The 5 Dlc Challange

As you guys proppaly allready have hear of, Dlc slots 8-12 have been leaked, giving alot of credit to the assumption of atleast 5 more dlc, aka for the current format something in between 20 and 35 Habitat animals. I wanna ask you guys, how you would choose the final dlc, and what you would like to do with it?

First of for christmas, i would start with an aviary dlc, ending 8 new habitat birds into the game. My choices to reflect a bunch of different sizes, taxonomic groups, colors, biomes and atleast one for each continent would be:
  • Bald eagle (large, eagle, aquatic and temperate, north america)
  • Bearded vulture (large, vulture, alpine, europe africa and asia)
  • Scarlet macaw (large, parrot, tropical rainforests and graslands, america)
  • Kookaburra (mid, king fisher, desert and grassland, australia)
  • Snowy owl (mid, owl, tundra, northamerica and eurasia)
  • White-cheeked turaco (mid, turaco, grassland and alpine, africa)
  • Scarlet ibis (mid, ibis/waterfowl in general, tropical and aquatic, americas)
  • Bali Mynah (small, Songbird, tropical, asia)

Afterwards, i would like to see an europe dlc in spring as a scenery pack, featuring one of europes many different building styles and for animals the red deer (pretty much the most culturally iconic european animal, the royality of the woods), eurasian lynx (super common in zoos, small cat and a very flexible animal), red fox (same as the lynx, just as a canid, also extra value for crossing over into north america) and the wild boar (one of the most common animals in small zoos, also the largest swine and quite the menacing black death, with nothing comparable in the game). You might ask yourself "why no alpine ibex?!" but we will answer that question later. For the exhibit i would add the european viper, fire salamander or my personal favorite, the european stag beetle, which will be used for statistics at the end.

For summer, you might already have heard that one, because i have been quite vocal about it, i want an oceania animal pack, as i feel like it would be the perfect fit for the summer and to flesh out that region one and for all. It would feature two animals per island with quite the diverse biomes, as we have the tropical new guinea, the hot and dry australia and the temperate tasmania and new zealand.
For the animals i would add the greater bird of paradise and the short beaked echidna, for tasmania the bennets wallaby and the tasmanian devil, new zealand the kiwi and the tuatara as the exhibit and lastly for mainland australia the emu and one of the sulphur creested cockatoo, rainbow lorikeet, budgerie or the galah.
This would not only add some more aviary animals, but also fill out oceania to a fullfilling degree.

Originally, i wanted a 4+1 himalayan dlc for the second scenery pack, as i am a sucker for tibetian and nepalian architecture, but that kinda got crossed out, because without the snowleopard a himalayan pack would simply have no staying power, even though i would have loved to see 4 of the domestic yak, himalayan thar, palas cat, takin and himalayan monal here.
So instead, i think a petting zoo pack would do a great job, providing a general small zoo/barnyard theme, aswell as domestic animals from all around the world in for of the kuneku pig from new zealand, scottish highland cattle from europe, african dwarf goat from well africa and the domestic donkey, featuring basically everywhere and being of strong cultural improtance all around the world, be it in christian culture, european folklore, antic mythologies from rome to eghypt, mexican culture or even as the animal of the democrats in america. It would be a great headliner for such a pack, as they are found all around the world and are a joy for pretty much everybody that has interacted with them. For the exhibit i would add the corn snake, for some american representation and their link to farms and aggriculture.

Lastly, i want to propse a pack, that could be a satisfying pack, rounding out one of the games biomes or the start of way more biome pack, an alpine pack.
This would leave the opportunity for more packs in the future, as i have let out quite a few popular species that could headline their own dlc, without taking away from the roster if these would be the five final ones.
Anyways, headlining the animal we have the anden condor, being left out from the aviary pack to stand on his own as the flagship of this pack. Following him we have the domestic yak, as another domestic animal and bovine from asia, the alpine ibex, one of the most wanted alpine animals for the game, spectacle bear, coming down from the anden as my personal favorite bear and quite the unique look and taxonomic history, alpine marmot, for more rodents and the nice mix with the ibex, himalayan monal as a colorful bird to change up all these rather grey and blackish animals and lastly the barbary macacque and the berber toad for the exhibit.
This way we have 2 animals each from the Anden, Alps, Atlasmountains and Himalaya, featuring four of the most iconic mountain ranges and adding all kinds of animals, featuring a pheasant, one of the most common monkeys in zoos, the most taxonomicly distinct bear, a rodent, a domestic bovine, the most requested caprid and our maybe last flying bird, being quite the banger if i might say so.

