Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I like trains. Railroad Tycoon is a good game in my opinion. Having to catch a train from the starport to the mission givers and shops, i'll pass. Already gets a bit tiring running through the hangar every time.
As I was watching Drew run around the expo venue I realised just how out of scale that place is. Why would the room that contains the weapons and armour be the same size as a football pitch? I get that there are actual ships in some of the spaces, but the rest is just weird.

Because when Server Meshing kicks in it will house 1000s of people at once, you silly.

(I have genuinely heard guys espouse this view ;))

I mean, there's a sort of logic there! What happens with mission givers, that dodgy bloke in the basement, does he speak to just one Commando at a time? Do they stand in line?

Is he even still there? I haven't seen a mission giver in a stream for a long time.

He's finished for the day. He noted he didn't actually get in a ship and fly.

THAT'S how immersive SC is!
Nuts... I only caught the last minute of it, when he was summing his stream. General impression I got was that he was distracted by the same things I got distracted by after my entry into Star Citizen. There is definitely a lot of attention to detail in their assets, which I can appreciate... just not in an Alpha, especially an Alpha that still hasn't even finalized the designs of core technologies.

And I'm not alone in getting so distracted, I didn't even get to fly a ship the first time. :D

The funniest bit for me was that, having not got as far as any of the gameplay, he riffed on ideas for bank heist missions and secrets stashed by players, all because he'd found a working drawer.

No boring fetch quests, go here, deliver that, he beamed. 'The ambition!' he cried.

It's very odd. These movie sets really are the perfect place to let the imagination run wild...

(It was kinda like watching a man sitting in an opulent carriage, imagining how grand the horses must be that pull it...)

But hey, maybe he'll like the gameplay when he actually engages with it ¯\(ツ)/¯. Or find that reality kinda mediocre ;)

Oh dear, Drew has caught citizenitis. What a tragic turn of events. Naturally there is only one remedy. He needs to buy 3 Idrises a day and if that doesn't help he should consult a refund specialist.

Ha.

Here's a question for you. Drew was waxing lyrically about everything being real, ship interiors, no despawning here and reappearing there etc.

What happens with the elevators? I was watching Bognogus a few days ago and I SWEAR he got in a lift, another player was outside and didnt get in in time before the door closed, Bog's door then re-opened, and he was looking out at the same foyer from the other side, with the other player still waiting for a lift.

So ... what in the world?
That's the way the elevators work (or don't work) in SC...there is really only one elevator, no matter which doors you chose to go through they all summon the same elevator.

But that is precisely the core business model of CIG and what they do best. Selling dreams. Dreams can not be beaten, because you can imagine and dream of literally anything. And you will always forgive the reality CIG delivers is crap because of the hope that those dreams (that you paid for and incurred sunk cost for) may come to pass one day, as unrealistic as that may be. And in the case of SC, as unrealistic as their past 10+ years of track record suggests.

Backers welcome another mega whale into the fold.

Because spending $25,000 on spaceships for a game that doesn't exist yet is perfectly good and normal.

Interesting discussion surrounding NVidia cache sizes and improving SC performance etc. I tried adjusting the cache size in the nvidia 3d settings...certainly seems to gain a few fps and seems smoother...not that I had any issues to start with 🤷‍♂️

Good and normal maybe for him...for you and I...not so much. I try not to be too judgmental on what folks spend on SC. Besides being a tad hypocritical in my case, if they enjoy it or gain some pleasure from it...why not? ;)
