Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I'll say this for the last Citizencon.

CR was suspiciously mooted, perhaps @Mole HD was right in his assessment that CR is being sidelined, there was also a lot of "what CR wanted but........."
I think it is clear by now. He got bored once the biggest source of dopamine (handwavium) started losing its appeal and financial trouble arrived. Many people noticed how he became less and less of a public person right after the Calder's investment. The cycle is going to take longer than with Freelancer but ultimately it will revolve to completion.

Anyway, forget about large scale battles and single shard universe. It will turn into a prettier, smaller scale EDO with more seamless gameplay and ship interiors. Whether it will have any kind of background simulation, we will see. Tony Z's history of non-delivery suggests he would have to be sidelined as well, providing space to people who could implement something more grounded than his simulation, but at least integrated with the rest of the backend.

And who knows, maybe Squadron 42 won't turn out to be vapourware.

CIG altered the deal. Pray they don't alter it any further.

And...

LOL.... so this guy thinks people working on it are not taking resources from the company? Its internal man hours and costs for CIG employees and external costs for Firesprite employees. There is absoloutely a drain.
It's only backers money, they'll never know.

Mole needs to listen away now:

If you spend cash and have your staff develop game things the there is english word I cant remember but it's kinda working capital. You take liquid asset and transform it into different asset in balance sheet.
So you think the conversion of liquid assets to intangibles (THAT is the word, no? It sound like its pants are gonna fly off any second) is at a rate of 0.8. Other guy thinks it is net gain and conversion rate is 2.4.

When they announced "TOW" and said it was being delivered in house as a kind of gold plated vanity project for their in house devs and that it wouldn't require any resources, time or budget, it made me laugh. Like they were just assuming none of their backers worked on any sort of IT projects and might have even the basic experience to know that "work" is always "work" no matter what you try to identify or label it as. They were also basically saying that CIG, the company that doesn't make finished games had found some way to make games without actually doing any work on them.

Another thing that made me laugh about it was when the dev whose baby it is claimed that he created it because Star Citizen wasn't really focused on "fun" and he wanted to work on something "fun".

Ahahahaha, that was always going to be a problem, and demonstrates how badly thought-out CIG's pay-to-win mechanics were!

EDIT: This was just with gear, let alone ships without insurance (I'm assuming that purchased ships w/o LTI are vulnerable unless things have changed!).
I remember my first run in with Star Citizen and it was a load of babbling about LTI and no one could really explain what LTI was and how it would be used in practice.

It puzzled me how they would consistently misspell "Conserge".

Amazingly enough, many backers actually swallowed the tripe CIG were offering.

CitizenCon showed off some pretty new Star Citizen clouds, but not much else

£211 for something that isn't actually in-game yet. Cloud Imperium have previously been in hot water with the Advertising Standards Agency for not making these sorts of microtransactions clear before too.

Erm? technically sort of true but also not true, i have one, in game, and i don't even own it

Its in the PTU for Evocati testers because its not quite ready and needs, testing.... not everyone has access to the PTU at this point, tho its no longer under NDA and the first wave of none Evocati have the build, if i leave it parked somewhere and unlock it anyone can use it.

It will be released, to everyone who owns it with and when 3.15 goes live, at which point i will lose access to it because i didn't buy it, its very very nice, but from a practical point of view.... its not as good as my MSR.

I may buy it at a later date with in game currency.

So what does it cost to be "Evocati" "tester"?

Interesting wee thread :)

He kinda dodged the homestead aspect of that question though. If they ever get round to actually implementing player owned bases, will those things follow you between shards like your other possessions? Or be added to a global database and exist everywhere? (Honestly it'd make sense if they only existed on whatever shard you're on, like your ships etc. No issues with it being attacked elsewhere, easier to do etc. Just leaves any friends on a different shard hanging if they're authorised to spawn there, or are expecting to see it etc.)

Good luck to them with the 'tied to one shard thing' though. The static system implies that if you head to a busy Jump Town style scenario you’re gonna hit the local server cap. And then the only place to go is another shard with capacity at that location. (Regardless of how many players a shard can sustain in total.)

And the 'dynamic' system, which might solve that in theory,… is nuts ;)

It’s kinda dubious that they keep suggesting that end goal is a likely scenario. But so it goes…