So thats it, thats my list, but for some fun, i thought to add some statistics.
Before adding these 30 habitat and 5 exhibit animals, 116 animals are in the game, 29 exhibit animals and 87 habitat animals.
Afterwards it will be 141 animals, with 34 exhibit and 107 habitat animals.

Right now we have:
38 African, 33 Asian, 30 Northamerican, 22 Southamerican, 9 Oceanian and 8 European Animals (taken from the wiki)
5 Amphibeans, 6 Birds, 13 Invertebrate, 19 Reptiles and 73 Mammals.

After these packs we have:
45 African, 42 Asian, 37 Northamerican, 26 Southamerican, 19 Oceanian and 20 European Animals.
6 Amphibeans (which are still all frogs lol), 20 Birds (atleast 11 aviary), 14 Invertebrates, 21 Reptiles and 89 Mammals, with now 5 Marsupials and 1 Monotreme.

So thats it! Thats how i would do it and i hope that this would just be the start for a bunch on biome packs, bringing with them some favorites i needed to leave out like the Takin, racoon, capybara or small monkeys. But what do you guys think? Would you be happy with these 5 final packs? What would you change or do you have completly different idears all together?
Cant wait to hear you alls opinions on this ^^

First of all I would like to not call it the final 5 DLCs because I hope (of course it is probably more a wishing but I would not say it is hopeless) that we get further Packs (animals without updates perhaps) if selling numbers stay high enough for Frontier.
But given that we will get 5 more DLC I hope for Europe pack or eurasian animal pack, birds pack (I do not care so much about birds but I know a lot of others are doing) and then three biome Packs (perhaps desert, tropical/rain forest and the third einer Taiga/Tundra or Savannah which I hope are also animal packs). These packs should give us the highly requested animals (capybara, leopard, lynx,...) plus some surprises which are not so high on the Meta list but very beautiful or unique in my opinion (some antilopes like the black buck, the dik dik or the generuk for example).

Well your list sure is original. And well thought out with all this statistic. I'll go down a little more beaten down path, as I'm afraid we're still missing some staples:

First in DLC comes Aviary pack: I have no idea how would it look if it comes at all. It can't be plain animal pack because we need a lot of accompanying pieces.

It's can't be classical model, cause if you're giving us 4 birds, why include them at all?

So am gonna pretend as if we're getting 8+scenery pack:

1. Blue and Gold Macaw
2. Scarlet Macaw
3. Kookaburra
4. Toco Toucan
5. Bald Eagle
6. Eurasian Eagle Owl
7. Andean Condor
8. Bearded Vulture

Tbh even this isn't much but better than nothing

Aight NEXT

European scenery pack:
We're getting some classic zoo props plus European architectural style of choice, don't care that much really. Animals as follows

1. Alpine Ibex
2. Wolverine
3. Red Deer
4. Dalmatian Pelican
5. Fire Salamander ( E )

After that we would be done with scenery in my mind, everyone else is free to disagree, and all missing foliage and pieces would be provided by accompanying free updates. Therefore last three packs would be animal ones. Starting with:

Desert pack:
1. Dromedary Camel
2. Emu
3. Caracal
4. Peccary
5. Striped Hyena
6. Crested Porcupine
7. Coati
8. Thorny Devil ( E )

Onto the Tropical ? Pack:
1. Capybara
2. Fossa
3. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
4. De Brazza Monkey
5. Maned Wolf
6. Howler Monkey
7. Red River Hog
8. Plumed Basilisk ( E )

And finishing off with Endangered Species pack:
1. Iberian Lynx
2. Przewalski Wild Horse
3. Scimitar Horned Oryx
4. Tasmanian Devil
5. Lar Gibbon
6. Coquerels Sifakka
7. Amur Leopard
8. Axolotl ( E )

I'll give it a try.

