Newcomer / Intro A Newbie Asks - Broo Tarquin Bugged? (Post 22nd Sept update)

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to Elite, only been playing a month. But I believe this may be a bug? Either that or I'm just a pleb.
I will try to explain to the best of my ability.

I unlocked Broo last night and attempted to modify my laser weapons, and so the headache ensued.
My beam & burst lasers are currently grade 3 (efficient weapon) + experimental mod from The Dweller.
At Broo, I tried to re-modify these weapons to overcharged, however I can only select this particular upgrade once, at which point the "generate modification" button literally disappears. The upgrade remains half way through grade 1 and the description says "you must improve reputation to access higher grades".
I can modify the weapons progressively with different modifications (e.g long range etc) which is how my current reputation with Broo is grade 5. But it still won't let me progressively upgrade my weapons with overcharged.
If I do progressively upgrade my weapons under another modification to grade 3 and switch back to overcharged, it will allow me to access grade 2. Once I generate the grade 2 mod, the "generate modification" button disappears again. I did try and fully upgrade my weapons with another mod and switch to overcharged but for some amazing reason it completely reverts back to only allowing me to access grade 1, and again.... the generate modification button disappears.
Additionally for this upgrade the damage buff is not visible when applying the upgrade, but the increase in thermal load and power draw is. This is also reflected when looking at the weapons directly in outfitting.

This is insanely frustrating and I've expended an enormous amount of materials trying to figure this out.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

I might have experienced a similar issue with weapons upgrade. I had g3 multicannons (plus experimental effects) with one engineer and when I went to try and G5 them with another engineer, I was advised that I had to upgrade all lower level modifications first.

The only way I was able to progress was to save the first g3 cannon at my homebase and fit a new bare cannon to bring to the new engineer to mod it to G5. Obviously I "lost" the materials used to get to G3, but was able to fit it on another ship. And I was able to get to G5 with the second engineer, plus experimental effect.

Now I thought about it later and I should maybe have tried just removing the experimental effect on the G3 first.

Sounds like you simply didn't have enough rep with the new engineer to do G5 upgrades. You have to unlock the grades with each engineer.

Removing the experimental would have done nothing (except you lose the experimental).
