Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

not gonna touch last year, but they are days away from 2021 being the 2nd best year and it is only the beginning of october.

they aren't hurting for money. well, arent hurting for revenue.

Yep.

But with all that revenue behind them they’ve still only pooped out this Citcon, and this PU. When it comes to insane blockers like 'Dynamic Server Meshing' it seems all the money in the world ain’t enough ¯\(ツ)/¯

Feels like Chris is being shoved out the SC door. Lord knows what the investor’s strategy is though. (I find it hard to believe it’s a particularly ingenious one, given how things are right now. Not sure I’d want to be relying on SQ42 [or ToW] to save my bacon…)
Maybe not as a release, but as a kiss and a promise to raise funds to go towards that oh so important equity stake/bridge financing balance, I'd expect something (mocked up) to be shown.

But I can also see Chris as MC to get butts in seats and wallets open, but with little agency beyond that.

And let me follow that up. Because maybe people aren't listening. Maybe they want to really believe that what I've been saying for almost five years isn't real, that I've been either having a laugh, or that I'm the "Q" of Star Citizen or that I'm doing this because I love Derek Smart (or I am Derek Smart), or that I'm some psyop from "Big Publisher" or whatever. I don't care. Really. Star Citizen is boring. It's done. It's absolutely done.

Dump it. Sell everything you can. It will never be anything like what you imagine. Once the real game design and systems are in place, you will disagree with them. You will argue with them. And all of it, everything you say, will fall on deaf ears.

You are a paycheck. You gave the Roberts' family an untold amount of money. You put their kid in a (front!!) credited DC show. You gave them all, every single one of their dreams. And now you're done. You're worthless.

Turbulent is taking over. Things for consoles are "happening." Chris Roberts and the old guard from Warthog and all the other companies he's hired on are leaving, replaced by traditional AAA guys who were fired from Ubisoft and EA and other places (some that were fired for very, very problematic management). The crypto dreams of buying in at $300 and making $300,000 are done.

Get. The. Hell. Out.

Wut??? lol

Care to explain how, if everything had gone perfectly with SC and it was a released game, how this would have ever been a thing?

I blow money on this, well used to, because i like space ships and wasting money in the dumbest ways possible.
Did you not follow anything about SC ship pricing, "leasing", or gray market ship selling (and CIGs increases in ship prices) over the last five to seven years?

And CIG told them "yeah, kinda, maybe, we will do that, kinda, eventually, it will certainly happen, the lease thing, at some point, where you can make money, kinda, maybe? Actually we aren't sure, but money! Gray market! We don't support it (but we do and give ships to streamers to sell) but uh there's gonna be a whole leasing thing!"

So you figure there are a bunch of grey market ship sellers here? I doubt it.

And yeah, I could make a decent amount of money just selling off all my ships at their current "sticker" price after years of playing the CCU game.

Anyone who thought they were gonna be making bank off of leasing out SC ships, well they have whats coming to them. But same, doubt there are any of those people here, if they even exist.

It was the perfect timing that hit the crossover of crypto and Kickstarter marketing. And this is what you get. A big, wet "bluuurrrghhh" from Chris Roberts' mouth almost a decade later.

I mean if you wanna enjoy the game, enjoy whatever the game is and its shoddy, weak updates. But don't play coy that there wasn't a huge, massive amount of people treating this as some kind of early crypto speculation. And maybe still are.

So there's no one here with thousands and thousands of dollars worth of ships they can offload on the gray market? Everyone, everywhere, in every conversation about Star Citizen has bought in for a modest forty five dollars?

Just dump your ships. Who cares if you offload them or where you do. CIG already has the money. The only people hurt buy offloading "inventory" are speculators and ship sellers. That's it. So if the game is great in five years, buy back in with in game credits. It should be fun enough to grind the ships using in game missions and mechanics by then, right?

After more than half a decade of posting jokes in the SA echo chamber about how SC players are all proto-fascist white supremacist crypto-loving libertarian sexual deviants who spend their kids' college fund on jpegs to deal with their power fantasies and yadda yadda, TheAgent might have a slightly skewed notion of what the average SC backer is like.

To help him out a bit: very few folks expect to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars from playing a game. That is not the norm, it's not why people care about SC or other games.

But yeah, if you care about the money you might want to sell that crap. But that was already true years ago.

i have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of ships. At no time did i think my thousands of dollars of ships would turn into 100's of thousands of dollars worth of ships.

It is an incredibly dumb way to spend money. Nothing changed today on that front. Yesterday it would be the smart move to sell off all the ships. Same with a month ago. Same with a year ago.

Just go to go the sc_trades sub reddit. Look how there are literally hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars worth of trades every single month. Either they are lying by boosting trades or there is a literal monetary market for ships and the speculative rise around them.