So, flying was leaked: that means an aviary pack of some sort, right? I guess I'd do a standard animal pack, because we have the pieces to build aviaries (we'd just need a special barrier or something. Maybe a null option for it?)
  1. Laughing kookaburra - kinda cliche, but they are found in many zoos
  2. Greater hornbill - a toucan lookalike. Very large. I've only seen them in aviaries but they seem to kinda hang out near the ground
  3. Victoria crowned pigeon - a nice, blue bird that I've only seen in aviaries despite it's ground-dwelling nature
  4. Scarlet macaw - a must have, honestly. No point arguing a macaw, and I think this particular species wins
  5. Bald eagle - honestly I almost left this out because they aren't found in enclosed areas here in the US; there's always an opening for them to "escape", even though the exhibit is designed where they can't. I'm wondering how Frontier will do these...
  6. Scarlet ibis - yes, they are mostly ground dwellers, but I've only seen them in aviaries
  7. Toco toucan - a nice, alternate option to the hornbill
  8. Harpy eagle - a powerful bird-of-prey

Next up, for the spring DLC, I'd go with Asia. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if we get an additional slot for some aviary animal, so keep that in mind:
  1. Siberian musk deer - I mean, why not?
  2. Pére David's deer - a true deer. Would be great to have
  3. Przewalski's wild horse - an endangered horse, and I believe the last true wold horse
  4. Yak - who wouldn't wanna have a yak. Yak yak yak
  5. Asian small-clawed otter - the one and only that the majority of the community is dying for
  6. Lion-tailed macaque - another monkey, since the game lacks monkeys
  7. Golden pheasant - a beautiful blue and gold bird
  8. Reticulated python (E) - a large snake, the longest snake in existence
  9. Indian flying fox (A) - the largest flying mammal, I believe. Very smelly, but cute

For summer, I'll go with Konig and throw in Oceania animal pack, as well:
  1. Tasmanian devil - asked for. A carnivorous marsupial. Endangered
  2. Common wombat - cute, a small animal
  3. Emu - Australia's large bird that many want
  4. Yellow-footed rock wallaby - a 2nd member of the kangaroos would be nice
  5. Echidna - any species is good. A cool monotreme to have
  6. Platypus - it's a semi-aquatic, egg-laying mammal of action. He's Perry-y-y. Perry the platypus...
  7. Quokka - it was hard finding a final member to add. I think the happy quokka will make us all smile
  8. Frilled lizard (E) - I like these guys, although I would've preferred a thorny devil
  9. Kiwi (A) - our aviary animal is the elusive kiwi, found only in New Zealand. @NZFanatic, are these named after tbe fruit or is the fruit named after them or is it coincidence?
For fall, a standard DLC for Europe:
  1. Red deer - highly requested by the European players. But I want it too
  2. Red fox - a beautiful, rusty red color. Many color mutations
  3. Wild boar - an animal built for fighting
  4. Lynx - any species will do and give us a small cat
  5. Fire salamander (E) - our 1st salamander in-game
  6. Barn owl (A) - a screechy owl found all over the world
And finally, the New World DLC. I'm excluding the capybara because of the leak:
  1. Wolverine - highly requested. Can represent NA and Europe and Asia nicely
  2. Bighorn sheep - a wild sheep from the NA deserts
  3. Greater rhea - South America's large, flightless bird
  4. Maned wolf - the final canine we all want
  5. Coypu (Nutria rat) - a small, semi-aquatic rodent that became a pest in US. It was farmed for its fur, I believe
  6. Black howler monkey - a loud monkey we all want
  7. Ocelot - a small, jaguar-like cat. Beautiful fur
  8. Green anaconda (E) - the largest snake to ever live
  9. Andean condor (A) - a large and endangered bird

The fruit originated in China and was named after the bird. But kiwis are flightless and wouldn't need an aviary. 😅
True. Just I can't see them as an animal that'd be out in the open, due to their shyness and being flightless. I see them as being in a safe, enclosed area. Maybe not an aviary specifically; more like an enclosed room with glass, but still, I wanted to include them.

And that's interesting, about thr fruit

They're always kept in nocturnal houses, but then again, Nile monitors are almost always kept in reptile houses, and there are a bunch of typically nocturnal species in the game. Making the kiwi anything other than a habitat animal wouldn't be doing it justice, I think.

