I've visited the three crashed Anaconda sites I know of which have cargo racks containing G4 Raw mats. If reports that the Crystalline Shards sites are no more in Odyssey hold up, these are possibly going to be of increased significance for gathering Raw materials in future.*
So how have they changed in Odyssey?
The Bug Killer Anaconda: Located on HIP 16613 1 a, This has been my go-to crashed Anaconda in Horizons. Its cargo racks drop G4 materials (Antimony, Ruthenium, Tellurium) only, though only ever single drops from a cargo rack, and in addition to the cargo racks it has two Comms beacons which drop the same Encoded materials as are to be found at the Jameson Cobra.
The layout and general terrain is not much changed from Horizons. However, the surface texture is now very rough, and that, combined with the currently poor throttle response of the SRV, made it unpleasant to drive over in VR: predictability of movement is important for avoiding nausea in VR.
I did in fact need to gather a fair amount of materials here, and before I was finished I felt that distinctive feeling in the pit of my stomach which tells me it's time to quit before I experience a nausea which might take me weeks to train myself out of again. So not now as keen to use this site as I was in Horizons.
Orrere 2 b: cargo racks only, which occasionally drop more than one mat, but those drops include Zirconium and Tungsten as well as the three G4 mats. In Horizons, the terrain at this site was so hilly that I hated driving on it even in flatscreen. It was best avoided in VR.
In Odyssey, surprise surprise, the terrain has been completely flattened out; however the surface texture is quite rough, and there was the same difficulty driving over it in VR that I had at the Bug Killer site.
Koli Discii C 6: cargo racks as for Orrere 2b. The big disadvantage of this crash site is that it's 90,542 ls out from the arrival star. In Horizons the terrain was pretty undulating, though not as bad as for Orrere 2 b, and I did use it for a while before switching to the Bug Killer.
In Odyssey, the terrain is flat and the surface is also flat, making driving round the site in VR much easier. Once you're there, it's probably the easiest site to farm.
However, although the terrain round the site is also very flat, it is strangely unwilling to allow ships to land on it - not the first time I've seen this in Odyssey. Worse, when I did find a landing spot, I had to log out for what Down to Earth Astronomy refers to as a 'biobreak', and when I logged back in my ship was in midair, had taken a minor amount of hull damage, and I could not land at the same spot or indeed find a landing spot anywhere else round the crashed Anaconda until I relogged again - after which I did find a landing spot.
It's starting to look like the calculation of surfaces is redone differently for every instance, (possibly some kind of rounding problem?), and I'm wondering if the touted Planetary Landing Assist or whatever it's called is in fact a workaround for this.
So which site will I use?
Well, as long as problems with the SRV throttle response persist, I think I would eat the six minutes it takes to fly to Koli Discii C 6,and relog till I can land. However, if the SRV becomes more drivable again, I'll be back giving the Bug Killer another go.
*There are cargo racks with what look like Raw material canisters at the Threat x Irregular Markers site. Sadly, the one time I've visited such a site I ignored them in my search for Push; and I believe they have been generally ignored because they were originally bugged and would not eject their contents, though I understand that's now been fixed. If anyone knows what these racks contain feel free to chip in: it may be that these will be the go-to source for Raws in Odyssey.
