The greatest game ever! Thank you!

I need to get this off my chest! Seeing all the hate FDev is getting, I need the people behind this game to hear this! I have been searching for a game like Elite Dangerous for decades! This is THE game for me.
I grew up watching Star Wars and Star Trek, dreaming about traveling to the stars. If I could, I would go to space.
I have looked at and tried many games through the years, but never found a game containing everything I needed. I played Millennium and Gravity Force on the Amiga, Starwing/Starfox on the Snes, Halo on the original Xbox and countless others.
About a year ago I was playing The Ur-Quan Masters on my PC, thinking that it was as close to roaming around, exploring the galaxy as I would ever come.
In the beginning of 2021 I watched a youtuber play Subnautica and No Man's Sky. I bought a Xbox One shortly after, wanting to test out those games.
When I was waiting for No Man's Sky to download, I saw ED on Gamepass, and figured I would download that also. The next evening I was starting up the Xbox to test out NMS. I noticed ED had installed and thought I might test that for a couple of minutes first... Haven't gotten around to NMS yet.
This is the game I have wanted to play, ever since the 80ies. I need this game to stay alive for a few more years. Preferably for ever.
I need everyone involved in creating this game, updating this game, writing stories for it, and doing whatever they are doing to keep this game alive, to know that I am forever grateful for the work you have done, are doing, and will do in the future. You have given me the opportunity to play the game of my childhood dreams. For that, I thank you all!

Glad you're enjoying it.

You've been wanting to play a game like this since the 80s?!

You do realise that E: D is a sequel to the seminal Elite, released in 1984. There were two subsequent sequels called Elite: Frontier, and Frontier: First Encounters, released in the 90s. E: D is effectively "Elite 4".

After 1500+ hours in E: D, and 500+ hours in NMS, I'd say that by any objective metric, NMS is the far superior game (especially now), but whatever floats your boat. 🤷‍♀️

Think Han Solo. Trader/smuggler, but also not averse to ground missions, stealing, shutting down places etc.

Please don't. 🤦‍♀️ Han Solo would run to his ship under fire, raising the ramp as he did so, then running through corridors to his cockpit to take off before the Falcon took too many hits. Would be rubbish gameplay apparently.

As far as Odyssey goes, think Fortnite, tacked sideways onto a space game that still needs significant work & hasn't seen any for years. 🤷‍♀️

Regardless, since he's on console, he's still on Horizons.

What if the objective metric is flight model, PVP, ship/equipment modification, or faction warfare?

I have learned about the long history of Elite after discovering ED this year.

I am, however, grateful that I have finally found the game I have been looking for!

I like the flight model in NMS, not that it plays a significant role in the game. 🤷‍♀️

I don't care about any of those things (the fact that PVP & faction warfare is effectively missing is a huge plus in my book). I did say this was what I thought, you can obviously feel differently. :)

In terms of planetary gameplay, variety of things to do, the ability to actually impact & change the environment, and the joined up gameplay mechanics, for me - NMS is objectively better. I have more fun playing NMS than E: D, which is a bit of a slog at times... especially when every activity you might want to partake in is behind a massive grind wall.

I don't mind waiting. Horizons has what I need. I would consider Odyssey a bonus, not a necessity.
I'm on PS4 myself, when Ody was announced and initially released I would have agreed with you.
Given most of the discussion seems to be around the 'legs' aspect.
The main draw however is the atmospheric planets which expands the game incredibly.

the negativity comes from the state of the odyssey expansion, and the direction of the odyssey expansion (and the dubious decisions made in it's design).

You're a horizons player, so I'm not sure what you're defending against, nobody has a problem with horizons, we've all been playing it for years now, happily. o7 CMDR
