Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

And as I play 3.15, my hope flares like a volcano in the night. They aren't just SAYING they are doing it; they are DELIVERING IT to my hands so I can validate directly that they are indeed doing it. But I get that it isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's OK. For me? God drat, nothing hits like SC right now, and it's just getting started! There's hope for our gaming future!

"My hope flares like a volcano in the night" - man, that's some beautiful poetry :D

"There's hope for our gaming future!" - yup, and many companies are delivering on it. Maybe one day CIG will contribute to it.

Poetry? You know nothing of volcanoes, Agony Aunt.

So, using Unreal to create assets for SC.... so for CIG. So Unreal is being used for SC (at least ToW), at least for modelling because.... its better than CryEngine for this?

Then why are CIG still creating models in CryEngine? Surely CIG should be hiring more Unreal people for the creation of models?

And there is still the suspicion that ToW is being made on Unreal rather than CryEngine.
UE is a standard in gaming industry. CE was but is not anymore since several years.
So when you have a company that works and will work on mutiple modern projects, it's better to use the tools used by the industry (UE, Maya, Speed tree, etc) and have staff able to use those tools. You have also established workflow in a company, often independant of the projects. So if your artistic workflow and all your artist staff use UE, you stick to UE, even if your final project is in UE, Unity or CE. Prototyping can be done in softwares completly differents from the software used for the final product.

For instance, a long time ago I was prototyping the websites for my customers with Dreamweaver (quick and easy). But even if Dreamweaver was able to create websites, I was only prototyping with it because the code given by this software was awful. Now I don't protoype anymore but the guys I work with use Figma even for a final project done with Bootstraps. They could use Bootstrapstudio to prototype (this software can generate the final website directly from prototype), but Figma is better and quicker for what they need.

CIG doesn't work on multiple projects, only 2 that extensively use CE and only CE. So having staff that know UE for now is not necessary or mandatory. It's better for CIG to have experts in CE. Perhaps they have some guys using UE for prototyping but it's just for that : prototyping.

CIG doesn't work on multiple projects

Funny how that changes depending on the point that is needed. Is it one game when CryTek are taking you to court? Is it two when it needs to be shown they are making more than just one game? Is it 5 when people split out AC, SM, ToW as well? Or is it even more, when you consider the more ephemeral ones like Sataball?

Regarding Dreamweaver, never touched it myself, stuck to writing the code directly.

Pepperoni gameplay wanted!

The funny thing is someone can make a fun joke about this sort of stuff about SC because SC is already very far on the level of details and immersion.
Just replace SC by ED and you have a sad and bitter joke because you can't buy food, you can't transport it by hand and drop it on the floor inside the ship of another player.

2 games : SC + SQ42.
AC, SM and ToW are modules of SC.

I'd laugh at it in either case. The difference being that some people are actually delusional enough to post this sort of stuff about SC because they actually believe it will happen, whereas i can't believe anyone beliving it about ED. CIG have spent years telling backers they will have everything they can imagine, which is literally impossible.

I think the fact that I prefer Outer Wilds to Star Citizen is really bad news for Star Citizen.
You didn't say that you quit SC for OW ONLY because of the wipe, this guy do. Enjoying a broken alpha more than a stable released product is no good news for the released product. Remove the wipes and this guy come back to SC.

He doesn't believe it. It's to imagine for the pleasure of imagining, or a joke.

How do you know?

How do you differentiate one of the faithful being serious and someone making a joke? I can't tell them apart. 🤪

From the original thread where this was posted the poster said the person who wrote that's comment history is all "Hail Roberts"

Yes, so you say that now. Others don't, and i wouldn't put it past you to argue differently if the situation required it..
No, CR and devs say it also. Even some dev at CIG sometime ago take time to say again that ToW will only be a module of SC and not a game on itself. If some guy not related to CIG somewhere said it, it's just a guy somewhere on the web, nothing more.
