To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

I want to play PvP. But combat has been a mess for 6 years since engineering made massive imbalances. And I did the grind for every relevant engineering, so I have it. But it's boring the way it's set up now so I just choose not to partake. I want for the threat range of NPCs to be bigger in general and not have engineering = strong ship easy mode. I also want for there to be a greater variety of viable builds for PvP, so we don't see the same single meta ship for 6 years in a row. A lack of variety is a death sentence for multiplayer competitive games. I play a lot of combat flight sims with PvP, but I don't have an interest to do it in ED due to these reasons.
The funny part is that the engineering shills tried to sell the powercreep as ultimat variety generator.

It is both.

You may not like that it is both, you may want them to be separate, but they are linked at this moment.

If you want change advocate for change, buy denying reality is not a path to change.

I have been 'advocating for change' for 26 pages now. Getting somewhat blue in the face, in fact, considering how utterly tone-deaf some people are. 🤦‍♀️

And it isn't both. It is only both because the gankers and griefers have deemed it to be both.

No it's both because you consent interaction in general and combat is a form of interaction.
It has nothing to do with gankers.

Engineering is the source of 30% of the games problems.

Outfitting is the source of another other 30%, and Engineering.

Peer to Peer is another 30%.

There are three... eh maybe 2.5 glaringly huge problems in the game from which nearly every other problem stems from.

It's both because the team made it both.

Because the team thought (and maybe still thinks) that unrestricted ganking is something players enjoy.

I can't name a single MMO that allows unrestricted ganking. Maybe EVE does? I never played that game, but I don't think it does.

Most MMOs have a battleground-type system for PvP. You queue for it, it's team vs team, you lose nothing for losing and win credits or something for winning. Those games also don't have unrestricted PvP in the regular game world, because that kind of PvP is toxic and chases players away. The last game I can think of with that kind of PvP is Shadowbane, and that's been gone a long time now.

ED already has CQC. That's the game's PvP. Now add a mode like that but we can use our own ships (and get rid of the silly powerups) and I bet it would be popular. Queue for it in the normal game, teams of 3v3 or even 5v5, maybe a 1v1 queue as an option, with victory awarding you some credits or something but losing does nothing detrimental.

I'm up for that.

There may be no perceived need for those who prefer that the only way to play multi-player is in PvP-enabled game modes - opinions on that naturally vary though.
That has very little to do with perception and opinions.
The original statement I replied to was "Which there ought to be an option to turn off, because MANY people don't want that, but still want to play multiplayer."
Those people objectively can play multiplayer as things stand now, therefore that's not a reason to change anything.

While that may be the simplistic understanding of the statement, it's clear from recent posts that the context refers to PvP, or rather the desire to play with other players without being able to be engaged in PvP.

Indeed - however PvP is an unwelcome downside to social play (to some players).

There is already a very small chance of unwanted PvP in Open, and practically zero in PG/Moebius.

Do tell... which multiplayer mode in E: D prevents ganking and/or griefing?
Probably it depends on the player to a certain extent.
For me, virtually every single one of them.
For you, I'm not sure. Maybe PG/Moebius. Just don't start to call people around you psychopaths and you'll be fine I guess.

with a massive increase in community goals systems. Its Ironic that its COMMUNITY GOALS, which are meant to work together towards a goal.
Now that you mention, there was a pretty good CG a couple of weeks ago. The one for the missiles and the phasing multis. Both communities were working together pretty hard, I had like 30 kills within a couple of hours.

I would say you just told more about you than you intended.

Depends where one wants to go - and having to avoid popular places due to the known presence of those who would engage players in PvP isn't an acceptable solution.

Private Groups don't enjoy the unlimited population that Open has - and have to be discovered out of game.

Make Moebius discoverable ingame! That's actually an awesome idea IMO.
As for population, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Open is not exactly a crowded place either.
BTW you don't need to avoid popular places in Open, I can go everywhere in my shieldless Viper4 and I'm still pretty much alive.