I will admit, I love the technical appeal of including birds that can work in-game without flying. It'd ultimately be storks, waterfowl, penguins, and possibly a roadrunner, but it could work.

So this is my dream lineup for the next 5 packs. I’ve gone with the Birds pack next and have added 2 birds to each of the following packs. With 3 animals packs (8 + 2 birds) and a scenery pack (5 + 2 birds).

December - Birds

An introduction to birds opens with a whopping 16 new species. This would be more of an expansion pack rather than DLC. Going for $20USD instead of $10. With a mix of birds of prey, parrots and smaller birds as well as a flying mammal and some flightless birds. It would come with a free update including basic aviary pieces to allow for people who don’t purchase this pack still be able to house future birds that I’ve included in the next 4 packs.
  • Emu
  • Kiwi
  • Golden pheasant
  • Grey crowned crane
  • Bald eagle
  • Scarlett macaw
  • Secretary bird
  • Bird of paradise
  • Great horned owl
  • Stellars Sea Eagle
  • Rainbow lorikeet
  • Hummingbird
  • Flying fox
  • Gouldian Finch
  • Bee-eater
  • Fischer’s Lovebird
March - Europe Scenery
  • Eurasian Lynx
  • European Badger
  • Red Deer
  • Red Fox
  • European pond turtle (E)
  • Common Buzzard (B)
  • Mallard duck (B)
June - Oceania AP
  • Platypus
  • Wombat
  • Echidna
  • Tree Kangaroo (either Goodfellows or Matschie)
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • New Zealand Fur Seal
  • Lace Monitor (ability to climb trees unlike Nile monitor)
  • Frilled neck lizard (E)
  • Kookaburra (B)
  • Sulphur crested cockatoo (B)
September - South America AP
  • Capybara
  • Maned wolf
  • Spectacled bear
  • Two-toed Sloth
  • Howler monkey
  • Collared peccary
  • Ocelot
  • Green anole(E)
  • Toucan (B)
  • C*ck-of-the-rock (B)
December - Endangered AP

  • White-cheeked Spider Monkey
  • Przewalski’s Horse
  • Red Wolf

  • Kakapo (B)
  • Californian Condor (B)
I’ve cheated and added a Wildcard/6th pack
Petting Zoo Animal Pack (updated from a previous thread)
  • Cameroon Sheep
  • West African Dwarf Goat
  • Eastern Grey Kangaroo
  • Shetland pony
  • Dromedary camel
  • Fallow Deer
  • Vietnamese pot bellied pig
  • Australian Green Tree Frog (E)
  • Rhode Island Red Chicken (B)
  • Barn Owl (B)

I think that most of the upcoming packs will be animal packs, as we have themed scenery from most regions while many animals are still on the list.

Aviary/Birds DLC:
I think the first upcoming DLC will be birds. Hopefully they will add the flying mechanic to the new game (as well as a construction mechanic for aviaries) and have flying birds in the DLC. If it comes with the anniversary, there may even be a chance of having more than 7 habitat animals, but assuming they stick with the old sytem, my list would be:
1. Andean condor
2. Griffon vulture
3. Blue-and-yellow macaw
4. Toco toucan
5. Great Indian hornbill
6. Eurasian eagle owl
7. Great bird of paradise
In addition there should be some smaller aviary exhibits for animals such as budgerigar and kookaburra. Since exhibits are 4x4m, this would be similar to most real life aviaries for smaller birds. In case we get more than 7 habitat animals, my preferences for the additions would be:
8. Bald eagle
9. Hamerkop
10. Palm cockatoo
11. Scarlet ibis
12. King vulture

Oceanian Animal DLC:
While I personally don't really feel the need for this, Oceania is the most popular continent if we go by the META-wishlist. 5 Oceanian animals are in the top 20 (Tasmanian devil, platypus, wombat, tree kangaroo, emu). Add to these species a kiwi and one other animal and we have a cool pack with high demand animals. The only concern with this pack would be the lack of a big signature animal like the rhino or moose, but I think this will be a general issue with any proposed DLC. For animals, I would pick the following:
1. Tasmanian devil
2. Emu
3. Platypus
4. Goodfellows' tree kangaroo
5. Northern Island brown kiwi
6. Common wombat
7. Bennett's Wallaby
8. Tuatara (exhibit)

