Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Just watched Drew Wagar's last day of the SC Free-fly stream from start to finish. He has some really interesting takes on SC as an entity from a Sci-fi writer's viewpoint. Very different focus from the usual raft of SC streamers, casual or otherwise or the common or garden variety of ED refugees like Katie Byrne et al, but also his fairly uncluttered and fair appraisal which I give him credit for.

His stream was more narrative than gameplay oriented (since he never left New Babbage or even flew a ship)...Most of his take on things, I hadn't even thought about. Very interesting all in all looking from the perspective of a generally cynical backer like myself...apart from his childish fascination with pressing every visible button or panel just to see things move :D

Anything in particular. If its like his previous streams its probably at least an hour and a half and i'd like to play some ED tonight since i've been too busy most of the week to play anything. Got the beers in, so good to go.

Aye it was around that mark...as much as getting frustrated watching as he pressed buttons or talked to the stream whilst in elevators then forgot to move so the doors kept closing...I really enjoyed his perspective and fairly unique viewpoint...considering all I ever seem to see from SC streamers is either them acting like petulant children or doing pew related stuff, both of which I have very little interest in watching...

He mentioned a few things that had previously gone right over my head through either inattention, impatience or just plain looking past it, stuff that will stick with me as I'm playing from now on. I'll certainly follow along on his streams should he decide to continue next year :)

Ok, so more of a general tone thing with some specific points then? I guess those specific points are more useful for a player than me.

One thing i do like about Drew is his almost childlike excitement over playing games. He was the same with ED. Always smiling, always chuckling. I wished him well on his previous stream with his playing SC (with zero sarcasm or negativity, it was heartfelt).

Yup, for me it was listening to someone who writes about sci-fi for a living experiencing SC's gameworld with a genuinely uncluttered and uncomplicated viewpoint and cautious expectation. That made a difference. He's more optimistic than I am for sure...but as he said himself in the video, he hasn't been around SC for 9 years just waiting :)

Star Citizen currently has 3 million backers, which is actually fairly small for an MMO. Elite Dangerous, for example, has sold over 4 million copies. Popular MMOs like ESO have sold over 15 million, and mainstream titles like PUBG have sold upwards of 50 million. Star Citizen is nowhere near its potential market share. It really is still just a crowdfunded alpha. Once we start to get server meshing, full persistence, the quantum economy, more gameplay loops, and dozens of star systems, Star Citizen will be at the forefront of every gamer's mind as the go-to space MMO.

This is just the beginning, and CIG knows it. As long as they make real progress in the next few years, you can expect funding to double and triple.

Even if funding were to double or triple, it wouldn't bring SC any closer to completion. It might result in CR expanding the scope massively though.

My plans to play ED came to an abrupt end when i rage quit due to not being able to complete a covert heist mission. Panel to open the containment unit was blank. I'd just failed a covert theft due to my own stupidity and panic, so was extra careful on the next mission. For anyone aware, when on a covert mission you can't allow the settlement alarm to be raised, which means sneaking past people or killing them without the alarm being raised. Got all the way to the settlement alarm panel and disabled it without it going off. Got rank 3 security access. Had taken out all potential problem NPCs without issue. Everything was going right for once. And then i hit the brick wall.

Raised a ticket with FD because its lost credits, lost REP with the issuing faction, and lost progress towards unlocking the engineer Terra Velasquez.

So... what am i doing now? And how is this post related to SC?

Well, since i've quit ED for the night, now watching Doom Patrol Season 3, which happens to star Skye Roberts, perhaps the only member of the Roberts clan with any actual talent.

Cheers.

The answer is more beer, failing that use the the level 3 security to turn off the settlement alarms and authorisation scans.

But my go to would be more beer and maybe consider some chasers for luck.

No no, with heists you can't turn of authorization scans, otherwise you can't open the units (as i understand it). I did turn off the alarms and i did have level 3 security. The panel was blank like i had turned off authorization. But i ran back and toggled it, and it didn't help.

Anyway, drinking more beer is helping me forget it.

Do you ever actually watch any of these videos? Serious question because you have a lot to say about SC but all of it seems to come from the SCrefund Reddit or SC hate forums.
