The "Odyssey dropping out of the blue" is a big retcon - we knew 2 years before they were working on something, then found out it was legs 6 month before it was due - then release was delayed 6 months, and consoles were dropped. Now it's not working right 6 months after that. Maybe the two games are similar after all :)

(I much prefer NMS's version where they keep complete radio silence and then it's out)

OTOH I did like some of the 'this is how you design a game' stuff yesterday - wish we had more of that for EDO, rather than the marketing spiel we got as 'Dev Diaries'. Not that anyone will care what the design process was once it drops :)

I'm not sure there's any evidence for moving away from fakery, if they are still doing it. It's just less obvious I think, because it wasn't "live" (as much as it ever was).
It was certainly a lighter demo than before and I can see them really just having this developed and showing it off. We know they've been working on Pyro for some time and cloud tech too, aswell as the outposts.
 
Since server meshing seems to be the hold-up has there been any talk about just switching the PU over to Pyro rather than Stanton? Still just one system, so no meshing required.

After all, the game is an Alpha and seeing Pyro fleshed out might have been fun - assuming it is as finished as the demo. (Plus wasn't there another planet already finished and moved over, or was that to Nyx, I forget ...)

Just one teeny weensey tiny problem. Pyro isn't ready. Its still in pre-production. There are no secret dev build with new systems just waiting for server meshing.

FUDster! Did you not see the demo!

It's not like Stanton was finished when it was first in the PU - if that really was a demo in Pyro then starting with Pyro 3 and getting the other locations added might have been fun. Seems most of the actual players agree with you and it's probably not that close to ready, so I bow to their/your ... actual knowledge :)

They did say that they wont release Pyro unfinished like Stanton, when they do release it, it will be the full System.

Quite a way, but you have to remember - Stanton took this long because of the Landing Zones. Orison, New Babbage, Area 18, Hurston. Most Systems dont have that many. Pyro only really has a single one, and thats not even a "landing zone" just a major station called ruin station.
 
One thing that is funny is how many backers were saying CIG needed to do more grounded realistic citizencons. Less fluff. Less sandworms.

The visuals in Pyro were beautiful. Flying through the clouds, standing in the golden prairie staring at the mountains in the distance with the fluffy clouds and the blue sky, the quaint little town with stone buildings and the rusty steel and the colorful textiles. Very nice.
I have to say this demo of Starfield looks really nice! Much better visuals than in Fallout 4, but that's expected given that FO4 was released whopping 5 years ago!
One question though: where are the stars in there? What is it, a Skyrim 2077?

Its really amazing how little you can achieve with hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of employees.

They of course could do that, or an even simpler solution: Implement jump gates, but if you enter one, disconnect yourself from the server (loading screen) and load into Pyro with your ship! Solved your meshing problem, Chris. When do I get paid?
What FUDstery is this?! SC can haz no loading screens, it's not to Chris standards! You are fired! (No, seriously, just search this thread for "loading screen", it's a meme on par with Server Meshing. You are still fired!)

"And now that pipelines are in place, CI-G will pump out one new planet each month" - somewhere from 2018, don't remember more precisely, too many years have passed. Have you seen any of those 30+ planets, Ebob?

"Any of those" Well sure I have! A few planets in Pyro, a few in Nyx. Not anywhere near 30 but I have seen a few of them!
 
It's an EDO settlement, with handcrafted assets, with ladders instead of jump-packs. Am I wrong?
The AI is far worse in the demo - if you killed an NPC with another right next to it in EDO they wouldn't just stand waiting for the next shot. In previous SC vids I always assumed the AI was being shown to laugh at how bad it was (and that normally it was better) ... but this was a CiG demo ...

Mike agrees about the AI :D

He also points out the cutting tool, from 2017 (?) citcon that never appeared, isn't on the roadmap, but is in this Pyro demo.

Changed clothes so they don't trigger the AI lol. Mike: "this is so fake" :)

Actually the cutting tool works if you use it for boarding ships, its rudimentary, you don't use it to cut hinges but instead it causes damage to the ships door or docking hatch giving you access.

Something you can't do in EDO.
