Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I don't know if I'll ever get Star Citizen, but I'd certainly give them credit for the ship interiors. The bit that concerns me is the "sit on yer back side and wait to reach yer destination" transit system, and the massive long corridors

Are there other ground-based methods of transportation? Being able to drive a car thru the city would be nice
The cities are all shut off and are eye candy only...with the exception of New Babbage on Microtech in part. There are ground vehicles from golf carts to APC's but you need to spawn them at an outpost..or New Babbage where you can drive about on the ice outside the domes. Unfortunately, if you leave your ship long enough it'll despawn leaving you trapped planetside or in need of rescue.

One thing I really wish for in SC is to be able to dismiss and recall your ship from the planet surface like in ED, there's nothing worse than seeing your only way off the planet or moon vanish into the ether when you're 20 feet from getting back on board after a swan about on the surface in a vehicle or on foot. If you don't have any mates online to come pick you up...it means paying some random from global chat for a rescue mission... all the while hoping he or she won't just assassinate you, loot your corpse and leave you lying there in your skivvies :D

Doing a mate a favour by picking them up from a planet can also have unforeseen consequences...

My fridge on the Redeemer before rescuing a mate from certain death...

...And after the rescue when I parked it up and looked at my fridge... it was like I'd picked up my own personal plague of locusts 😐

Surely not fideliciously immersive enough. Too bad there was more work involved in persistence of a mug than in space chariots'

Nothing worse than people who leave without buying their round!

I'm becoming quite fond of the Redeemer.... nutcracker wing ugliness aside. Gunships aren't usually my thing but even flying it solo, it's very tanky and also very capable with a fair bit of pilot controlled firepower since the front remote turret is slaved to the pilot when solo giving two size 3 and two size 4 forward firing weapons (As well as a fair few missiles)...crewed up with both the size 5 ballistic multicannon turrets to add to the mayhem, it's an absolute beast. If you come up against a crewed up Redeemer in game...you'll probably be picking out a nice cardboard hospital gown to wake up in no matter what you're flying :)

Excuse the coughing...inhaled some coffee as well as forgetting to mute the mic :coffee:...

That’s one thing ED and SC players have in common, we all love OP ships :)

Watched it from start to finish, again it been absolutely delightful to see someone take so much joy from it, and he hasn't even got started yet, looking forward to more from Drew :)

Now I'm not going to call Chris Roberts greedy. He's a businessman and he's making decisions to maximise his profits. There's a good chance that he will look at the number of people using the "pay to skip" option and think to himself that maybe just a tiny wee increase in waiting time will persuade more folks to use that option
It's not real money. It's in-game credits. Not going to CRoberts account. Also the bigger the ship, the longer the wait. SC is pay2win to the bone, but this aspect is definitely not.

What undermines the whole thing is you can buy credits for real money from CIG and they plan to continue doing that in a post release world. It is literal pay to win, or in this case, pay to respawn quicker.
I should have expected that kind of answer - but no your p2w money is one-shot starting money only, and any sane person (or at least decently so) would rather invest that starting money into something more profitable (like cargo, ship parts like mining heads, etc.). Absolutely no one even the worst whales will pay real $$$ to accelerate a ship claim - for two reasons: first it's only for the case where your ship got destroyed (or lost), second said whales will have a lot of other ships to spawn immediately while the free claim runs its time. More reasonable people who only spent the minimal amount in a starter ship, will have very short claim times anyway.

Unless there somehow was a way to convert real money to in-game credits...
See my answer above. In that case it makes no sense. Again, spending real $$$ to wait a few minutes less, instead of just spawning a different ship (since if you can afford paying for credits, you definitely have multiple ships), is completely stupid. And i repeat, smaller ships have really short claim times.

There is...as everyone has already pointed out...but it really is a non starter since you can't use that purchased UEC in game until it launches...which by all indications is 'not any time soon™'. The store purchased UEC is tied to your account and only a one shot starting aUEC for the PU... like after a persistence database wipe.

But using it to circumvent a minor inconvenience like a respawn timer in the first place, especially if you have more than one ship? Never happening. As @Surefoot pointed out...there's far better uses for it. Ships cost credits not only to run but to upgrade, if you're spending credits on expediting ships, you can't buy faster QT drives or better shields or mining heads and consumables for the mining ships...

Buying UEC really isn't worth it, hasn't been for many years since they stopped store purchased UEC being converted into aUEC for instant use in the PU. The practise of paying $10- $25 for UEC died out years ago, it's still available but holds less intrinsic value than buying Arx for real cash in the FDev store. It's now so easy to earn credits in game starting off with nothing but a basic starter ship and 5k aUEC fuel money, there's absolutely no point :)

Not talking about your starting money. I'm talking about actual purchasable credits from the store, which CIG said they will still do in a post-release world.

I'll take your word for it

Yeah, best avoided. I got roped into playing one, which started out not too bad, but got worse so i quit. That was a couple of years ago. Then i tried another and was horrified by how far they took it. Its pretty blatant and outrageous. Ship timers are nothing like those, its just the fact that you can buy in game credits for real money that makes it smell a bit like it.
