alpha release. Where was QA team before release, sleeping? No they knew game is broken but FDev released it anyways taking money from hungreds of players. For me (and not only me) it's not fair because we all heard "What you seen in alpha is very very first build of the game including planetary tech".
At last, we can make agreement if you belive (because I dont) that Update 8 will fix performance for the biggest feature which is ground FPS and it will work as intended. We will fly to Hutton Orbital for free Anaconda and I will buy you a big BEER there :) ok?

If would help if update 8 give us cz and settlements without this significant fps drops and stutter. Of cause 50% or 100% more fps would also be nice and necessary, so I can brag how much fps I have. But we will get that only if we pic up the the free Hutton anaconda and I am not prepared for this journey. Maybe with update 9, 10, 11....

Shared IRQs. Safe Mode --> Device Manager, delete all ghost devices.
That's an old trick that goes back to the days of XP. It's good advice, in a general sense, but I don't think it would have much of an effect effect here. Also, you don't need to do it in safe mode. Add the variable "DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES" to your system environment variables and set it to "1". Then, in Device Manager, you can activate "Show hidden devices" and all of the cruft will be revealed.

I was kidding, just joining in the reminiscing of old technical fixes. :) good tip though!

All i can say is i get 30 FPS on the menu screen... a static ship in a hangar. In Horizons i get stable 60 FPS on the menu (probably more if i unlocked it).

The issues are not only related to NPC AI, pathing, planetary terrain... there is something fundamentally flawed with the rendering in Odyssey.

Then again, we already knew that around the alpha, when that post came out how EDO renders everything but the kitchen sink. Not that we can do anything about it.
