It's true, even as a scummy student. Possibly because Spitting Steve used to eat and spit them around the place.
So in fairness, it's not the pie's fault, but I may have also consumed some of Steve's.

Single serving frozen "Pot Pies" here come in two varieties:
1 - Low end: Typically with top crust only, but not always. Only available in Beef, Chicken and sometimes Turkey. Usually less than $1.00/ea (USD) and sometimes 2 or 3 for $1.00 (USD). The box pictures lie, a little bit, regarding the amount of filling.
2 - High End - Top and bottom crust, larger size, better quality and more variety. Starting at $2.50/ea but typically around $3.50/ea.

If I'm honest they all look pretty terrible and artificial looking.
I'll add that I know the pictures are not representative of the end result but they hardly make them look appetising.

And...flaky suggests puff pastry- I'm seeing shortcrust there.
