Railguns - Fire on release etc

clear to see that players do accept
Absolutely unseeable.
Some people accept, some people don't accept.

Commenting here or liking the comments doen't represent the ultimate "acception".

I didn't accept. That's enough.

(And again, I didn't asked for any pursuation - that's my point and I stay on it. You're free to comment, but don't force your opinion to me.)

you say "players wont accept" when its clear to see that players do accept.
I didn't accept
players do accept
I didn't accept
you realize these two are contradictions right?
Obviously, can't see the (all) players accept, when I, the player, didn't accept.
You went and tried to force your opinion
Didn't I post in Suggestion thread?
Suggestion for developers not for
entirety of all players
?

I understand your position, but I didn't asked for demagogy.

I just can't stand the person who designed railguns as they are present - hold to fire. Sadist? Masochist?
Why not to make it chargable (with damage multiplier) and fire on trigger release like it was made for Guarding Plasma Accelerators?

I can understand we can't get bigger railguns because of great heat generation.
But why there's no gimbaled version, at least?
(same for other unreasonably fixed only weapons)

It's a matter of getting used to.
And it doesnt take much practice to get used to it

And we dont get gimbaled rails due to their nature (read it as "skill weapons" coupled with them being hitscans), they would be really overpowered
It's called balance, i guess... I might be wrong tho.

I don't think you understand basic English at all either that or you do, got caught in a ridiculous hyperbolic statement and are now feigning ignorance.

I've used to Gauss too. Trained alot.
But I didn't feel any fun with it.
So I use it only for specific circumstances, like disable annoying SBC on big ships.

Railgun is not a complete weapon for me now.
Balance? Power draw, heat gen etc.
There's a lot of way to balance.
I hope FDev will revise it some day.

Nah. Learning and ingraining the spool time of rails, and positioning during the spool, is part of what makes them a fun weapon to master.

Hold and release would make them much easier to use and, given they are already one of the most powerful weapons in the game, that would be bad.

Hitscan weaponry needs to be limited in various ways to prevent all combat gravitating towards a boring point'n'click fest at long range. The spool times are already not a very limiting factor once you're used to them. If you're struggling i suspect it's due to an input issue, or because you're trying to hold a target during the spool rather than timing a little flick into it at the right moment.

Well, your next step would be an all rail ship.
Eventually SRB rails, splitting them into primary and secondary trigger to better manage the heat

They can be fun as both secondary / utility weapons or as main weapons (forced against tharg interceptors, but totally optional against anything else)
Anyway, i realize that rails are not for everyone, but that's a good thing because it offers some variance (not so much for the pvp meta, but since this is not a pvp game, we can ignore that)

I understand you, but don't feel the same.
If you don't enjoy using them, don't use them. There are plenty of other guns.

Although honestly the fact that you asked for gimballed versions leads me to suspect you just need more practice with them and your 'dislike' may stem from frustration - it takes time effort to master them. I remember being angry at all the whiffed shots when I was learning too.

Of course there's no moral imperative to git gud with fixed weapons in elite but it is nice that there's a high skill ceiling there for those who want to reach for it, plasmas and rails are unique burst damage weapons that require time to master and that's good. Gimballed multis are perfectly effective for most content though, so you're not kept from engaging with anything in particular barring top level organised PvP.

Nah, thank you. I'll wait until railgun become more fun and acceptable for me.

Well, you do realize that there are people that never used rails or dumbfires or plasmas or charged plasmas or various other weapons because the said weapons do not suit them or their playstyle.

While at the same time there are people that really love rails and they wouldn't accept any changes to them
So, you may have to wait for like... forever?

Morals, use what you like best and ignore the things you dont like.
This will allow everyone to enjoy the toys they like.

I'm realize I'm in the Suggestion thread.
I understand your position, thank you for your time.

Glad you do understand.

So, are you going to suggest to FD to introduce a new weapon to suit your needs instead of asking them to change rails (a very well established weapon type)?

I was made several suggestion and will made, paticipated in some and will participate - all about changes and brand new things.

Do not worry about me.
I'll do my duties when they will require me.

Cheers.

That was on secondary part of suggestion, it wasn't even represented in thread's name.
We have homing missiles or torpedoes, gimbaled and turreted artillery - with great damage, for example.
Just asking for diversity.
Arguably having unique, high-skill hardpoint types as well as auto-aim and homing munitions is diversity. If every weapon type came on a gimbal mount that would reduce texture and increase balancing problems. In order to balance gimballed railguns against existing weapons they'd probably have to be made so weak as to be essentially just a different variety of pulse laser.

Embrace the diversity, learn a unique weapon.

I do love my railvette with fixed huge beams. its a beast and real fun to fly (pve mind )
shame about the convergence though, hitting eagles is a tough job.

FD fix please?