Eurasian Animal DLC:
There is high demand for European animals, but I can't think of any scenery for Europe that we don't have already. Modern tile walls would be an option off course (and highly needed), but this is not particularly European. At the same time, there are not that many distinct European species for an animal pack, which would probably be filled with at least five ungulates if we go by popular demand. Therefore, I think a Eurasian animal DLC makes sense with the following animals:
1. Alpine ibex
2. Red deer
3. Eurasian lynx
4. Dalmatian pelican
5. Przewalski's horse
6. Wolverine
7. Mute swan
8. Fire salamander (Exhibit)

Tropical DLC:
I'm tied between this and a desert theme, but I think there is more demand for tropical animals. While an animal DLC would be great, I also wouldn't mind a pack with scenery and new foliage as long as the following animals are in:
1. Capybara
2. Asian small-clawed otter
3. Lar gibbon
4. Brown-throated three-toed sloth
For exhibit species, a helmeted basilisk or reticulated python would be amazing.

Aquarium DLC:
For the final pack, I hope there will be a pack with animals that live predominantly under water. Due to the low number of animals per pack, I expect only saltwater species. If we assume 7 species, I would love to see a pack with:
1. Green sea turtle
2. West-Indian manatee
3. Black-tip reef Shark
4. Manta ray
5. Humphead wrasse
6. Great barracuda
7. Ocean sunfish
In addition there should be a new mechanism to allow for the inclusion of small fish in bigger tanks and some exhibit species such as green moray eel, pacific octopus, leafy sea dragon, lionfish. If we get more animals (again, anniversary here), my choices would be:
8. Leopard shark
9. Spotted eagle ray
10. Bluefin tuna
11. Mahi-mahi
12. Spotted wobbegong

The leak of flying birds was apparently a misinterpretation. While aviary birds are something I desperately want, it feels hard to do the concept justice with even 8 or 10 birds. So for my hypothetical, I'll be skipping the aviary concept--instead, habitat-friendly birds get an animal pack.

I'm noticing a pattern: more birds. Animal packs.

The only problem with having animal packs as the next 5 DLC: many players will complain about the lack of "building pieces"

(Although, in our defense: the 1st 4 DLC have had many building pieces, so...)

I honestly think aviaries and aquaria are going to be Planet Zoo 2.0. Now whether that's a massive update/expansion or a sequel, not sure.

Based on the current mechanics of the game, we could get
  • wading birds (storks, herons, cranes)
  • waterfowl (ducks, geese, swans)
  • ratites (rheas, emus)
  • penguins (emperor, rockhopper, blue)
  • kakapo or takahe

There are others, obviously, like it could be possible to add Atlantic puffins if the game treats them as flightless, but I digress.

Anything that flies is going to be different. Forgetting all the behind-the-scenes coding issues to add flying animals, we've so far never gotten more than 8 animals in any dlc pack. Even with the presumption that any hypothetical Aviary Pack forgoes an exhibit animal, it's basically objectively impossible to include anything approaching a decent sample size. Between birds of prey, parrots, songbirds, waterfowl, seabirds, etc, to say nothing of bats, whatever 8 animals they'd pick would invariably polarize or alienate players.

Unless of course they add birds as solely exhibit animals - which I wouldn't prefer, but it could actually fit the game mechanics - then I could potentially see a pure exhibits pack having more than 8 species but would mostly just be non-animated (mostly) tropical birds sitting on perches.

You know what's keeping my interest in this game? Hopes that we will get aviaries and aquariums to make our zoos ACTUALLY look realistic.

IF they are never coming, I would love to know now so I can just put this game away until then 👍 That would be such a cash grab, just implement flying into this game, we already have diving....

It actually wouldn't be a cash grab.

Your assumption that birds and bats would sell games isn't wrong, it's just that the backend costs of coding all that would be expensive. And I maintain my point that that level of coding is all but stupid unless they release at least 20 or more animals.

At that point, it'd be the largest dlc pack to date, which means it'd probably be like 40USD (guessing). There'd be new build objects, aviary stuff.

It doesn't have to be Planet Zoo 2, I'd prefer expansion to sequel, but I definitely see it as being a huge development.
