One Wonders...

You don't make it clear whether that was to escape from the horrors of Odyssey! What's the advantage of Odyssey out in the black that makes it worth spending £30?
Of course it was to escape from the predicted horrors of Odyssey! I remember how it was when Horizons arrived and was absolutely sure it's not a good idea to stay in the Bubble for the first weeks of Odyssey. Now I keep on lenghtening my trip more and more because I don't think the update is ready enough for me to get back to BGS and other Bubble activities.

However, I really enjoy Odyssey out there. I love the new planet surfaces, non-black skyboxes, Armstrong moments. The views are often breathtaking, I've done more screenshots since May than during almost four years of playing before Odyssey. It's cool to look for space cabbage, to get to them in SRV or on foot.

Is it worth £30? Dunno. For me it was. All money I spend on this game I spend partly for the game itself and partly for FDEV to make them keep working on it. All other space games, both already existing and only announced, are lightyears away from ED in terms of what I consider a good space game. If FDEV turn the lights off, I'm basically screwed. :p

If only that were true. ;)
Well, it is true for some: I don't grind, for example.

I have now funds on my FC to keep it going for a couple of decades, I have my mats almost full and all my ships G5 engineered. All by just playing the way I want, which is inefficient (no min-maxing Cr/hr etc.), as I skip from one activity to another randomly, on the spur of the moment: I think I've done the relogging thing at Jameson's two times (that legendary CG! - shame I had the FC already, so it was only to try a new thing). I have seen Dav's hope once. I have spent a grand total of 30 minutes in Robigo before leaving the place for good.
My inventory in Odyssey is not full to the brim of required materials: I am not running after mats to unlock the engineers, I will unlock the engineers when I will have the mats. The pre-upgraded equipment has worked wonders for me.

I understand that grinding is required for some specific high end combat activities (PvP meta, AX): that is bad, I concur. Everything else is just self inflicted pain, though.

Could the gathering of materials be improved? Yes, I am not saying that gathering materials is good as it is, but in all likelihood I wouldn't notice the difference, simply because grinding is one of the activities I don't deal with.

i have od but have stayed with horizons, many player i know have moved over but im staying as im not realy botherd about base missions a few on line friends dont have od and as we have played to-gether on and off over the the years ill stick with them,no offence to od but think it will come to its own once consules are active.07 all

Maybe it's because I only started playing in October, but after running Horizons only for about a month I picked up Odyssey. I haven't really done any of the Odyssey specific content other than to walk around stations or on a planet and the odd exobiology scan. What I really appreciate is the, to me, noticeably improved lighting (yes I know there are issues with lighting coloring but the effects is what I'm talking about) and even more so I appreciate the UI changes to things like the Galaxy and System map. To me as a new player they just seem more intuitive to use and cleaner looking than the Horizons versions. The only serious negative I've found so far is the antialiasing in Odyssey is complete GARBAGE vs Horizons. It's a shimmery mess.
