State of the Game

As always it's pretty hard to interpret all the anecdotes. My best guess is that the emphasis on GPU issues has helped people who were GPU-bound but whose CPU was well above minimum (or even recommended) spec; those who were both GPU-bound and CPU-bound are probably not seeing much improvement.

Those who were not GPU-bound, but were CPU-bound, aren't seeing any improvement at all. (That's me, btw.) The great big Interceptor in the room is the game's poor threading. If they can finally do something about that then they'll be getting somewhere. It's just so puzzling that they haven't seemed to even try. Admittedly it's a large problem that might not show immediate results, and since they must want to show results one can understand why they'd tackle the low hanging fruit first. But because it's a large problem it would have made good sense to start hammering on that ASAP so there would be plenty of time.

After every update I've hoped that the next one would turn the corner but these days I feel more like they've welded the steering column in place.

Finally, something on-topic so that @Rubbernuke doesn't scold me.

+5 (+2 more for the cat...)

finally, a solution to my tv series binging. All of the shows i've ever liked on one cd that lasts forever.

But the burning question: is the seek/read speed fast enough to play Elite Dangerous: Odyssey off of?

You scout hunting shieldless?
Yes, and its frustrating and challenging (see the beginning of the video if you're interested in that, and admittedly not the best kill ratio I've attained at doing it), but not nearly as frustrating as not being able get to the hunt, as the last 8 minutes testifies...though that was its own kind of fun, for a short amount of time...
