Has team play ever been tested? I now have a fourth seat. It's already impossible to play as three without running into bugs or design errors.

While true, if you missed the patch notes you will not be aware of this. It also doesn't help that they don't use the same icon as they do for ship missions.

Fair enough, but re the icon there's no need for one as they're all team missions.

OP, if anyone in your team has this in their main menu network settings, you're in for disconnects and other issues:

Frontier provides TURN servers as an emergency bandaid, but it's never going to be as reliable as direct-connect.

That does not necessarily mean you use routable ipv6 addresses on your pc's and your router does routing instead of nat

The problem with p2p is not ipv4 or ipv6, it's the NAT, more specifically the restricted NAT types that are usually the most common
You are right, but with ipv6 there is no need for any type of network adress translation, as long our provider fully supports it. Some provider filter icmp packets for security reasons, that could be a problem. But i have no problems reaching a friends and my machine via a third machine which is basicly a webserver and can send icmp packets over the internet.

We can play together, but not leave the planet after a sucesfull mission in the same ship. When everything works, but one part of it failes, the failure has to be in the software we are using and not in our network setup!

Fully agree to your conclusion. And I am certain, that - if testing happens at Frontier - the testers must have had the same experience with blue tunneling and disconnects, too. My experience over the years since 2015 is: If you have no issues, you play alone.

And that's something I want to see in their next Community-Stream: Four team up and do ground mission with fps counter visible.

Nearly every day developer Digital Extremes has a short 1-2 hour stream where one of their CMs simply plays their game (Warframe). Not just their CMs sometimes even senior developers, designers or even senior management.

This includes at times wiping their account and starting over to show off new player experience and how quickly a new player can get into the meat of the game.

I would love to see Frontier do something similar.

Lets bring the person who is responsible for multi-crew out there and have them play a few hours in a public session and deal with it.

Lets bring the person who is responsible for Engineering there and watch them do all steps needed to fully engineer a ship.

Lets bring the person who is responsible for Power Play out there and watch them flip some systems.

The fact that many of the gameplay streams I've watched involve the hosts just using Dev commands to jump around to different systems to look at cool things subtly tells me they don't actually know how to play the game as intended.

What happens if I set IP4 disabled? I have IP6 and dedicated port opened for it (router and ingame).

I disabled IPV6 in windows networking (on my lan interface) as my ISP doesn't support it.

I don't know what happens if you disable IPV4 in the same place, but if it's in use by anything which doesn't support IPV6 on your local LAN (NAS, etc) then I wouldn't disable it.

If you look in the odyssey game folder you'll find this file: AppConfigLocal.xml

Presumably if you set IPv4 to 0 (and IPv6 is 1) then the game will show IPV4 disabled and IPV6 enabled when you run it.

Of course, this file might be generated by the game itself on startup, in which case messing with it would achieve nothing.
 
All these discussions with ipv4 and ipv6 have little relevance.
Just have everyone in the team to take a screenshots from their networking setting as in post #22

Even they do recommend setting port forward in certain scenarios.
And if a Consoler can do a port forward on their routers, i do expect a PC user to be as able.

Now, i dont imply that ED networking is flawless, but most of the time it works.
And while they do employ stun/turn servers, it's better to avoid them by using upnp or portforwarding
 
Lol, you run into such a funny bug and that is the question you can come up with? At least my engineer rants are unique, intelligent and actually talk about substance.
 
Elite is fundamentally a single player game in a shared universe. Mutlicrew is barely functional, it was released and abandoned.

If you're looking for co-op I would suggest Deep Rock Galactic.

Every week the CMs play the game live on stream.
 
I'm sure FD do test it. But they are doing it locally, probably under optimal conditions.

Two scenarios

1) It works fine for them (most of the time)

2) It is as flakey for them as it is for the players, but it has to be shipped anyway, so that's what we get, and probably not much FD can do about it.
 
Would be then on Frontiers side to communicate open and honest with us, and showing in a live stream what is possible and that elite isn't only a single player and also a team player. Showing deep knowledge of Elite Lore and gameplay and acknowledging issues would make the live streams enjoyable and not just a cringe show.

And once again, the easiest counter argument to this is "just because you CAN, doesn't mean you should HAVE TO."
