Current CG screeches to a halt at Colonia

I hope something gets done about the commodity supply over at Colonia end for the current CG. In a few hours all ports were practically empty, with just a few units left here and there, small and large stations, orbital and planetary.

The CG is only 26% done and the progress has come to a virtual halt over the last few hours as the commodities ran out. Someone at Fdev didn't really think this through, did they? Not sure if Tier 5 is even possible with the supply the way it is.

Hmm sounds like an opportunity to make a profit.

Yea no doubts the CG's will get finished from how it looks now. Maybe barely in the Colonia end, but still. But trust me, the gameplay in Colonia's end currently comprises of waiting at the dock to get the hold full so I can make one delivery an hour. It's just such gameplay that I'll be logging off and go do something that is actually doing something. Other than wait ten minutes for scraps.

It’s going to cost sbout 275M to get the carrier out here. Whoever does it would need to bring about 7000 tons to break even single loading. That doesn’t count the return trip. It will need to be an altruistic impulse or supplement with tritium sales too. I don’t doubt that will happen. But we can put away the cutters and T9s now.

You should probably read up in the current official CG thread (and the last one) - in the current Ian said there is probably enough supply in Colonia over the week, and in the last one we saw that supply ran out after 2 days - and it still completed in 4 (IIRC).

Some people will enjoy the challenge, rather than just mashing A->B until it's done :D

Some interesting things:
  • Will people jump their FC from the bubble so they can end up top 75% in both CGs and get 2 x 6A FSD? Maybe ...
  • Are people hoarding goods on their FC? There were certainly FC around some bases that were very quickly emptied
  • If people do come from the bubble - do you bring enough Tritium to return? Will the CG run that long?

I actually think the majority of complaints will come because both CGs are likely to finish early - anyone who only plays Sundays and rocks up then to find about the FSDs may be making salty posts here 😈

Yea well it's not about smashing buttons - it's about not having anything to smash. Sitting at the dock waiting for a few tons every ten minutes isn't exactly awe-inspiring gameplay.

As if there was a challenge in waiting... if anything, on the contrary. Just mind-numbingly dull.

Not being bored to death is a challenge in Elite comfirmed.

White knights in shambles.

Steam charts in at an all time high.

If there were higher supply in Colonia, you'd be even more bored since it would probably be over already.

I mean, sure, you could also up the required volume then too... then you'd just have two identical CGs with the same circumstances... that sounds more homogenous and boring than two similar CGs with different and unique considerations.

But hey, if Colonia's supply issues aren't your idea of fun, go do Alcor i guess 🤷‍♀️

Im just in it for the FSD- I mean oh no, please dont finish the whole CG Even faster so I can build more wacky ships!

Waiting in a dock and picking up the stock regeneration every ten minutes is the wrong way to go about it. It'll probably work - there is basically enough regeneration over the next six days to finish the CG - but it's obviously not very interesting.

When initial stockpiles ran out last time round - which took a bit longer - I was generally able to pick up 200-400t per run still, by thinking about where supplies might have regenerated more than that. I don't think I'll be able to do that well again this time - more participants draining the markets faster - but I'll still do better than "sit in dock and wait" [1]. The logistics report at https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/logistics/WzEsNjAwMDAwLDYsWzIxLDY4LDM5LDAsMF1d has all the information you need to be smarter about it.

You can also work to boost the regeneration - the Civil Liberty state will almost double the regeneration rate, and most of the supply systems don't have it. So a bit of heavy bounty hunting in one of them today might make hauling easier tomorrow. (Well, the day after tomorrow, 1 day pending)

This is one of the few cases where the Elite Dangerous economy actually does something interesting at a macro level - supplies running out is basically never a possibility in the bubble except in the very immediate systems around a trade CG (and so you have to make an extra jump per round trip, big deal) - but I'll certainly agree that it's only interesting if you actually understand the logistics problem it's setting out, and there's not enough in-game information to really do that. One of the reasons why I tend to argue against "player-driven economy" or "add actual supply-demand production chains" when that gets suggested: it's cool that it can happen occasionally in special circumstances, but imagine this sort of thing happening all the time in the main bubble.

[1] If you are going for the "sit in dock and wait" strategy, do it at Rock in Chrysus - that's got the fastest ten-minute regeneration by a significant margin, and there are big advantages to everyone using the same dock for it because of how the game handles stations at zero supply.
