Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

As far as i can make out, this meant CIG were just in the black.

Depends. In terms of revenue etc they were in the red:

-$10m for 2019, meaning -$3m net position.

But the investment cash puts them back in the black.

They certainly are burning through every penny they bring in though. Would imagine they’ve found a way to spend 2020’s windfall too…

My point is, no it's certainly not. It requires time from 3D artists, but that can be assigned between projects (as FDEV have multiple projects going on). What prevented FDEV of doing so, was a pure design decision: their game engine is just not built that way because they decided against it.
Hmm. I think we're actually agreeing, but whatever.

No it's not. Even setting aside the stupidity of doing whole planets by hand, CiG really wasted hundreds of millions of $$ on useless features, non-working game engine, constant refactors due to persisting in bad choices. In comparison, FDEV followed a quite straight forward development timeline. They indeed decided that ships would be the "main actor" of their 3D game engine, and changing that now would indeed require a huge rewrite, but deciding otherwise from the start of the project would have not changed the outcome that much, as again, they have semi-competent management and IT project structure which is NOT the case of CiG.
Lets say it otherwise: what we have now delivered from CiG is definitely not worth $400 million. By a large scale factor. Comparisons based on that budget, or the time invested by CiG in this product, should include the huge amount of bad choices, dead ends, dropped code (lots of things have disappeared during all these years..), money siphoning schemes, etc. Which makes most comparisons completely irrelevant as SC is quite unique indeed.
Hmm. I think we're actually agreeing, but whatever.

I hear CR is planning on covering some of their songs as well. But with some slight changes.

How deep is you wallet?
You should be pledging
I started a project (but didn't finish it)
You pledge again
That was so bad I had to click the like button :D

There was a joke once about the Rolling Stones renaming one of their songs for an upcoming tour of Scotland, they retitled it, 'Hey, MacLeod...get off of my ewe.' ;)

He's definitely a Star Citizen tourist...I spent hours watching the global chat during the free-fly with people aghast at working doors and squeaky toys...all the time silently screaming "Don't get in that elevator!"
Ha.

Here's a question for you. Drew was waxing lyrically about everything being real, ship interiors, no despawning here and reappearing there etc.

What happens with the elevators? I was watching Bognogus a few days ago and I SWEAR he got in a lift, another player was outside and didnt get in in time before the door closed, Bog's door then re-opened, and he was looking out at the same foyer from the other side, with the other player still waiting for a lift.

So ... what in the world?

Nuts... I only caught the last minute of it, when he was summing his stream. General impression I got was that he was distracted by the same things I got distracted by after my entry into Star Citizen. There is definitely a lot of attention to detail in their assets, which I can appreciate... just not in an Alpha, especially an Alpha that still hasn't even finalized the designs of core technologies.

And I'm not alone in getting so distracted, I didn't even get to fly a ship the first time. :D

Drew is playing SC currently.

The man really likes trains, it seems.

I like trains. Railroad Tycoon is a good game in my opinion. Having to catch a train from the starport to the mission givers and shops, i'll pass. Already gets a bit tiring running through the hangar every time.
