GALNET - 19 NOV 3307 - Neo-Marlinist Forces Gather in Mudhrid

The megaship Steel Majesty has arrived in the Mudhrid system after being taken over by NMLA terrorists.

Its original owning faction, the Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid, has officially reclaimed the vessel. Margrave Corentin Delacroix, the faction’s new military ruler and the son of former Landgrave Arastin Delacroix, announced:

“The Steel Majesty has returned home to fulfil its destiny. Be warned: should any ships attempt to board or attack, all the former crewmembers still onboard will be executed.”

Senior Agent Tanya Ramirez gave a statement on behalf of ACT:

“Unfortunately, we cannot take action while hundreds of innocent people remain captive. But the NMLA’s effort to assemble troops, supporters and resources must not succeed. Having the Steel Majesty as a mobile base will allow them to regroup for a new campaign of terror – especially if they manage to reach Theta Seven before we do.”

A spokesperson for the Epsilon Fornacis Empire Group, which controls the Mudhrid system, claimed:

“The hostages should be considered lost as casualties of war. We are prepared to perform our duty for the Empire once again by destroying the Neo-Marlinist threat.”

Tough situation for sure... but should no other option present itself (and these options must be evaluated before pursuing the ultima ratio) then risking the death of the hostages must be deemed a necessary sacrifice, especially when you consider how many innocent lives only one of those NMLA enzyme bombs already caused and could cause in the future. The needs of the many ultimately outweigh the needs of the few here.

There should at least be investigation into whether rescuing the hostages is feasible before immediately assuming that it's not.

Plus, it's easy for the Imperial faction to write off the Marlinist hostages as casualties when they don't recognize them as their own people. Would the Empire be so fast to declare it not worth it to save them if they were citizens kidnapped directly from Achenar?

The NMLA openly gathering in one place is a very stupid idea for them. They dont have many numbers to fight with so staying underground and building up should be their best option. I'm curious what theyve got up their sleeve that makes them confident enough to resurface so early.

How is there any chance of getting close to a megaship that's holding and threatening hostages at gunpoint?

I imagine the only possible token exchange here would be Theta Seven himself for the dozens/hundreds of hostages. Once NMLA resumes bombing capabilities, that would mean a few million deaths, at least.

From a narrative standpoint it should be difficult, in terms of actual gameplay as it existed yesterday after Steel Majesty bounced into Muhdrid?

Request Docking.

Wasn't much to do there at the time though.

So, NMLA is taking other Neo-Marlinists as hostages and say "plx don't shoot us. we haz hostages."

lol, kay. Send in a squadron of Interdictors and be done with it  Or hey, even better: Let's wait until Theta-7 joins them onboard the Steel Majesty and then blow them all up (y)

The Marlinism Reformation Party took control of the Steel Majesty, then they reformed after the civil war and banned neo marlinism. Ostensibly the crew that was captured are normal Marlinist citizens, not neo-marlinists.

My issue with the Empire on this is how unbelievably readily they write-off human beings. I definitely appreciate the numbers here when it comes to the casualties from the enzyme bombs and the needs of the many certainly reign, but not even a "just in case things go poorly" or a "in spite of our best efforts we may have to..." The first statement from the spokesman about the hostages is that they're history. Wow.
...Sickening.

Hey Epsilon Fornacis Empire Group: I have 201 tons of - er - fresh "biowaste" to dump. This is your castle that I'm currently hovering over, right? Thought so. Cargo scoop open, Number One. Ship's attitude to 90-degrees, Number One. Make it so...

So, Steel Majesty goes boom when enough people try to surround it after the hostages are deemed expendable? Seems like using it as a base after jumping into a hostile system isn't smart so maybe the plan is to take as many Imps as possible with them?

Also, was the last Margrave executed or did he wind up in a cell?

Ideally they drop some confiscated corrosive bombs on it and claim it was an internal explosion of stored munitions. Problem solved. And it was all NMLA's fault.
