Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I like trains. Railroad Tycoon is a good game in my opinion. Having to catch a train from the starport to the mission givers and shops, i'll pass. Already gets a bit tiring running through the hangar every time.
RR Tycoon got the scale just right. the later RR sims suffer from transition to 3D and now your trains take a whole longer to traverse the country and thus we get trains with 8 cars only because you have to scale it's not a slog to play. No offense, hardcore simmers.

As I was watching Drew run around the expo venue I realised just how out of scale that place is. Why would the room that contains the weapons and armour be the same size as a football pitch? I get that there are actual ships in some of the spaces, but the rest is just weird.
It's so it looks bombastique from the outside and the casual passer-by imagines how all the space is filled with content to the brim. It befits the pretentious nature of the "chairman".

Avoiding the bugs in Star Citizen is the game :D

Honestly? There's simply not enough by way of engaging gameplay loops to keep Drew interested for long...plenty of ways to entertain yourself if there are a few of you, but I suspect that Drew is looking for more of a solo adventure similar to the way he generally plays ED rather than being thrust into the multiplayer (co-op or adversarial) focused world of SC. Playing solo can have it's moments but SC doesn't really come alive until you're with with a few friends.

I don't have Star Citizen. I didn't think there was any way to play it other than multiplayer?

Welp...since refuelling isn't appearing until next year I've had another reshuffle. I had CCU'd my Redeemer to an Odyssey and had a 400i to Endeavour CCU sitting. The Endeavour was for the loaners, namely a Starfarer and Cutty red but I missed having the Redeemer around but still wanted the Odyssey...so... Melted the 400i to Endeavour CCU then CCU'd the 400i for a Redeemer with the store credit and got a Redeemer to Endeavour CCU to sit unclicked in my hangar with the small change :)

Oh yeah there a ton of 'make your own fun' sandbox guys. Helps to pass the time when all the missions are broken or whatever ;)

Re Alec, you’ve made me think of this guy wanting to hike to a distant mountain, back when the forests were foresty…

But the game doesn’t always play nice ;)

All that stuff like hooning & circumnavigating planets are possible in theory though sure. (Depending on the game’s mood. Desync was messing with hooners for a while, causing unavoidable crashes etc, and vehicles do tend to explode from mystery collision damage on longer jaunts. Hover bikes on shorter jaunts too ;))

On object persistence, I don’t think it’s super extensive. Like the server will mothball ships after a while (people were storing dead bodies on their ships for a while, as that forestalled it…). And stuff happens like mother ships despawning when a launchable travels too far away.

But football goals should work, sure. Get a gravity gun, make your own fun ;)
You can have fun kicking a tin can about if you're with the right folks... but it's less fun if the tin can disappears, clips... or explodes

You can play solo like you do in open mode in ED, more what I meant. You can't avoid other players but you can play on your own doing your own thing... but with the ships being designed in the main for multicrew operation as well as the limited gameplay loops, SC is a bit more socially or group oriented than ED is for the main part.

If anyone wants to go on an adventure…

That guy is one of the earliest, and most lyrical/passionate, of the EDO ‘refugees' that I know of. (See his earlier adventures linked there). And good lord is he chipper in the face of adversity 😁

May his MSR, Forward Unto Debt, carry him well…
'Forward Unto Debt'...love it :ROFLMAO:

I guess what I'm really saying is this - the people who want ship interiors, what you REALLY want is ship interiors in addition to what you have in ED right now. An actual game.

If Fdev had created ship interiors we wouldn't have a game.

You can't always get what you want, not all of it, at once.
More like, if FDev knew the community wanted space legs and interiors that much, ED would have had legs and full interiors a while ago. Currently, anyone who has played in VR knows they have the cockpit interior in there already.

My point is, no it's certainly not. It requires time from 3D artists, but that can be assigned between projects (as FDEV have multiple projects going on). What prevented FDEV of doing so, was a pure design decision: their game engine is just not built that way because they decided against it.

I've said before, I think even DB was duped by CR, and FDev decided to go ships only, but have it released, because like everyone else back then, they believed SC would be up and running within a year or 2, as CR stated/promised. FDev is like "yeah, we released first!". Cut to years later "oh, we coulda done legs first then". A couple years later, we have Odyssey, but still in the old setup which means you cant get out or into a seat. Leads me to...

I feel kinda like that after having my inventory vanish for the third time in a row in 5 hours just by moving stuff into it. Spamming the character reset, waiting half an hour, creating another new character and refitting all the bits not only onto my avatar but also to the ships every couple of hours gets tiring very quickly. An entire afternoon of Star Citizen has resulted in nothing except a dress up Barbie game with added inventory management...haven't even made it to a ship yet :cautious:

Imagine having tried to get to your ship for the last 5 or 6 times you've tried to play SC, and haven't been able to because of the falling thru floors fun. Im sure I'd have a bit more hope for SC not to be just a scam, if I made it. A few years ago I was able, actually. Odd.

Faithful backer declares if they discovered management were giving themselves dividends they would never pledge another penny. Upon being shown management did indeed give themselves dividends tries to show its wrong. Poster leaves it there because afraid mods will whack him if he says more. Faithful does not respond after.

100% guaranteed the faithful will continue to give CIG money.

I believe there are bits of Elite that should be made multiplayer only. This whole ethos that all modes are equal is nonsense anyway. But I'm also a little wary of "You can't avoid other players"

Drew was going on about how the lifts were persistent. And when he was in the lift nobody else could use it. My mind immediately went to "Pool's Closed"

Something else which concerns me in Star Citizen is the time wasting. Considering that this is my biggest beef with Elite, I don't want to be jumping outta the frying pan into the fryer. You can spot the players in Star Citizen because they are the ones who are running. No wonder they are running. The views may be spectacular, but after you've seen them for the 1329th time they lose a little of their sparkle, and all you want to do is get to yer spaceship. How long does it take from the time of yer death to getting yer hands back on the yoke of yer spaceship?

And I have incredibly massive concerns about that "Pay to skip" countdown timer Drew encountered. Is that just for the free day players or is that in the game with the fully-paid-up players as well? The fact such a mechanism exists in the game at all is setting off my alarm bells
