Ships let's findout how to engineer the fastest mid-range ship

o7 elite cmdrs,
I am trying to build the "best" diamondback explorer. It will be for exploring but it will be engineered to be fast acceleration
i would like some ideas on maybe a 4B thruster or your ideas and or a 4A fsd.
might think about egineering a wide angle sensors and a fast charge fsd...

any other engineering mods ideas...
it will carry a planet vehicle and a fuel scoop..
it may or may not have lasers... any ideas to make this a mid-range ...

what is its max travel distance then refueling?

You don't need lasers on an explorer, other than maybe a mining laser. If you want the fastest thrusters and max possible jump range, then you need A4 thrusters and 5A FSD, engineered for Dirty/Drags and Increased Range/Mass manager respectively (fast charge does nothing for exploring). A 4A Power Distributer with Engine Focused will also help for maximum boosting. You don't need Wide Angle sensor, if anything you want to lightweight those (though even that doesn't make much difference on DBX).

Throw a 4H Guardian FSD booster on there for more range, and you'll still have room/power left over for some additional utilities. Like this.

I like the build, boss.

OP - don't forget to light weight the sensors

I went lighter on mine, and I'm using the double engineered FSD with mass manger. It's a two edged sword though, it won't be as speedy as Hawk's

No DSS on your explorers?

OP, what do you want to use it for? Imo, jump range is overrated for explorers.
Yeah, in the DBX the limit on travelling quickly is the scoop size moreso than the range.

... that said, there is one thing I'm curious about - does scoop size affect the time taken to supercharge the FSD, or is it fixed?

Explorer with B drives?
Nah.
For an explorer you need to D rate everything except for FSD and the Power Plant

Learn how to use Coriolis and how to "build" ships
Since you are new on the forums i would assume you dont have any engineering

So, it will look something like this

Scoop size and rating directly affects total scoop time. The DBX all ready has an issue that the emptier the tank, the more pronounced the time hits you in the face.

It isn't a big deal when jumping near star to near star, and you get used to it, but it's the biggest complaint about the DBX.

I didn't ask about its affect on scooping, I asked about its affect on supercharging.

I think it's fixed
Or i never felt a difference between the dbx scooping supercharging and the conda scooping supercharging... well except for the fact that dbx is way shakier in the cone

Darn good question.

Time to supercharge changes depending on angle and speed, or at least it seems to in my anecdotal evidence. I've never paid attention if my Cutter and my DBX supercharge in the same time. Fascinating.

Supercharged jumps damage your FSD, so you'll need an AFMU.
IMO, getting there fast is not very important when exploring. When you get to the area you want to explore, you'll be making eco-jumps anyway.

Therefore, it depends on how you're going to use the DBX.

This does the job quite reliably, including Open. DC is a must, ofc. The FSD is an Engineered V1 actually and it jumps 76ly whatever Coriolis says. For real exploring, consider a Phantom though.

O7,
🙃

B-rated thrusters are heavy, so will reduce your jump range. Go for D-rated if you want more jump, or A-rated if you want more normal space speed.

Fast charge doesn't do what you might think - it just boots up your FSD quicker when its powered off - it doesn't allow you to jump faster
